    Marshfield Area United Way

Almost invisible…The care giver who day in and day out gives all their attention to their loved one with no respite. The addict who’s homeless, but wants to get clean. The family that doesn’t have enough food to get through the week. A struggling student with nowhere to go after school.

In our day-to-day hustle and bustle, it’s easy for most of us to overlook the need that hides just below the surface. It’s easy because most of us, God willing, won’t ever have to worry about the insecurity that comes with any of these situations. But life isn’t always predictable.

When we think seriously about the scenarios above we realize that many of our friends, family and neighbors are just one emergency away from a bad situation. Unexpected events such as divorce, medical diagnosis, addiction, fire, and death can leave people in desperate need. United Way is there to help families get back on their feet and we can all be a part of that hope and healing!

We are so honored to be asked to be the United Way drive chairs for 2018-2019 and are excited to serve the Marshfield community in bringing awareness to the significant need in our community. We have been United Way supporters for many years but as chairs we have learned more about all the programs that United Way supports, and have been greatly moved by not only the needs of our community, but by the extensive support that United Way is able to provide to our friends, family and co-workers.

It can be overwhelming as an individual to try to help, but through the United Way we can all do more together. Together we can fund programs like the NOW program and Soup or Socks to make sure families have enough food on the table. Together we can make sure that care givers can take a break when caring for their loved ones with Alzheimer’s through the Marshfield Area Respite Care program. Together we can help the addicted seek healing and start a new life through Mary’s Place. All these programs do so much to make our community a healthier place and United Way is crucial to making sure these programs can fulfill their missions.

As drive chairs we want to help each of these programs answer their calling and we have goals…. BIG GOALS. There are still barriers to helping people get a hand up to a better life. We want to challenge each of you to think about these programs and those you will help with your donation pledge to Marshfield Area United Way this year. Together we can be a part of all the great things United Way does in Marshfield. Please be generous.

    Live United,

    The Anderson’s

UW-Stevens Point's economic impact tops $670 million annuallyThe University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's economic impact on the region and state is vast and growing.

With the addition of branch campuses in Marshfield and Wausau, UW-Stevens Point contributes $671.3 million annually to Wisconsin's econ-omy, according to a study by NorthStar Analytics, Sturgeon Bay. The firm updated a 2015 comprehensive economic impact study including all three UW-Stevens Point locations for the first time.

The economic impact of the Stevens Point campus grew from $420.2 million to $584 million in those four years. The impact the Marshfield and Wausau campuses are $35.9 million and $50.7 million, respectively.

Every $1 of state tax investments in UW-Stevens Point generates $18.28 in economic activity in the state. This also increased since 2015, when $1 of state tax investment generated $11 in economic activity by the university's main campus in Stevens Point. Every $1 in state tax investment at the Wausau campus generated $42, and at Marshfield $21 in economic impact.

With the addition of the Marshfield and Wausau campuses, UW-Stevens Point generates $40.9 million in state and local tax revenue annually, up from $21.2 million in 2015. This shows the university is a major revenue contributor to local and state government.

Private businesses benefit the most, as 92% of economic impact generated by UW-Stevens Point activities goes directly to private business. Local governments and nonprofit organizations also benefit.

The $40.9 million in state and local tax revenue is based on state income, sales and property taxes paid directly by fac-ulty and staff, sales taxes generated by student and visitor spending, and subsequent tax revenue generated by those in jobs created by UW-Stevens Point spending.

Each graduating class generates an economic impact of more than $40 million.

MACCI Gift Certificates Helpful HintsThe following helpful tips are meant to maximize the shopping experience with MACCI gift certificates and the support of our local economy. Gift certificate transactions are meant to be completed in full, without the expecta-tion of giving cash back. Thereby, our community-wide gift certificate program increases the economic impact to the Marshfield area. Every dollar spent locally has a multiplier effect up to 7 times, thus strengthening our busi-nesses and organizations and growing local jobs.

MACCI gift certificates make great gifts because certificates are:

    Available in any dollar amount.

Tip – We recommend the purchase of larger dollar amounts be broken down into smaller increments, which are easier to spend.

    Convenient gift idea.

Tip – Certificates are easily obtained from the MACCI office. For larger orders we recommend you place your order at least 24 hours in advance.

Certificates can be redeemed at any Marshfield area business.

Tip – We recommend purchases be made in full without the expectation of cash back. This is easier for the retailer and improves the shopping experience.

Valid for one year as of date of purchase.

Tip – Should the certificate not be spent and expires, we recommend the certificate be brought back to the MACCI office where a new certificate can be reissued. We recommend the reissued certificate be spent within the week.

Please continue to consider MACCI gift certificates for your gift giving occasions and continue to support and grow the Marshfield area economy.

MACCI was pleased to participate in three ribbon cutting ceremonies and one ground-breaking this past month. Look at our community continue to prosper and grow!

Ribbons were cut at new businesses to Marshfield; First Impressions S.C. and Jacob's Ladder cbd boutique. Gateways Counseling Services LLC grew their business to a new location, and Swiderski LLC broke ground for a new housing unit on Marshfield's northside. Congratulations, to all!

First Impressions, located at 103 West McMillan Street in Marshfield, is the largest privately-owned group of pediatric dentists in Wisconsin. Their mission is to provide comprehensive oral health care for infants, children, adolescents and patients with special needs delivered in a state-of-the-art, child-friendly envi-ronment. Their first office opened in Wausau in 1995. Since then, they’ve opened offices in Rhinelander, Stevens Point, Medford, Shawano, Weston, Appleton, Green Bay, and now… Marshfield. They want to ensure that children of all ages enjoy a lifetime of healthy habits along with a healthy smile. In 2018 they were named “Best Pediatric Dentistry Practice – Midwest USA” by Global Health & Pharma magazine.

Gateways Counseling and Day Treatment Center, located at 1905 South Central Avenue, was formed in 2017 by Michelle Messick. It started as a substance abuse counseling agency in three small suites in downtown Marshfield after a community leader brought the urgent need for service providers to Michelle. A substantial need in Central Wis-consin for more intensive substance abuse services, as well as the need for expanded services to specialize in youth and adolescent substance abuse services was clearly recognized. In addition, the significant wait time for behavioral health services within the current providers Marshfield area offered was recognized.

The search for larger space and additional providers began immediately, being what is considered rural Wiscon-sin this was not an easy task. In late 2018 Gateways Counseling moved to 1905 S Central Avenue in Marshfield and on January 1, 2019 opened in their expanded 3000 square foot building. In the new building Gateways add-ed licenses and many new treatment programs including behavioral health, group therapy, custody re-unification

counseling, play therapy, marriage and family counseling, cognitive and life skills therapy, telehealth, neuro-psy-chology, psychiatry, narcotic treatment program, medica-tion management and in February Gateways substance abuse day treatment center officially opened.

Gateways staff work differing schedules offering appoint-ments days, evenings and Saturdays, and all appoint-ments can generally be scheduled within one week of client request. Gateways is an in network provider with over 1,000 insurance plans and accepts both Medicaid and Medicare. Gateways is excited to announce start-ing in mid-June, psychiatric services will be available on evenings and weekends as well with two new doctors moving to our area.
