Welcome to 2018, Malden families! I would like to take this opportunity to wish every- one a healthy and happy New Year. The year 2017 ended by acknowledging our fundraiser top sellers, enjoying another Santas Workshop, celebrating our learning in music through performance, awarding our students Winit Seals, enjoying a night at the movies in our gym, and taking part in a good old fashioned Christmas sing along. What a wonderful way to welcome in the holiday sea- son. Although the temper- atures are cold outside, we are heading into 2018 with a full head of steam with many excit- ing opportunities to learn and grow. Our staff will continue to focus on our school goals as we strive to improve student achievement in mathematics. Speaking of the frigid temperatures, during these next few months, please ensure that your child comes to school pre- pared for the cold. Except in the most extreme weather, students will be spending time outdoors (20 minutes at first break and 25 minutes the next break). Hats, boots, and scarves are necessary to ensure that students stay warm. Students are also re- quired to have indoor shoes, especially during these wet months, to change into when coming in from the outdoors. Please help us keep our floors safe, dry. On behalf of the staff, thank you for your continued efforts to support your child (ren)s learning. Open commu- nication between home and school is a priority at Malden. Please continue to check your child(ren)s agenda daily and watch for monthly classroom newsletters and blog updates. Also, please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or good news to share. Mr. K. Kids Have Stress Too Here are some helpful ways to build a less

stressful home: Make sure your child gets exercise and time to play. Healthy food can help the body cope with stress more easily. Spend time with your children and ask them how they feel. Hugs and kisses show children you love them and make them feel good. Bedtime routines help children relax at the end of the day. Sleep is important. A tired child gets stressed more easily. Morning routines get the day off to a good start. Have fun together. A good laugh helps fight off stress.

The good news is even young children can learn to manage their own stress. For more tips for parents and downloads visit www.kidshavestresstoo.org. Adapted from Parenting: School Years

Out of District Student Applications

Elementary out of district applications must be received by the Principal of the receiving school by May 1 of each year

for September of the same year.

This deadline is strictly enforced as schools are staffed based on projected enrolments. If you are considering an applica-

tion for your child(ren) to attend a school as an out of district student for the 2018-19 school year, please ensure that

your application is completed and submitted to the principal by May 1, 2018.

A sibling of a student who has already been approved to attend an out of district school must apply in the usual manner

with no guarantee of acceptance.

Please understand that applying for Out of District at any time may be denied based on open vs. closed boundary

schools or potential Program and Accommodation Reviews. Completion of the form does not guarantee placement at a

requested out of district school. The Superintendent responsible for Accommodations makes the final decision and you

will be officially advised by letter whether or not the application is approved.

Did You Know that you can subscribe to our school’s community calendar to have up to the minute information sent direct-ly to you personal device. Visit Malden’s website at publicboad.ca, go to the calendar on the main page, choose view more items then choose subscribe. It’s that easy!

Kindergarten Open House and Registration In order for our Board to adequately prepare for the 2018-19 school year, we will begin ac-cepting registrations for kindergarten programs February 20th– March 2nd. Many of you are happily aware of the quality and scope of early years education at Malden. We are very proud of the staff, programs and resources available for our youngest learners. If you have a child at home preparing for school this fall for the first time, we look forward to

seeing you in our office to register this month. Everything will be ready to make the process smooth and concise. If you know parents with pre-schoolers, it would be sincerely appreciated if you would share your experience at Malden with them. We believe that our Kindergarten programs are unmatched anywhere and our students start building the foundation of a great education in our classrooms. Everyone will be able to see for themselves at our Open House, on Wednesday, February 21st at 5:00, that we do have Big Plans for Y our Little One.

The school will also be open Thursday, April 5th , from 10:00—12:00 pm for special daytime tours and registration .
