Professional Awards: List two you consider most significant: 1. Elected as FOPS - 2006 2. Statement of Candidacy: These are unprecedented times; for the world, our country and the OPS. But I believe difficult/challenging times bring out the best for those of us willing to seize these opportunities to meet and/or exceed these challenges. If elected as your Vice President I will work to accomplish the following:

1. Work with the current administration to increase membership by marketing the value of the OPS membership experience. Continue to nurture established collaborations with other ophthalmic organizations and explore opportunities for new collaborative ventures. Maintain the autonomy of the brand recognition of our Society and what we offer. Establish cohesive initiatives for marketing membership working with all three boards and the Central Office.

2. Work with the BOE continuing to design, plan, produce and implement the highest quality educational programs in the field. Investigate alternative options for the type and delivery of these educational opportunities to the ophthalmic community. Work closely with the Finance Committee and BOD to ensure all educational programs stay on budget. Work as a mutually beneficial conduit between the BOE/BOD ensuring good communication and strong working relationship.

3. Our certification programs continue to be a vital component of our society. Supporting these programs will be one of the key factors in our brand recognition and marketing efforts. These certification programs need to be one of our core mechanisms as we continue to provide them domestically and explore offering them internationally.

In summary, I would like to thank the Nominating Committee for the opportunity to run for the office of Vice President and all of you for your continued support over the years. I am looking forward to working with you all as we continue to grow as an organization.

genetics abroad Statement of Candidacy:

In the fight to preserve and restore vision, ophthalmic photography is a field of medical imaging that is paramount for the diagnosis and management of sight-threatening ocular disease. As the oldest society in the world dedicated to ophthalmic imaging, since 1969, the OPS has attracted an international consortium of imaging experts that sets forth clinical guidance and educational resources to ensure that the standards of practice are met through education, publication, and certified specialization in ophthalmic imaging. As your candidate for Director-At-Large, my cross-disciplinary skills in clinical practice and research domains are like the contrast dye injected intravenously to perform a fluorescein angiogram, providing a degree of luminance to make these structures visible.

I am approaching my third year with the OPS and have nearly six years in the field of ophthalmology. As a recent graduate of the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine Masters in Vision Science and Investigative Ophthalmology program, I am energized by the innovations within the field at this transitional period. My broad scope of experience, from community clinics to private practice, large healthcare centers, and academic research at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, allows me to draw from a framework of clinically effective workflows and best practices in ophthalmology. My recent publications include a co-authored protocol for the Cochrane Review in “Topical pharmacologic interventions versus placebo for epidemic keratoconjunctivitis,” and a brief interview in “The onboard formula for new techs,” as featured in Ophthalmic Professional, both published in January 2020. At the professional level, my mosaic of experiences as a surgical electrophysiology intern, assistant to the coroner, emergency room team member, and cumulative experiences in ophthalmology have shaped my vision for future directions in medicine. I recognize that my specialized training can have wide-reaching effects when applied in the right context. Internationally, I have served in humanitarian vision relief efforts as an operating room technician and helped coordinate medical missions for cataract surgeries in low-resource environments. I am experienced in organizational leadership, including:

- Leading an interdepartmental advisory committee for serum tear research involving Bascom Palmer, the Florida Lions Eye Bank and Miami Veteran’s Affairs in Miami, FL

- Serving as an External Affairs Commissioner for University Affairs and Community Relations at the University of California, Davis, and as an appointed student board member of the Department of Education that investigated analytic tools to predict undergraduate performance, where data metrics were utilized to enhance the quality of instruction at the university

I am an experienced and regularly invited exam writer for the National Center for Competency Testing, a credentialing organization for phlebotomy. My invited talks and poster presentations include the use of virtual reality modules for training clinician-scientists at the Al-Rashid Orbital Research Colloquium hosted by Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL (2019); the use of computer-vision to generate 3D models from gaming systems at a bioinformatics summer session at UC Davis (2018); and a neurobiology honors project on the visual & sensory perception of synesthesia at the Bay Honors Consortium for Undergraduate Research in UC Berkeley, CA (2010). In 2018, I co-founded a non-profit organization called Cyber Vision Labs whose mission is to use emerging technology for community education.

We mark the beginning of the decade with a global pandemic, one that calls for major changes in our standard practices, critically affecting our workflows, communication, and even infection control in our imaging departments. As we veer further towards precision medicine, telehealth is quickly becoming a new reality, in addition to technologies such as artificial intelligence, corneal angiography, meibography, ocular surface cancer imaging, and intraoperative OCT on the horizon. I predict that the OPS will play a pivotal role in ushering in these novel technologies as it has in the past, while promoting excellence in adjusting toward the specialized needs for quality education in society’s new normal.

