TEAM CAPTAIN GUIDELINES AND ONE WALK PROCEDURES

To ensure a smooth Walk experience, we have outlined important Team Captain Guidelines and Procedures.

WHAT IS A WALK TEAM?

A walk team consists of 2 or more team members who are committed to raising funds for your walk team. We strongly encourage recruiting at least 10 – 12 members for your team to raise the most money possible for T1D research.

The Team Captain serves as a liaison between your team and JDRF. Team Captains should forward any information they receive from JDRF staff to their team members such as important dates, events, and updates.

You are the cheerleaders for your team. It is your responsibility to make sure all team members are aware of the great work that JDRF is doing and why it is so important to meet the suggested fundraising goals to fulfill our mission. IT IS NOT ENOUGH JUST TO WALK...WE NEED TO FUNDRAISE FOR OUR MISSION!

All registered Walk Team Captains and Team Members are invited to attend the *One Walk Kick-off events. The

Kick-off is a perfect opportunity to network with other walk teams, JDRF staff and volunteers, and get revved up for the Walk! It is sure to be packed full of food, fun, and important information!

*We encourage you to have your own mini Walk Kick-off party for your work or organization. JDRF staff is available to come out and participate and/or speak.

PRIOR TO WALK REGISTRATION

ALL TEAMS AND TEAM MEMBERS MUST BE REGISTERED. We encourage each person on a team to register online by visiting walk.jdrf.org. If you need help registering your team members, please contact your JDRF One Walk staff partner.

Registration is free. There are no minimum donation requirements to participate, but we do have a goal of “no zero dollar walkers”. Please encourage your team members to fundraise!

FUNDRAISING

Each Team Captain must indicate their team fundraising goal online. A JDRF One Walk staff partner will be contacting you to go through goal setting to help you have a successful walk experience and set realistic expectations.

You will receive donation collection envelopes upon registering your team. You may request additional collection envelopes for your team members using the Fundraising Tools Order Form. Each team member turning in cash or checks MUST turn in a completed donation collection envelope.

Our goal is that every participant raises $100. Every participant that raises $100 earns the Official JDRF One Walk t-

shirt, which is the first level in the individual incentive structure. You can check out all the great incentives at each fundraising level online at onewalkrewards.jdrf.org. Please note some items may change for the 2018 Walk season. *You may choose to forgo your individual incentives if you would like each member of your team to earn a JDRF Walk t-shirt. For example: One person raises all of the money on your team and has raised enough for each person to receive a t-shirt. The person who has raised all the money will need to forgo their individual incentive prize if they choose to allow each team member to receive a JDRF One Walk t-shirt.

FUNDRAISING CONT.

All MONIES RAISED MUST BE TURNED IN EITHER ON OR PRIOR TO WALK DAY TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CERTAIN INCENTIVES AND RECOGNITION. Some event day recognition benefits may have earlier deadlines in order to ensure proper credit – these will be communicated appropriately throughout the walk season. For example: V1P recognition, Team Village Tents etc.

It is your responsibility as the Team Captain to cheer your team members to success! Contact your assigned Team

Coach or your JDRF One Walk staff partner for additional fundraising ideas.

You will be responsible for turning in all walk donations for each of your team members. We strongly encourage you to turn in all walk donations for your team members prior to Walk Day.

Walk donations may be mailed and/or hand delivered to your local JDRF office.

We strongly encourage every participant to make a self-donation. This is a great way to lead by example and show you are committed to turning Type One into Type None!

WEBSITE/PARTICIPANT CENTER

Any off-line walk donations - cash or checks – that you entered on your fundraising page through your participant center, and that were not turned in to your local JDRF office prior to the Walk, will be rejected the Monday following Walk Day.

What does this mean for you? If you have entered cash or check donations in your participant center and turn them in on Walk Day, they will be rejected on the Monday following Walk. You will notice that your team total is less than what you have raised. All donations turned in on Walk Day will be re-entered on your fundraising page approximately two weeks after the Walk.

Why do we do this? This helps ensure accurate data entry of Walk Day donations and prevents any duplicate entries.

How can you avoid this? Please turn in your Walk donations to the JDRF office prior to the Walk. JDRF staff will enter all donations on your fundraising page prior to Walk Day.

WALK DAY

You will need to visit the Check-In Tent if you need to turn in any additional Walk donations, obtain your JDRF One Walk t-shirt ticket for raising at least $100, and/or obtain your V1P Lanyard and one guest pass, that will allow entry for the V1P and guest to visit the V1P tent on Walk Day, for individually raising $1,000.

Team members that need to register on Walk Day can do so by completing and submitting the collection envelope at the Check-In Tent.

If you are new to the Walk, please be sure to visit the New Family Team Tent for more JDRF information and receive

some fun JDRF swag!

Don’t forget to take a walk team photo in the Team Photo area!

Are you Type One?

While Walk Day is a celebration of our fundraising accomplishments, we

also want to acknowledge the reason we all worked so hard… to improve

lives for children and adults living with T1D each and every day. Because of

our loved ones with T1D, we are inspired and strengthened in our resolve

to create a world without T1D.

T1D identifier image coming soon!

We have a special new item to wear for every walker who has T1D to honor their determination to overcome this

disease and to let them know that they are not alone. We hope everyone with T1D will wear it proudly on Walk

Day.

JDRF New Family Tent

Those of you who have attended a JDRF Walk before already know

what a fun and inspiring day it is for everyone.

On Walk Day there will be a New Family tent where families can

stop by and learn more about JDRF, meet other JDRF families, and

find out how we work together to raise awareness and funds to

cure, treat, and prevent T1D.

We have an exclusive JDRF drawstring backpack for new families as a special welcome and thank you.

TO QUAILFY FOR INCENTIVES: All money raised must be turned in on or prior to walk day** to be eligible for certain walk day incentive prizes and recognition.

**Some event day recognition benefits may have earlier money turn in deadlines in order to ensure proper credit – these will be communicated appropriately throughout the Walk season. Example: V1P perks and recognition, Team Village Tents, etc.
