Come and spend the summer at our inquiry-focused Summer Zoo Camp! Campers enjoy special animal experiences and behind-the-scenes opportunities while facing scientific challenges that put the campers in the shoes of keepers, vets, or zoo administrators and motivate campers to seek the information to solve real-life problems. Campers leave Zoo Camp with a greater awareness for the individual animals at the zoo and how to help animals in the wild, all while building their science skills and making new friends. 2020 Camp Descriptions

Kinderfari- Ages 4-5 Half DAy Camp

Rock-a-bye Critters- Week 5, Week 10In this camp we are learning all about animal babies, how they grow, and how their parentscare for them. We will get to go behind the scenes to learn how zookeepers take care ofbabies here at the zoo as well as have fun playing pretend taking care of baby animals.

Feathers, Fur, Shells, and Scales- Week 3, Week 9There are so many different animals here at the zoo, in this camp we are going to learn allabout what makes groups of animals unique! We will get to meet some feathered, furred,shelled and scaled friends and explore through play.

Animal Tales- Week 2, Week 8Do you know how the rhino got its skin, the tiger got its stripes, or how the camel got its hump?We are going to listen to some tales about our animals and meet some of the characters ofthese stories up close!

Have to Have a Habitat- Week 6, Week 11What makes a home just right for an animal? This week we’ll learn about everything animalsneed to have a healthy habitat, we’ll go behind the scenes to learn about habitats at the zoo,and you’ll get to design a home for one of your stuffed pals!

Eco-Engineers- Week 7, Week 12Animals can teach us how to build solid nests that hold up in the wind, or cozy dens to keep uswarm and dry all year round. Come meet some amazing animals and create your own animal-inspired inventions.

Explorers- Ages 6-7

Jr. Zoo Vets- Week 2, Week 9How do you vaccinate a tiger? Or how do you give medicine to a giraffe? Our vets and keepersneed to consider a lot of different factors to keep our animals healthy, from the food they eatto the type of shelter they have, to the vitamins they receive. This week, we’ll help our keepersand vets problem-solve some animal health situations that may come up at the zoo.

Myths and Wonders- Week 1, Week 8Unicorns, pixies, and dragons may not be as mythical as you think, join us for a magicaladventure as we learn all about mythical creatures and meet some of their real lifecounterparts.

Where the Wild Things Live- Week 5, Week 11From the frozen tundra to the scorching desert, from volcanic deep sea vents to the topsof mountains animals live in so many different habitats. In this camp we will learn whatanimals need to survive in their habitat and and meet some animals who live in somepretty extreme places.

Wildlife Warriors- Week 6, Week 12Wildlife is so important and it is worth protecting. In this camp we will meet someendangered animals who need our help, and problem solve how we can use our voice to helpprotect wild animals and the places they call home.

Animal Rescuers- Week 2, Week 7You can make a difference! Join us as we learn all about what you can do to help animals inyour backyard and all across the world. We will be able to get up close to some animals thatHenry Vilas Zoo is working to protect, and use our creative skills to help save the animals!

Zoo Puzzlers- Week 3, Week 8Training animals with positive reinforcement requires a lot of problem-solving skills andcreative thinking. This week we’ll dive into some zoo-themed puzzles and problems, carry outinvestigations, and then you’ll design your own puzzle solutions and animal-inspired creationsto help out our zookeepers!

Let's Work Together!- Week 4, Week 10Many animals use teamwork to help each other survive. We can learn a lot from howanimals work together. In this camp we will get to observe some animal teamwork as wellas do some fun team building of our own. Do you have what it takes to collaborate?

Animal Behavior- Week 3, Week 11From instinct to action, behavior is everything an animal does. Animal behavior is one of ourmost popular camps! Ideal for anyone who loves animals and wants to know the inside storyabout what the animals are like at the zoo.

Wild Careers- Week 7Do you want to make an impact and help save wild animals and the places they call home?Well then, take a walk on the wild side and learn all about careers in the field of wildlife!Get to learn from experts and get some experience practicing what these wildlife heroes do!

STEM- Week 9Come and join us for a mix of everything exciting the zoo has to offer! STEM week willcover science, technology, engineering, and math while learning about the awesomeanimals at the zoo. Carry out your own inquiry projects to explore everything animals canteach us!

Jr. Zookeepers- Ages 11-13

Keeper Camp- Week 5, Week 12Have you ever wanted to become a zookeeper? Well now is your chance! In this camp we aredoing all things keeper, from caring for animal babies to getting down and dirty, this campwill teach you everything you need to know to be a top notch zookeeper.

Creature Connections- Week 1, Week 6Animals interact in so many different ways, and this camp we are going to learn all about it.How can a little bird help a giant rhino, and can a fungus really do mind control on an ant?Find out all of this and more as we meet animals, go behind the scenes and dive into themany connections between different animals.

You are the Scientist- Week 4, Week 10A lot of science happens at the zoo, from studying animal behavior to looking under amicroscope we are going to become scientists this week to help our animals here at the zooand in our own backyard. Join an international habitat mapping project by carefullyobserving the zoo animals and Wisconsin’s wild animals to learn how you can make the worlda better place.