The power of imaging can transform lives and inspire patients to take action and become proactive stakeholders in the management of their ocular conditions. Before the diagnosis is delivered, the ophthalmic photographer is one of the frontline healthcare professionals, to help patients in their ophthalmic journey.

Together, I look forward to our pursuit of advancing the gold standard for biomedical ocular imaging, diagnostics, and collaboration. If elected, I will work on expanding our strategic network of industry, academic, and research partnerships to ensure that the legacy and exemplary work by previous OPS leadership are continued, and that our organizational viability and reach are expanded. With sincere appreciation and gratitude for your engagement, thank you for inviting me to become a part of the OPS team.

Statement of Candidacy: OPS Board of Directors Election

My name is Kathleen Warren and I would like to be considered for the Director At-Large position with the Ophthalmic Photographer’s Society 2020 Elections. With a background in photography, I have always considered my creative vision to be a huge part of who I am as a person. When I was first introduced to the field of Ophthalmology, I was fascinated by the idea that I could potentially help others with their own vision, literally. I always thought of our eyes as our own camera lenses to the world and I have found being a part of helping people maintain their sight, helping keep their world visible, is something I have passionately accepted as my calling.

My career began in Boston, where I learned, trained, and grew under the guidance of two top-rated teaching hospitals - New England Eye Center at Tufts Medical and Massachusetts Eye& Ear/Massachusetts General under Harvard. I offer a little over seven years of field experience in different clinical settings - retina, glaucoma, cornea, IRD, surgical center, OR, and NICU -and stay up-to-date with various cameras and testing equipment. I am knowledgeable of the clinical trial process, having secured previous certifications with various reading centers. I have been responsible for training new hires and Co-Op students on clinic operations, testing and patient care, and pride fully built and maintained strong, professional relationships with doctors, technicians, research coordinators, and staff. I also have kept working relationships with equipment vendors including those from Zeiss, Heidelberg, Topcon, Optos, and Optovue. It is here that we can technically and constructively assist one another, diagnostically performing tests for the most important relationship of all - our patients.

I have been an active member with OPS since 2014, attending four AAO conferences. I was the2016 recipient of the Johnny Justice Jr. Scholarship with OPS, and I am the current editor (one of) for the OPS FB page. In October 2019, I migrated south to the Research Triangle, accepting a position with Duke Eye Center, where I continue to grow and diligently work on obtaining imaging certifications. It is safe to say I truly embrace what I can do for our patients on a daily basis and I hope to keep progressively succeeding in the field I know and love. Please consider my candidacy for BOD, as I believe I would make a great team member to an established, reputable organization.

My current position is at a practice of seven retina physicians where I serve as the lead for a group of 5 photographers. I also have been working on creating educational courses and curriculum for the clinical staff in office, as these types of educational opportunities are limited for technicians who are new to ophthalmology. I am very passionate about helping our staff gain a deeper insight into their work on a daily basis.

In addition to my time spent on the job, I also serve as administrator for the Central New York Vision Forum for the past 3 years. We organize a yearly event of over 190 local ophthalmic medical professionals, doctors and technicians alike. I play a key role in this event from logistical issues to content creation and this work has been extremely rewarding and has helped me further my passion for education.

If elected to the OPS, I pledge to bring my knowledge base, passion and my years of experience to the board. Furthermore, to all of its members, I pledge my enthusiasm and dedication to the process of learning and education.

Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society 2020 General Election

Paul Montague Honorary Life Membership

Honorary Life Membership in the Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society is awarded to select individuals who, through long term dedication and service, have made significant and lasting contributions to the Society and the field of diagnostic imaging. This year, the Board of Directors is proud to submit the name of Chris Barry to the membership for this honor. Chris is renowned in our profession as an outstanding imager based on his extraordinary talent, his tremendous knowledge of imaging, and his dedication to the Society as evidenced by his significant contributions despite the thousands of miles between his home and our Society’s base. He has the distinction of serving the longest tenure as Editor of our esteemed professional journal, and has done so with great expertise, determination and style. The Journal of Ophthalmic Photography is held in high regard in the ophthalmic publications.

And as Editor of the Journal of Ophthalmic Photography, Chris has been especially dedicated to seeking out and mentoring OPS members as contributing authors. He has done this by canvassing many courses to look for speakers with unique skills or knowledge, by following up on suggestions and leads from other members, and by reviewing other publications for likely authors. This has not only served the JOP well, but has truly been inspirational for many of our newer Society members as they learn to participate in the workings of the OPS. His mentoring has always been respectful, encouraging, and patient.

The Paul Montague Honorary Lifetime Membership Committee representing the Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of the Ophthalmic Photographers’ Society support Chris’ election as an Honorary Life Member of our Society.
