The Village of Stanford’s showing off its Flair for a FairThe long weekend in March (21-23rd in case you haven’t already highlighted it in your diaries) will see the Overberg village of Stanford showcasing the best of small-town life with the Stanford Village Fair.

A Jazz Soiree at one of Stanford’s newest hot spots, Don Gelato, kicks of the festivities on Thursday evening, followed by all things arty on the Friday including the Art Route Opening and an art auction at the Stanford Table. A champagne breakfast at Coffee Corner will start the Friday off right, and a stroll around town to see the Scarecrow Trail is a must! In between, shopping, antique hunting and local restaurants will keep you exploring. And just in case you could not make the Thursday soiree, there will be a repeat on the Friday night after the Art Route opening.

The village green is the centre of attention on Saturday from 10am as artisan food and crafts, coupled with local wine and beer tasting, get visitors drooling.A fun run, classic car show, and a dog show add to the excitement, as will some good ol’ fashioned children’s games and activities. Once we have you allhappy and fed, and have visited the local artists in their home environment, we’ll let you dance the night away to Cape Town band, Late Final, whose vastrepertoire will have the whole family, and then some, swinging their hips and loving life in a little village in the country.

Stanford Food Heroes - brings consumers and local food heroes together and promotes Stanford to a wider audience.

Who is a Stanford Food Hero?A Stanford Food Hero is any initiative around food based in the Stanford area that produces, sells, grows, creates, or encourages and supports local food. Currently there are cheese makers, restaurants, market stallholders, sausage makers, vegetable growers, a gelato maker, wine farms, and 2 NGOs.

What is ‘Stanford Food Heroes’?• Stanford Food Heroes provides information about local food initiatives in and around Stanford to local consumers, and visitors.• The main platform is a brochure, paid for by Stanford Tourism, and distributed across the Overberg and beyond.• Stanford Food Heroes has a Facebook page where news about Stanford FoodHeroes is regularly posted (www.facebook.com/StanfordFoodHeroes).• There is also a directory website that promotes local food heroes beyond Stanford and many Stanford Food Heroes are listed on the site (www.yourfoodheroes.com).• They are also promoted by Stanford Tourism’s website, Facebook page and twitter.• There are occasional other events and promotions that some Stanford Food Heroes participate in.• Stanford Food Heroes pay a small annual membership fee and are all members of Stanford Tourism.

What Stanford Food Heroes is not.Stanford Food Heroes is not a restaurant guide to Stanford.Stanford Food Heroes is not a guide to Stanford shops.Stanford Food Heroes is not a large group of market stallholders doing food. (A few do but the majority does not).

What was the motivation behind the idea of Stanford Food Heroes? The idea of Stanford Food Heroes came from a desire to make it easier forconsumers, who were interested in buying their food more locally, to know about who was doing what around local food in the Stanford area.
