Begin data collection – immediately after home study is completed (with Supervisor approval)

50% of your assignment complete – March 26

75% of your assignment complete – April 9

Data collection ends – April 19

All ARMS III questionnaires must be in UPS to NPC (good completes), or submitted on the iPad (out-of-business & non-responses) by April 20.

Survey Procedures & Due Dates• Supervisors will review at least one completed

questionnaire from each enumerator.

• Supervisors will decide if/when an enumerator starts sending work directly to NPC.

• Each supervisor will conduct at least one quality control contact, either as a follow-up call, or shadowing an interview.

• The office will be contacting supervisors regularly throughout the survey to get a status report.

Entering Data

• Make sure to use the “none” box.

– Dashes should NOT be used!

– Keyers will key from an image of the cell.• They won’t key from the actual form!

• Zeroes are okay, and will be keyed.– Not needed if you check the “none” box, but needed to complete the table

data row.

EXAMPLE:

Operator has a turkey contract, cell 0269 in Section C (line 2h) will be positive, but cell 0298 should be zero “0”.

Entering Data

• Watch for type of answer required

– Pay close attention to the type of answer based on the question being asked.

• Answers could be:– Number of items (dollars, animals, tractors, etc)

– Percentage (percent for farm use, etc)

– Commodity Code (from the questionnaire or the respondent booklet)

– Value Codes (from the value code table)

» Remember! The value code for “none” is “01”

– Written in black lead pencil

Form Management

• Good reports with data (not out-of-business). There may be some missing items.

– Send via UPS directly to NPC by the Supervisor, or by the Enumerator if given permission by the Supervisor.

• All other reports (out-of-business, refusals, inaccessibles).

– Submit on the iPad with detailed notes.

Form Management

• Good reports with data (not out-of-business) will be sent directly to NPC.

– Please do not send extraneous pieces of paper, respondent booklets, post-it notes, etc.

– Important notes and name/address updates should be written directly on the questionnaire, if possible. If you made a name or address update, please put a ‘1’ in cell 0009 (front page).

– Don’t write in the outer margins of the questionnaire. All notes should be written within the black boundary.

– If an additional sheet of paper needs to be sent with the questionnaire (to clarify data or explain an unusual circumstance), please make sure the new piece of paper with your comments has the state-id written on it.
