Presidents Message 2019 / 2020 Once again a new season is upon us and I wish you all a warm welcome. During the winter months, we have been busy on maintenance of the club house, and Glen busy preparing the greens. More sunshades are in the offering and new carpet in men’s match room. We had a very successful season again and we are proud of your achievements. The club has put our name forward to host the Disabled Players Tournament and of course we are available to assist with the National Singles and Pairs. We will once again host the Under 26’s and the Bayleys Stuart Buttar Pairs which are two highlights the club looks forward to. One must mention the dedication of our volunteers. INFORMATION FOR NEW MEMBERS 1. Coaching

Individual coaching is available on request, at no charge, by contacting one of Burnside’s coaches for the 2019-2020 season: Cushla McGilivray, Pat Bonham, Graeme Rees, Pam Clark, Cameron Wood, Tayla Bruce, Barry Woodgate, Chris Iggo, Gill Abel and Vincent Chia (contact phone numbers are listed at the back of the programme booklet). Silicon Coach video analysis software, allowing a player’s delivery to be captured on video and analysed, is also available. Group coaching sessions will be offered and publicised as they are arranged.

2. Green Fee Players Greens will be available (unless required for Club or Centre fixtures) to Social Members and Visitors for Casual Roll-ups for $5.00pp Green Fee. This does not include Club Days or organised rollups. Money to be put in envelope provided and placed in Club Letterbox next to Office door. This is an opportunity for members to bring along family and friends to enjoy our facilities both on the green and in the Upstairs Lounge. Jacks are kept in the foyer and the mats in the outside room between the Laing and Davie Greens. Sets of Club bowls and shoes are available. These are for use of prospective new bowlers or anyone coming in to the Club for roll-ups. All mats, jacks and Club bowls must be returned at completion of game.

3. Subscriptions

Due from 1st August and should be paid before the start of the season. Early payment of subscriptions would be appreciated. N.B. Members are reminded that the Executive has determined under Section 15.2 of the Club Constitution that members are not eligible to play in any Club or Centre events after 1st November in any year, if the annual subscription or any other moneys owing to the Club remain unpaid.

4. Centre Inter-Club Events To assist the selectors with entering teams, a circular is sent out for members to indicate which events and on which days they are available for selection. N.B. A Club Policy Statement on selection of teams for Centre events is displayed on the notice board in the Match Room. Teams selected will be placed on the notice board and on the Club web site during the week before the date of playing. Please indicate that you have noted your selection by ticking your name early. If for any reason you subsequently find that you are unable to play on the date notify the selector IMMEDIATELY.

Local Inter-Club and Club Only Events Availability to play charts are placed in the Men’s & Women’s Match Rooms with a closing date clearly indicated. For further information on Club events and competitions and general items of interest, members should check all notice boards frequently. Entries for club events marked can be made as above or by visiting the Tournaments tab on our web site and clicking on the appropriate event.

6.

Under 5’s Competitions are programmed for first and second year players and Under 5’s. All Club competitions are controlled by the Match Committee. Centre and Inter-Club teams are arranged by the Selectors.

7.

Bowling Attire (a) For Participants in all Centre and National Fixtures – Whites or approved Club colours. Team members must wear either all whites or all approved Club colours. Skips should remind team members of the correct attire. (For Watson For Watson Shield and Mixed Tens Competitions refer to Centre Handbook. If ladies may wear black trousers the entire team must conform. (b) For Club Open Tournaments – All Day – Whites or approved Club colours. Half Day – Sports trousers or shorts with white, cream or club shirt and jersey. (c) For Saturday Play – Whites or approved Club colours for all Centre matches and Club Championships. For all other Club events e.g. Festival Bowls, organized ups etc the general dress code is mufti. The dress code for each event will be noted on the entry on sheets. (d) For All Other Occasions Sunday to Friday – e.g. competition matches, midweek Club days, evening games and casual play generally – neat standard of dress with only specific requirement being correct footwear i.e. shoes/sandals white or tan, heel-less with smooth soles of rubber or other pliable material. (Whites may be worn if preferred). At the discretion of the Executive, when the occasion warrants it, “whites” may be required for any day of the week for all players. This will normally be noted on the Club programme, but if not then as much notice as possible will be given. N.B. The above change is decided from time to time by the Executive.

8. The Notice Board On the exterior wall as you enter the grounds is for the allocation of rinks for Match Play. When you have arranged a game, enter the details on this board. On the day of Play, the Green Keeper will allocate your rink alongside your entry. PLAY ONLY ON THE RINK NOMINATED. Further, when coming for a roll-up always check which rinks have been allocated for match play, and if possible allow a free rink between you and any match.

9. The Green Superintendent and Green Keeper Have complete control over green usage and will allocate the rinks to be played on. All players must play on the greens and rinks allocated.

Club Day Bowls Monday thru Friday Format to be decided on the day N.B. (a) Greens may not always be available because of tournament requiring 3 greens. (b) Enter on the charts in the match rooms to indicate your availability. Entries for Festival Bowls, Club Trophy events and Saturday Organized roll ups to be in by 4.00 pm on the Thursday prior.

A weekly (Hotline) newsletter is sent via email every Thursday with club news updates. Use our home page to click through to our sponsors’ web sites.

15. Role of the Duty Team Each interclub day the greens being used must be set up for play. The greenkeeper allocates rinks and these are set out on the board by the dining room door. Duty team members are asked to arrive early and work from the board.

16. Role of the Team Manager If you are appointed Team Manager to an Interclub Team your responsibilities are: 1. If the team is playing away enter a time on the selection sheet to meet in the car park

prior to the game starting allowing enough time to travel to the visiting club. 2. On Thursday or Friday ensure all names have been ticked by the selected team

members. 3. If names have not been ticked call the club member concerned to see if he/she

is available. 4. If the player is not available contact the selectors and advise them of the non

availability of the player. 5. Ensure all team members turn up on the day. 6. Return all cards : Women to the clipboard in the women’s match room

Men to the ‘pool table’ in the lounge. To be collected by the recorders 12.30 pm on match day.

Finally, enjoy yourself and good bowling

1. Put out the mats and jacks for each rink 2. Put one of the “kitty in the ditch” markers i.e. the golf balls, behind the rink number

at both ends. The golf balls are in buckets in the umpires’ room. 3. Clean all the boards, set numbers to zero, and check that there is chalk available. 4. Chalk pieces are in a container in the cupboard in the men’s match room. 5. Check that the tea urns are positioned, full of water and switched on for tea on the

run. Check biscuits and milk are available. 6. At the end of play ensure all mats, jacks and golf balls are put away. 7. Return all cards : Women to the clipboard in the Women’s match room Men to the ‘pool table’ in the lounge To be collected by the recorders 12.30 pm on match day.
