Start Spreading the News: The Patriots feature two major leaguers making rehab appearances tonight: RHP Corey Kluber and INF Gio Urshela. Kluber, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, makes his second start in Bridgewater. In his last time out for the Patriots (8/12), Kluber lasted just 1.1 innings and allowed five runs on two hits with two hit by pitches and four walks. Urshela played for the Patriots on Sunday against the Altoona Curve. He went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Peraza Party: Shorstop Oswald Peraza returned to this week after spending the last week as a member of the New York Yankees taxi squad. Peraza went 11-for-28 (.393) with a home run, six RBI and a .433 on-base percentage. He has now hit safely in 11 of his 13 games in August, and is hitting .375 with a .426 OBP in the month. Battering Bastidas: INF Jesus Bastidas has reached base in seven of his 13 plate appearances since returning to the lineup Thursday night (four hits, three walks). Bastidas has now reached base safely in all 15 games he’s played at the Double-A level since his promotion on 7/18 and has hit safely in 12 of those 15 games. He currently owns a .306 batting average with a .443 OBP in Double-A, including a .348 average and a .484 OBP over seven games in August. Beltre Blasts: OF Michael Beltre enjoyed a strong week against the Altoona Curve. Beltre recorded two-hit games in five of his six contests in the series and hit .400 (10-for-25) with four stolen bases, seven runs scored and a .444 OBP. His batting average now stands at .272 entering this series; it’s highest mark since June 25th. Post Milone: Thomas Milone extended his on-base streak to a team-high 36 games with a base hit Sunday night. Milone’s streak dates back to May 11th and spans three tours in Somerset sandwhiched around two separate stops with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He has now reached base safely in 40 of the 41 games in which he’s played with Somerset. Belly-to-Belly: Mickey Gasper and Matt Pita hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning Saturday night. It marked the eighth-time this year the Patriots have hit back-to-back home runs. The home runs were the first at the Double-A level for both players, respectively. Arms Race: Somerset’s pitching staff owns the lowest BAA (.212) and most shutout wins (15) across all MiLB levels. Additionally, the team boasts the second-lowest ERA (3.38), third-lowest WHIP (1.17) and ranks fifth in strikeouts (1,038). Trouble with the Curve: The Somerset Patriots split a six-game series with the Altoona Curve at Peoples Natural Gas Field last week. Somerset took the first game before dropping the next three. Between Somerset’s losses on Thursday and Friday, the team had its lowest two-game run differential of the season: -13. The Patriots closed the series with two-straight wins.
