In 1972, Dan Gilman was 15 years old and full of plans for his summer. A dive into a swimming pool changed his life forever. Dan broke his neck and became wheelchair bound. His family cared for him for many years, but after his mother’s death in 1994, Dan became part of the VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region family. “For me, living at home is comforting and enables me to do what I want.”

For 25 years, we have been at Dan’s side. Providing him the care he needs to remain independent at home. In fact, every year we touch thousands of lives and have grown into one of the largest non-profit provider of home care and hospice care in Vermont. We offer a wide array of programs for vulnerable, at-risk populations including children, individuals with disabilities, and seniors.

Since 1946 the VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region has built relationships, forged friendships, and established working partnerships that help us nurture, protect, and sustain the patients and families who rely on us in times of need. When we are called upon, we bring our award-winning clinical expertise and compassionate care right to wherever our patient’s call home.

Side-by-side as a team we serve those who, through illness or unexpected circumstances are most vulnerable.

Our population is aging, a shift that year-by-year is increasing the demand–and the cost for care across the United States. At the same time, economic pressures are increasing to deliver health care at a lower cost. This is where VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region and home health agencies across the country shine. We are seizing opportunities to position ourselves as a leader and innovator.

We continue to find innovative solutions to meet ever-increasing demand for our services, from prenatal guidance to end-of-life care, and from care at home to outpatient therapy. But even as we’ve expanded our reach, our focus always remains on the unique needs and special difficulties of each individual we serve.

But, we can’t do it alone.

We are grateful for our friends, donors, volunteers, board of directors, leadership and staff who join us in our mission. Side by side, with you, we will continue to ensure that our community receives the clinically excellent, compassionate, patient-centered care– today and for generations.

DANCING WITH THE RUTLAND STARS

Bella Notte, a Beautiful Night for Giving, was held at the Southside Steakhouse in September. This annual fundraiser for the hospice program raised more than $70,000.

The Thrift Shop located behind the VNAHSR offices in Manchester is a fundraiser for the VNA & Hospice. From clothing to homewares and furniture, you never know what treasures you’ll find at the Thrift Shop. We are thankful to our donors who each and every day donate the items that we sell. We are also grateful to all of those who stop in to browse and purchase items. Last year, thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, the thrift shop brought in more than $100,000 and these funds support the many programs and services provided by the VNA & Hospice.

Every year, VNAHSR staff makes more than 140,000 visits throughout Bennington and Rutland Counties. What’s special about what we do is that we serve every person who needs our care—from mothers and babies, to healthy active adults, and people nearing the end of life. Over the last four years, VNAHSR has subsidized over $3.3 million in Medicaid and other state programs. We rely on fundraising, grants, and the generous support of our constituents through town funding to help us meet the needs of all in our service area.

In 2018 VNAHSR received town funding totaling more than $200,000 from all 33 towns that we were on the ballot for. Your vote in support of our town funding request is a vote for the health and strength of your community. It’s a vote for your family, friends, and neighbors. Thank you!
