Greater Cincinnati

When she was 20 weeks pregnant, Tanisha and Quentin learned that their baby had a rare diagnosis called Lower Urinary Tract Obstruction. LUTO happens in 1 of 5,000–7,000 pregnancies. It’s a life-threatening condition that affects the baby’s kidneys, bladder, and lungs.

After receiving news that their baby had a very low chance of survival, they wanted to give their baby the best chance. That meant coming to Cincinnati.

They left home in Arkansas and found hope in their stay at Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald House for the remainder of her pregnancy. Tanisha shared:

“The House blessed us with a hotel voucher since we waited months for a long-term room to become available. Right before Christmas, we moved into the House. The House gave hope to our family by providing food, shelter, fun activities and baby gifts.”

Baby Jaleel was born in January 2018 and required respiratory intervention immediately after his birth. He spent 81 days in Cincinnati Children’s NICU. He needed eight surgeries, three blood transfusions, and one dialysis treatment.

Jaleel is now an active two-year-old battling stage 5 chronic kidney disease. While he waits for a living kidney donor match, his family has been volunteering at their local Ronald McDonald House to give back. They had the following to share:

“We would like to personally thank Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald House for being our ‘home away from home’ for almost four months. Words can’t really express our gratitude for your kindness and hospitality to our family!”

—Tanisha and Quentin

Jaleel’s Family Gives Back, Thanks to You

Dear Friends,

In 2019, our eyes were glued to watching the construction of our new tower, which will expand our House from 78 to 177 rooms. We enjoyed watching our guest families and volunteers take in the view, too. We thought we knew what change looked like. As 2019 came to a close, we celebrated our accomplishments and looked forward to becoming the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world in 2020.

Little did we know, 2020 would bring about unprecedented changes that would increase worry for our already stressed families. Despite what is happening in the world, our construction safely continued, showing our families that one thing will not change: We will continue to be here for them, now and in the future. When the world around us came to a halt, we remained open and continued caring for families. This wouldn’t be possible without you and your unwavering support.

This 2019 Annual Report recognizes and celebrates you and everyone who continues to give our families hope for the future. On behalf of all of us at Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald House, thank you for being by our side through all of these changes.

Fondly,

Jennifer Loeb Executive Director

By the Numbers

In 2019, 2,236 families called our House home.

The average length of stay was 54 nights.

By giving more than 50,000 hours of their time, our volunteers provided 628 meals, 769 activities and countless hours of support to our guest families.

They came to us from 40 states & 7 countries.

They waited an average of 17 days before a room was available.

Watching Our Future Being Built

Our expansion is about so much more than additional rooms. It’s about creating a home for thousands more families when they are so far away from their own. It’s about a safe space for children whose immune systems are already facing so much. It’s about keeping families together when they need it most. We can’t wait to bring More Rooms and More Love to families.
