Ben Hicks opens his first season as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Chattahoochee Valley Community College. Hicks received his master’s degree in Sports and Fitness Management from Troy University, bachelor’s degree from Shorter College in Rome, GA, and an associate’s degree from Bevill State Community College in Jasper, AL.

He most recently served as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach/Facul-ty at Georgia Southwestern State University. Before serving in that role, he was the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at both Columbus State University and Jacksonville State University. Hicks had a suc-cessfull run at Columbus State during the 2015-2016 campaign as the Cougars won the Peach Belt Conference regular season title with a record of 14-5, made their second straight trip to the NCAA National Tournament and finished with an overall mark of 21-8.

Hicks has also served within the Alabama Community College System as Athletic Director and Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Alabama Southern Community College where he enjoyed four successful years. After a 15-15 record his first year at the helm, Hicks had one of the best three-year stretches in school history posting a 73-22 overall record and 42-6 mark in ACCC action. He posted three straight 20-win seasons, including a 27-5 record in the 2009-2010 season in which he received the Birmingham Tip Off Club’s Glen Clem/Junior College Coach of the Year Award and his second consecutive ACCC Coach of the Year award.

Things have come full circle for Hicks as this is his second journey at CVCC. Early in his career from 2005-2007, he worked as Assistant Coach and Recruiter and helped lead the Chattahoochee Valley Community College Pirates to the Alabama Community College state playoffs while under the leadership of Richard Mahone who retired after last season.

Hicks is the proud son of Sally Hicks and Ben Hicks (Jackie). He has two sons, Trey and Benja-min, and one daughter, Brianna. He is an active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Hicks is dedicated to public service in the community and devotes his time participating in service projects in the Chattahoochee Valley communities.

Christopher Reedy enters his first season with the Chattahoochee Valley Community College men’s basketball team. He is a graduate of Lee University in Cleveland, TN, with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.

During his four years at Lee, he worked as a student assistant with the Lee University Flames. Reedy was instrumental in helping transition Lee University from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to NCAA Division 2. From 2016 to 2019, Reedy served as Assistant Coach at Columbus State University where he helped lead the Cougars to the regular season conference championship and a NCAA National Tournament Appearance.

Some highlights of Reedy’s career include coaching 19 players who made it to the professional level overseas, and having the pleasure of

coaching a player who established a career as a Harlem Globetrotter.

The CVCC Pirates Men’s Basketball Team goes into a new season looking to build upon the success from the 2018-2019 season under retired Coach Richard Mahone. The Pirates will be led by four returning sopho-mores who made a run to the ACCC Tourna-ment Championship game. Donald Jackson, named 2nd Team All South Division, along with several new players, will look to make a run to the national tournament.

Returning to the sideline now as the new Head Men’s Basketball Coach for the Pirates, Coach Ben Hicks is ready to build upon the winning tradition. His team will be built on toughness, discipline, and com-peting every possession. The Pirates will play aggressively, both offensively and defensively, which should be exciting to watch.

The CVCC Pirates Men’s Basketball Team is a hardworking family looking to make everyone proud by carrying the torch from last year’s team.
