General Information
Administrative Teleconference
An Administrative Championship conference call is scheduled for Thursday, March 22 at 10 a.m.
ET to discuss all items relevant for the championship. Each head coach and sport administrator is
required to participate in the call. The call-in number is TBA.
Awards
The SEC equestrian champion is presented a trophy immediately following the conclusion of the
final day of the competition. Each member of the All-Championship Team shall receive individual
trophies. The All-Championship team is determined by a committee comprised of Chuck Dunlap of
the SEC (chair) and the head coach of each institution.
Most Outstanding Performers- Championship: The judges will confer and select one Most
Outstanding Performer per event from each competition in the championship (total of four per
competition per day). Honorees will receive flowers.
All-Championship Team: Each head coach will submit a nomination for one of their own athletes
per event to Chuck Dunlap for the SEC Championship’s All-Championship Team. A ballot will be
compiled and coaches will vote on this award immediately following the SEC Championship. The
four All-Championship Team recipients, one from each event, will receive their individual trophies
at the time of the team trophy presentation.
Banquet
There will not be a banquet held in conjunction with the 2018 SEC Equestrian Championship.
Credentials
Three types of credentials will be issued to various individuals by the host institution for use during
the championship. (NOTE: All credentials are non-transferable and may be used ONLY by the
individual for whom they are issued. Any unauthorized use of credentials subjects the bearer to
immediate dismissal from the facility and prosecution for criminal trespass). The SEC credential
policies are in effect at this and all SEC events.
All requests for credentials should be listed on the enclosed request form and submitted to
Megan Kennington by March 16, 2018.
All-Area: An “All-Area” credential, valid for admission and access to any area and championship
function, will be issued to each institution’s athletics director or designee, head coach, media
relations contact and any other institutional administrators.
Participant: A “Participant” credential, valid for admission and access to the competition facility will
be issued to each participating squad member on each team. Participant credentials are for use
only by coaches, managers, athletic trainers and any other designated competition personnel
(statistician, video coordinator, graduate assistant, doctor, etc.) for competition admittance when
not competing and not in uniform.
Page 7
Media: All members of the working media, to include photographers and videographers, will be
granted a media credential. These media credentials are valid for admission to OneWood
Farm and are valid for championship functions, hospitality and media work areas.
Crowd Control
Southeastern Conference crowd control policies are in effect for the SEC Equestrian
Championship and each institution should have knowledge of these policies prior to their arrival in
Blythewood.
The following items are prohibited in the seating areas of OneWood Farm during the SEC
Championship: animals, artificial noise makers, balloons, firearms, tobacco products, alcohol,
stadium seats in excess of 16 inches, umbrellas, unauthorized banners, signs or flags.
Profanity, racial comments or other intimidating actions directed towards the officials, student-
athletes, coaches or other team representatives will not be tolerated. Individuals making such
remarks may be removed from OneWood Farm.
All items are subject to search before entering the facility.
Eligibility
All competitors must be certified eligible by their institutions as required by the SEC office prior to
participating in the SEC Championship.
Entries
Five riders per the four events will be offered to each of the four SEC institutions sponsoring
equestrian.
Facility
OneWood Farm is the site of the 2018 Equestrian Championship. OneWood Farm is
located at 1201 Syrup Mill Road, Blythewood, SC 29016.
Parking
Free parking will be available to all spectators at the Community Center located at 311 Blythewood Road. Fans will be shuttled to OneWood Farm and will be bag checked prior to boarding the shuttle. Team buses will be able to pull on to the property to unload and will be routed to Cobblestone Park for permanent parking and horse trailers will be routed to 311 Blythewood Road. Shuttles will run from 7AM until 6:30PM Friday and Saturday.
Gates
Gates at OneWood Farm will open 90 minutes prior to the first competition of each day and will
remain open throughout the event.
Horses
Numbers Required: Each member institution will provide 12 horses to the host institution for
use at the Championship. Of those 12, there will ideally be three horses for each event. Each horse
must be capable of competing both days and at the required level of the patterns and tests. All
demo horses and second alternate horses will be provided by the host institution.
Nomination Process: The host institution will organize the nomination and voting on all SEC
Page 8
horses during the same conference calls used for establishing the patterns and tests with the
following guidelines:
• Each institution will nominate three horses from each of the four competing
institutions for each event (nominating 12) by January 31 to the host institution.
• The host institution will distribute all nominated horses to the member institutions by
February 5 for consideration. Each member institution is encouraged to remove any
nominated horse not suitable to travel.
• The host institution will organize conference calls, to include the SEC Championship
Administrator, during the first two weeks of February for the coaches to discuss, edit, and
vote for patterns to be used in the Championship. This process will be completed no later
than February 15.
• It should be noted that changes to this list may need to occur due to the complexities
of the horses’ soundness and suitability. Therefore it is suggested to have an alternate
horse designated for each event at each school in case one of the three is unable to
travel.
Placement in Brackets: Horses used in the meet brackets will not be from either of the
competing teams. (i.e.: if team A rides against team B, then they will ride team C and D’s horses.)
Draw: First-round placement of competing teams into brackets will be done based on seeding.
Seed 1 will face Seed 4, and Seed 2 will face Seed 3. A draw will also occur at the Pre-
Championship Meeting Thursday March 29th at 4pm. Horse order of go will be determined prior to
draw (all horses in alphabetical order) and rider order of go will be determined by the horse drawn.
Inclement Weather
Based on SEC Guidelines, University of South Carolina Event Management and University of
South Carolina Sports Medicine Department, all activity should be suspended and all persons
should seek safe shelter when lightning is within an eight mile radius or less. No contest or
practice should be resumed until all lightning activity within the eight mile radius (30 seconds) has
stopped for 30 consecutive minutes (the 30-30 rule). If the meet is unable to continue, it will be
considered complete if 75 percent of the meet schedule has been completed. If 75 percent cannot
be completed, no SEC Champion will be named.
Issues Not Addressed
For issues not directly addressed by the NCAA, SEC, NCEA, USEF or AQHA, these procedures or
the accompanying appendices will be acted upon by the Commissioner of the SEC, or his
designee.

Page 10
