Our sound of the day today is ‘ire’ and to help us remember this sound we say ‘fire, fire!’ This sound is a trigraph as it has three letters that make one sound.

Can you use your Fred talk to sound out these words? Don’t forget to use your Fred fingers to count the sounds:

Now you can read, hear and say the sound. let’s write the sound. Write it on your hand, on your paper or in the air. Remember there are 3 letters that make this sounds, don’t forget to underline the trigraph (special friends). Have a go at writing the words using your Fred talk and Fred fingers

Miss Safi spelt out the sound of the day using flour. Remember to ask your grown ups before you try this at home. If you have written the sound of the day using different materials and pens, we would love to see!

Challenge: Put the word into a sentence and use your new sound. I wrote some sentences at home. I remembered to use finger spaces and a full stop at the end of my sentences. Can you find the words with ‘ire.’

Speedy writing Can you write these words using the sounds that we have learnt previously? (An adult will need to say these words and children will independently sound them out and write them). Now check the spelling and tick or fix your work!

Food Snow Play Mouth

As I was writing food, I made a mistake. Can you spot it? So I corrected the spelling, and put a smiley face next to the word when I was done! If you make a spelling mistake, you can fix it.

Challenge: Can you spot the digraph special friends? (in bold- mouth has two, ou and th). Can you write a sentence and include one of the words? This is my sentence: I like to play in the snow!

Extra challenge: Can you find the ‘ire’ trigraph in your reading books or around in your home environment? How many can you find? Have a go at writing it down!
