For over a century, Tamarack Camps has stayed true to its mission: to build a vibrant community by providing enriching Jewish camping experiences for children and families, respectful of financial ability.

Tamarack Camps serves over 1,200 Detroit-area Jewish children and 90 Israelis from our Partnership region every summer through its residential camp programs at Camp Maas, Agree Outpost Camp, Camp Kennedy and on five Teen Travel Trips out west and to Alaska. In addition, Tamarack Camps partners with local congregations and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit in the community’s biennial Sue & Alan Kaufman & Family Teen Mission to Israel. This year, Tamarack Camps will run its second Joy and Allan Nachman Teen Leadership Trip to Israel for rising seniors.

Tamarack Camps also runs year-round family camps and congregational programs. In addition, Tamarack Adventure and Retreat Center provides excellent outdoor education programming for school, community and corporate groups; together these initiatives serve more than 10,000 participants.

Approximately one-third of Tamarack Camps’ summer population is unaffiliated, making a camp experience their only connection to the Jewish community. Research shows that the informal Jewish education that takes place at Jewish summer camps strengthens Jewish identity and builds future leaders.

Last year, Tamarack Camps allocated nearly $900,000 in scholarships, thanks to the generosity of our wonderful supporters.

As one of the country’s largest and most respected nonprofit summer camps, Tamarack Camps has a far-reaching presence and brand awareness. Every spring, we hold a signature fundraising event, “Send a Kid to Tamarack” (SK2T), to raise dollars and awareness, and to support the Annual Campaign. This event raises about one-third of the funds needed for camper scholarships. The evening features a keynote speaker, entertainment and a dessert reception, attracting over 400 patrons and community members.

Tamarack Camps holds two additional annual events at our residential campus, Camp Maas in Ortonville: Family Fun Day in June and Fall Fest in September. Both events are open to the community and attract hundreds of attendees.
