2020 CENSUS The Village News VILLAGE OF AIRPORT DRIVE April 1, 2020 is Census Day! Between March 12 and March 20, 2020 everyone will receive an invitation in the mail to respond to the 2020 Cen- sus online. Some households will also receive paper questionnaires. Every household will have the option of responding online, by mail or by phone. Nearly every household (95%) will receive their census invitation in the mail. The remaining households will receive their census invitation when a census taker drops it off. In these cases, the households may not receive mail at their home’s physical location, like households that use Post Office Boxes to receive their mail or are in areas recently affect- ed by natural disasters. The census asks questions that provide a snapshot of the nation. When you fill out the census - * You help determine how many seats our state gets in Congress. * You guide how more than $675 billion in federal funding is distributed to states and communities each year. * It creates jobs, provides housing, prepares for emergencies, and builds schools, roads and hospitals. The questions are simple: Population Count - The number of people living or staying at each address. Any Additional People Living or Staying - The census asks this question to ensure that everyone living at an address is counted. Owner or Renter - The census asks this question to create statistics about homeownership and renters. Homeownership rates serve as an indicator of the nation’s economy and help in administering housing programs and informing planning decisions. Phone Number - In case the census needs to contact you. They will never share your number and will only contact you if needed for official Census Bureau business. Name - The census asks for names to ensure everyone in the house is counted. Listing the name of each person in the household helps respondents include all members, particularly in large households where a respondent may forget who was counted and who was not. Airport Drive has been asked to form a Complete Count Committee. The committee will work to promote awareness and importance of the census, keep residents informed about census operations being conduct- ed in their neighborhoods and communities, and make residents aware of census job opportunities and encourage them to apply. We are looking for volunteers! Please contact the office if you would like to participate in this committee. The census only happens every ten years. Let’s make sure everyone gets counted! All meetings for Airport Drive held at the munic-ipal building are open to the public unless posted as Closed Session. Want to know what’s going on in the Village? Come to the meetings! The Village Office is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, unless posted closed. When visiting the office, park in the lot south of the building and use the south door. The Mense CPA Firm, LLC has completed a Financial Statement for the first six months of 2019. See page 6. If you have a project that will require digging, Missouri One Call has supplied us with white marker flags for property own-ers to mark proposed excavation areas prior to calling for utility locates. The flags are available free of charge at the Village Office. Before hiring a contractor to work on your property, make sure they are licensed to work in Airport Drive. Contractors must submit proof of general liability and workman’s comp insurance prior to receiving a Contractor’s License to work in Airport Drive.

If you would like to receive your sewer bill by email, please contact the Village Office at 623-6744 or send an email to [email protected]. The Clerks have new computers! The two old desk-top PCs are available for $25.00 each. They are Lenovo's, purchased in March 2014. First come, first serve. Before you burn limbs, brush or yard waste, call the Carl Junction Fire District at 417-649-6062. There is no permit required, but always check with them to insure conditions are right for burning. Daylight Savings Time ends on November 3rd at 2:00 a.m. Don’t forget to set clocks back one hour. The Budget Committee will be meeting soon to set a proposed Budget for 2020. This meeting will be posted as soon as a date is set. If you have questions regarding code requirements, please call the Office at 417-623-6744, or you can view the Code on-line through the link on our web-site www.airportdrivemo.com or at General Code’s website www.ecode360.com/AI3224.

Hello Friends,

Well it’s here finally, "Fall”. What that means is beautiful changing leaves and pumpkins...and deer season is here. Please be careful driving to and from work or whatever your destination may be. Taking a little more time could prevent an accident.

Make sure you have a first aid kit for your vehi-cle. Water, blankets, snacks, flash lights are good to have in a case you get stranded.

Please make sure your pets have what they need for winter, especially if they live outside. A dog house with blankets or straw will help keep them warm. Food and water is also a necessity for them as well. Don’t hesitate to call if you see an animal that needs assistance.

It’s also important to keep an eye on your neighbors. If you have any concerns or haven’t seen them recently give us a call. We will be happy to check on them.

There hasn’t been a lot of crime in our area lately, mainly shoplifting from Harp’s Food Store and the Walmart Neighborhood Market. Ozark Nursery reported a few thefts, statues and orna-ments were taken. Please don’t hesitate to con-tact me if you see something that doesn’t look right, that includes vehicles and people.

In other news, in case you didn’t know, Deputy Justin Henry, our night patrolman, was shot in

the leg a few weeks ago. He is doing well and hopes to return to his regular duties as soon as possible. Please keep him in your prayers. Deputy Ben Carrier is filling in for Deputy Henry until he returns. Feel free to wave him down for anything if you see him.

The holidays will be approaching soon. Holi-days bring out thieves more than usual. They watch for patterns of people leaving and coming home, mail delivery times, and unlocked vehicles with visible items. Tear down boxes for new elec-tronic or high dollar items. Please be aware of suspicious vehicles and people in your area. No call to us is minor or a bother. We would rather you call us and it be nothing than for you to not call and it ends badly. We are here for you. For the fastest response, call 417-359-9100 or 911.

I enjoy working in this area and every resident and business owner is important to me. Feel free to come in to my office or put in a call if you have any concerns.

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season!
