Sun 18th 11am People of the Parish

On Remembrance Sunday, November 11th this year we mark a centenary since the end of World War One. People around the world and the Commonwealth will be reflecting on the lives that were changed irrevocably, and those that were lost. Around 65 million men were mobilised across Europe during World War One. Nearly a third of them – some 21 million – were wounded. Another 8.5 million were killed and

some 7.7 million were taken prisoners of war. All of them had family and friends whose lives were changed forever by the events of 1914-1918. This year gives us the chance to not just remember World War One but all the people who have died in wars and this includes World War Two, the Falklands War, the Gulf War, and conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. It too gives us a chance to pray and work for peace, looking forward with hope. “God of infinite compassion, give us the strength to seek healing, justice and peace for all; the humility to listen to the voices of the marginalised and those who feel excluded; the ability to pursue tolerance amid difference, yet be intolerant towards evil and injustice; for the sake of your kingdom, demonstrated in Christ. Amen” “We pray that God would work powerfully through us, showing the treasure of his peace through our chipped, broken and ordinary lives. Amen”

THIS WEEKEND we will be handing out cake boxes for the bazaar. Please return them next weekend with cakes for the cake stall. Many thanks for all your support Margaret and Julie

COMMUNION TO THE SICK AND HOUSEBOUND We have a group of wonderful parishioners who take communion to the sick and housebound. Many of the recipients have been receiving Our Lord in this way for a period of time but we rely on you all to let us know when you, a friend or relative needs to be seen. Nor does it have to be long term; if you have been unable to attend Mass for more than a week, please ring the Parish Office. This is a useful time to remind you all that if you or someone close to you is in hospital, please let us know. There have been occasions when people have been in hospital for weeks and we don't know. Thank you

A big THANK YOU to Highcliffe Royal British Legion who provided a lot of the decoration for Remembrance Day as well as Chris Bryden who helped out with arranging the display

Questions for reflection

In discussing a crisis of values Pope Francis repeats his call for Catholics to seek out people on the fringes of society, like the widow in the story, who need help

the most. Are you called to action when you hear about starving

people needing food, or homeless people needing shelter?

What can you do?
