FAIRHAVEN PARKSTEWARDSHIPRecreation Northwest is stewarding the Fairhaven Park trail system. For years, we utilized these trails for the Bellingham Traverse. Now, we are giving back!

Our work has included removing invasive species, rerouting trails to improve access and restoring wetland habitat through native plantings. In the fall of 2017, we completed a three-year project to build a proper trail and wetland boardwalk connecting Fairhaven Park to the Chuckanut Community Forest. We are proud to be working to relocate unsanctioned trails through fragile wetlands in this special urban forest. The new trail & boardwalk connects the popular park and forest. The trail was built to city specifications allowing increased and enjoyable access for people as well as protecting this important habitat for wildlife and the ecology of the forest.

Volunteers NeededIn addition, we planted 280 native trees and shrubs in the former trail bed to assist the recovery of this unique forest wetland. Volunteers are needed to remove invasive species, plant new trees and shrubs and weed our new ‘gardens’.

Sponsor a Work Party for $1000Support the project, and bring your employees together to do good work. Work parties can be limited to your employees or open to the public. We will work with you to choose the best date.
