Welcome Remarks
Dear GEMS CIK Family, I hope you had a lovely week! As you may have noticed, this past week I was away on official dutyattending the Tes Recruitment Fair in London. Teachers form an integral part of the teaching -learning process and as such, we always take care to select the very best. It is our goal to makeeach and every student succeed and we’ll do all it takes as a school to achieve this. The next few weeks will be busy and important. We have the COBIS accreditation exercise and Cambridge Assessment Training for teachers coming up in February. All these measures and moreare in place to improve the overall quality of provision and ensure our children get the bestpossible opportunities to become confident, thoughtful young people, who are prepared for anyfuture challenges, in an increasingly global world. Please read on for important announcements for the past week and weeks ahead. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any issues of concern. I look forward to a great rest of the year.

On Wednesday, our Year 7, 8 and 9 students gave presentations on the completion of their GlobalPerspectives Extended Projects. It was a fantastic market place of knowledge with all studentspresenting their projects incredibly well, with confidence, skill and flair. All teachers, Year 10 and12 students listening, questioning and assessing the excellent projects reported how impressedthey were with the level of maturity that our Year 7, 8 and 9 students demonstrated on Wednesday afternoon. Topics ranged from gang violence in London, to the origins of the first Gulf War, to theimpact of the Western diet on Japan. It truly was an impressive array of projects. Back in October, students identified what their projects would be, based on a range of topics from the GlobalPerspectives course. With guidance from their teachers, they researched independently on thematerial and data needed to compile a structured report and to give their presentations. Along theway, they recorded their progress and plans for completing their work and will next week reflect ontheir learning throughout this project-based learning unit.
