Nearly forty years of social commitment

MissionCreation and verified management of processes and services that focus on individuals and communities, to empower them and reinforce their active participation while generating social and personal equality and collective welfare.

VisionWe are a leading institution that promotes a third-sector model characterised by:• Ethical values in both the use of resources and our relationships with individuals and groups, communities and the public administration.• An efficient management of publicly and privately funded programmes.• Our service as a tool that promotes the social commitment of the local people and a model of life together in solidarity.• The promotion and defence of the rights and responsibilities of the most vulnerable individuals and groups and those at the greatest risk of social exclusion.

Values• Ethics and transparency.• Professionalism.• Creativity, innovation and quality.• Respect and peaceful coexistence.• Social commitment and the defence of people’s rights.• Objectivity and certification.

The Welfare and Development Association ABD is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation born in the 1980s, at a time when drug use and the AIDS pandemic were wreaking havoc among the young population. It was in that context that a group of professionals and volunteers came together to provide care for drug users, their families and the neighbours and neighbourhoods around them. Today, ABD continues to work to reduce inequalities and social and health-related vulnerability through a wide range of actions.

The ABD’s social action covers all aspects of society, as we support individuals and communities in very diverse situations. These include intellectual disability, physical and mental health problems, the lack ofbasic necessities such as work, housing and electricity, gender violenceand child abuse, the mere fact of growing old or moving to anothercountry, drug use, discrimination based on gender, ethnicity or origin, andthe lack of access to services, among others.

Membership to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development In every case, our aim is to contribute to strengthening the individuals, groups and communities who suffer exclusion processes and to strengthen their abilities and defend their rights. We believe in the need to develop shared strategies, which is why the ABD has joined the 2030 Agenda, a comprehensive and multidimensional project that sets out a series of sustainable development objectives envisaged to face the major global challenges and bring us closer to having the world we want.

Our essence

We have our own intervention model. That model is the framework that we have established as the base for all our social actions. It is made up of twelve essential shared principles that set our daily practice apart from others. They constitute a shared horizon and serve as a space for shared recognition for the entire organisation.

Social justice as a criterion to stop the processes of social exclusion.

Gender equality and non-discrimination based on age, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation, among others.

The subject of law as the core principle of a service focused on the active individual.

Incorporation of the global agenda and the defence of rights into the institution’s strategy.

A critical outlook to deconstruct beliefs and prejudices in social action.

Research and evidence to challenge commonly accepted practices and promote innovation.

A multidimensional approach that contemplates the interaction of biological, psychological, social and educational aspects.

Proximity and social inclusion as strategies to strengthen the relationships that provide support to the people.

Work from the margin, defending methodologies with low levels of demands.

An ethic of responsibility as the core of a public service undertaking.

Non-profit with the support of governance for the promotion of social changes.

A transformational economy to reinforce an alternative social ecosystem.

Covid-19 won’t stop us

The crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic is a

major challenge. The situations of many

individuals who were already at risk of social exclusion have become

worse. For this reason, we will continue to work

fiercely, while building a line of social defence to

prevent even more devastating

consequences for the most fragile sectors of the

community.
