Here are some of the areas where assistance is available for qualifying clients: Food; Utilities; Rent; Mortgage; Home repair; Vehicle repair; PPE (personal protective equipment); Cleaning supplies as well as Financial planning and Edu-cation assistance. While many of these programs take some time and planning to pull together oth-ers can sometimes roll in unexpectedly! A large contribution, (and by large I mean several semi-trucks large!), became available and as you know, fresh foods can expire fast. Mr. Brandon Harley, Deputy CEO and Ms. Angie Ditch, CSBG Man-ager and many others were able to get the food distributed in several area counties in record time!

So if you haven’t heard about them yet ask your supervisor about Team Kentucky and other

new CARES Act available assistance. Audubon In Action

As many of you may be aware the Governor created Team Kentucky to provide help to

Kentuckians experiencing an employment re-lated financial hardship as a result of the CO-VID19 pandemic. The fund is overseen by the Public Protection Cabinet and is administered through a partnership with Kentucky Commu-nity Action agencies and that is AACS! Funds are issues through a voucher system and can be used to pay for qualifying expenses includ-ing rent, mortgage, food/groceries and utility costs and eligible applicants may receive up to $1,000 per household. The Team Kentucky fund was raised through the generosity of businesses and individual donations and all donations to the Team Kentucky are tax-deductible. Local AACS contacts for questions and application assistance are listed at the end of this article.

The federal government’s approval of the CARES Act has allowed multiple ad-

ditional assistance avenues for our clients. Our programs are working together more than ever as we strive to meet every cli-ent need utilizing cross-program referrals.

AACS Success Stories


Since March, Audubon Area Head Start - Area 10 has worked with the Union County Public Schools

feeding the kids in our program while schools are closed. As you can imagine, a lot of planning and effort goes into scheduling this daily task. Every morning, lunches are picked up and within a couple of hours, two groups distribute more than 250 lunches per day. Although you cannot tell through the masks, they did it all with smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts despite all of the challenges!

Morgan Duncan says, “We have come to know so many amazing families who greet us with a smile and share laughs with us every day. We love knowing

that we make a difference and that we are making sure families are getting lunch and breakfast. NONE of this would have been possible without Union County Public Schools Food Service staff!” The group interacts with families in their day-to-day, but all agree through this experience a greater bond has formed.

Lisa Hedgepath, Local Area Manager, expressed how proud she is of how her team has stepped up—this group and her entire team. She says, “They have

proven what they do day in and day out with our kiddos and our families is much more than just a job to them. They care about the difference and the impact they have on the lives of others. The creativity I have seen during this trying time has made me very proud of my team and what they are capable of-- from feeding the kids every day to Facebook live interactions/activities, to assisting parents in creating milestone opportunities…. They have brought

their A-games!”

Angel McDonald, long time Head Start employee, retired on July 1st, 2020 after 33 years of dedicated service to Audubon Area Community Services, Inc. Ms. Angel says her son lives in Sweden and she hopes to spend more time with her grandson. She says she is due some FUN! She enjoys walking, gardening, and shopping with her girlfriends! She says after relaxing a while eventually she would love to find a volunteer project. She says there is

always plenty for her to do.Audubon Area Community Services would like to thank Ms. Angel for all of the hard work and accomplishments during her time with us! We wish her a happy retirement and all the best in her

future endeavors.

In Kentucky, healthcare is for everyone! Navigators, formerly known as “kynectors”, with Audubon Area Community Services are here to help with the application process.
