This era of globalization and economic liberalization has called for a need for a paradigm shift in the field of legal education, in tandem with the global scenario. However, this shift from mere theory towards a more practice-oriented clinical curriculum, rather than being competing is one that complements. With the spate of multinational companies and foreign law firms in India, this paradigm shift has become more pronounced.

In line with the two main priorities for today's legal education i.e. quality and employability, the Institute of Law, Nirma University (ILNU) endeavours to prepare outstanding and ethical legal professionals and statesmen through its unique justice-based curriculum, novel initiatives in pedagogy, and additional professional training and skills development courses. ILNU recognizes that the curriculum not only has to meet with the industry standards and requirements but also has to be futuristic enough to surpass contemporary convention. With this vision in mind, ILNU is committed to excellence in the field of reinventing legal education and through the knowledge of law advance human dignity, social welfare and justice.

At the Institute of Law, we are proud that our young law students are shaped in line with the industry and professional requirements. I invite you to enrol at ILNU and can assure you that as an ILNU student, you will gain an excellent opportunity to develop your potential fully.

I wish all potential applicants success in their endeavours.

“We want an education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on one’s feet. Education is the manifestation of the perfection already inherent in man.“

– Swami Vivekananda

Law, legal education and development have become inter-related concepts in a modern developing society like India which aims to ameliorate the socio-economic condition of the people by peaceful means and to establish a socially equitable and sound welfare state. In a democratic country like India, where rule of law is the driving force for the Government, legal education assumes great significance. It is the crucial function of legal education to produce lawyers and policy makers with a social vision in a developing country like India.

Increasing globalization of business, faster growth of the Indian economy and advancement in technology have given enormous rise to complex legal issues faced by society at large and that has brought about a paradigm-shift in the role of a legal professional. A lawyer today is a policy planner, business advisor, mediator, negotiator, lobbyist, an effective communicator and also a reformer. With the field becoming so vibrant and volatile, choice of law as a profession has seen, over the years, a massive improvement. It has resulted into a situation where legal profession has become one of the most growing and lucrative profession all over the world.

The curriculum at the Institute of Law is novel, innovative and designed to keep students equipped and updated with the skills needed in the profession. A separate enrichment programs and professional training module runs parallel with the course curriculum right from the first year. This enables the students to develop multi-disciplinary approach to law in the sense that law and other behavioral sciences are seen to be inter-related and exist in mutually beneficial interaction.

The aim of the Institute of Law is not merely limited to preparing competent and conscientious members of the legal profession. It is expected to advance and disseminate knowledge of law and legal processes in the context of national development. Consequently, it shall be the endeavor of the Institute of Law to look at law as an instrument of social change, transformation and overall well-being. ILNU strive to inculcate in every student a sense of responsibility towards society and respect for human life, besides developing in them the highest standards of professional behavior and personal integrity.

With the help of well qualified in-house faculty and visiting experts, we, at the Institute, strive hard to create an excellent teaching learning environment so that the students will be able to unfold their potential to the fullest.

ILNU is committed to groom the students admitted in the Institute as excellent, brilliant and confident lawyers to face the challenges which lie ahead of them in their lives.

ILNU is looking at bringing about a paradigm shift in delivery of legal education in the country. It aims to add new dimensions in legal education that would incorporate international standards thereby providing an environment which would enhance freedom and innovation in the dynamic pursuit of thoughts and civil society engagement to advance the law of the land. We also look forward to enhancing research inputs in the education module thereby connecting students and faculty to the larger platform involving other national and international agencies and playing a pivotal role in framing socially relevant policies in the legal sector.

All our initiatives lead to the creation of ethical lawyers, equipped to intervene and reinterpretation of laws, according to the demands of the new millennium
