Dear Friends,

I am humbled by the generosity of board members, donors, community partners and volunteers who continue to believe in the Club. Again this year, our supporters made generous and substantial investments in our youth to help them succeed in school, live healthy lives and develop into active and contributing members of our society.

In June of 2018, we proudly opened the doors to a new Club site in Rupert where we are serving over 100 members. We also received notification that we would be receiving a five-year grant through the 21st Century Community Learning Center. This grant was a great fit for our program as it aims to provide kids with opportunities to excel in school and offers programs that enrich character during non-school hours. This effort was only made possible because of our collaboration with the City of Rupert and Minidoka County School District. Getting the Club up and running took a year and a half of planning, fundraising and of course a few construction projects. We look forward to being a part of the Rupert community.

We also dove into a much-needed capital campaign to expand our Twin Falls Club. The expansion will include 7,920 square feet with classroom space for our rapidly growing K-Netic (Kindergarten) and Teen programs. The addition will allow us to serve up to 200 more kids. Our Twin Falls Club has had a waiting list for the past four years. This expansion can’t happen soon enough! I am very grateful to our capital campaign chair, Mike McBride, who has led the charge in this effort. I also want to thank all of you that have contributed to our campaign. We have been fortunate enough to receive a matching grant for up to $600,000 from the J.A. & Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation. This has allowed us to share our story and need with new and existing donors, foundations and our community. We will be breaking ground on our expansion this summer.

On November 1st, we held our first annual “Business Breakfast” benefitting our capital campaign. This event brought over 250 attendees together to hear about our campaign, engage in a fascinating presentation by Mike McHargue (author of Rookie Mistakes). The breakfast was a huge success! Thank you to our sponsors and to those that purchased tickets and tables.

Our high-impact, high-quality programming continues to expand and advance, providing young people with the tools and resources they need to succeed in all aspects of their lives. We strive to strengthen our outcome driven programs while providing a safe, positive environment for the 3,000 youth that walk through our doors each year.

Enclosed, please find our 2018 annual report. I hope you find this report helpful in realizing the value of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley in our community. Thank you for supporting our Clubs!

Best,

Magic Valley

Youth of the Year

Selina’s story isn’t uncommon; growing up in a small town in a single-parent household and

struggling through a broken environment. She experienced homelessness and faced

challenges brought on by financial hardship. Selina, the oldest of four siblings, had to

support her family throughout her childhood, especially when her mother was diagnosed

with cancer. Alongside those hardships, her cousin committed suicide in 2013, which added

to the weight she carried through her teenage years. Although many of those

circumstances are common in today’s society, Selina’s reaction was extraordinary; she used

those experiences to change her environment and lead others, instead of being dragged

down and broken by her past.

Her response to overcoming these obstacles is, “I believe that we are all destined for

success, but it’s our own perception of our trials that stops us.” Selina’s determination to

live by these words shines through in her every day life. She is now a senior at Buhl High

School, excelling as Class President, a member of Honors Jazz Band, Future Hispanic

Leaders of America, and National Honor Society. She’s also a passionate advocate for

suicide awareness and prevention, and works to support suicide prevention efforts. To her,

mental health is crucial to the success of all youth, especially as the future leaders of

America. Upon graduation, Selina plans to attend Washington State University to pursue a

degree in nursing. For now, Selina continues to bring life to those around her through her

determination to lead, succeed, and inspire. Selina Gonzalez

Each year Lowe’s selects one Boys & Girls Club from each state for their Renovation Across the Nation Grant. In 2018, the Club was lucky enough to be selected for this grant for the second year in a row. We were awarded $50,000 to replace our gym floor. Our gym is the most heavily used area in our facility by our Club members as well as community members and local youth sport teams in the Magic Valley. To ensure that all of our kids were having a high-quality Club experience as well as being safe, there was a great need to replace the floor in our gym. We are so grateful to Lowe’s for their generosity and continued support to the Club. We celebrated the installation of the new floor by having our local Lowe’s employees join our Club members for a basketball scrimmage in the gym. The Lowe’s team has continued to support the Club by donating garbage cans, storage shelves and cabinets that they installed for us. We appreciate everything the Lowe’s team has done for us and are happy to have such a great partnership!

“We are so grateful for our partnership with the Magic Valley Boys & Girls Club. The employees at Lowe’s of Twin Falls are lucky to support the BGCMV and the kids & families they serve.” —Dayle Stevens, HR Manager

In November of 2018, we officially kicked off the public phase of our Twin Falls Capital Campaign. The primary goal of this project is to expand our Twin Falls Club to include a

two-level, 7,920 square foot addition. The bottom 5,280 square foot level will be for an early child learning center with classrooms designed to encourage dramatic play, sensory learning, literacy, stem-based activities, and high scope curriculum. The state of the art teen center on the second level will be a 2,640 square foot addition including a café, a computer lab and a games room. Thank you to our Capital Campaign committee, board of directors, generous

donors, foundations and our community for making this dream a reality. Construction on this project will begin this summer.

TWIN FALLS

CAPITAL

CAMPAIGN

INVESTING IN A GREATER FUTURE...

“In less than two years the Boys and Girls Clubs of Magic Valley has raised enough monies to break ground on our new 7,920 square foot addition in Twin Falls to better serve our kids and our community. Our fundraising success story started as President Gregg Middlekauff and Executive Director Lindsey Westburg challenged the board to be 100% supportive at the beginning of our Campaign. They were!! The rest is history, so they say. The board raised over $500,000 internally and then launched our campaign to include a teen center and early childhood education classrooms. The KIDS WIN!!! We will break ground this summer on our new addition thanks to many givers, including our capital campaign committee, several foundations and several local businesses and individuals. A big thanks to all who invested in our campaign.” “Many hands make light work”.

Each year, the Club recognizes and celebrates an outstanding individual or organization for their dedication to impacting the lives of local youth. In February of 2018, our board of directors elected to include board emeritus members. This honorary title is to recognize exceptional service and achievement on behalf of the Boys & Girls Club organization including volunteer time, money and resources. Overall, the Club would not be the same without these individuals. Our first two inductees nominated by our board were Dan Willie and Rick White. We also chose to honor them as the 2018 Club Champions. They have changed the landscape of the Club by believing in our mission and the future generation of kids. Our community is a better place because they are in it. Rick and Dan have been critical in helping the Boys & Girls Club grow & succeed. Their dedication to our vision, our mission and Magic Valley Youth is unparalleled.

“I am so grateful for all the awards and appreciation I have received from the Club and as being recognized as a Club champion. Serving on the board has been some of the most rewarding experiences and times of my life. And seeing young kids from all walks of life grow and achieve and become successful adults is the best reward of all. It is my pleasure to continue to contribute and serve and I will always have a place in my heart for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Magic Valley. “ —Dan Willie
