2017 World Scout Moot Boy Scout of America Social Media Tips Dear Council Communica>on Director: The Boy Scouts of America is sending a con>ngent to the World Scout Moot in Iceland in 2017! What’s a Moot? It is an official event of the World Organiza>on of the Scout Movement (WOSM) for Scouts aged 18 – 25. We expect 5,000 par>cipants and 1,000 Interna>onal Service Team (IST) members from more than 100 countries at the Iceland Moot. Par>cipants will engage in a four day high- adventure expedi>on, then gather for the “Althingi”, an ancient Icelandic mee>ng for cross-cultural exchange and ac>vi>es. Our target market in the USA are Venture Scouts, OA members, recent Eagle Scouts, and young BSA leaders who fit the age range. The Moot runs from July 25 th to August 2 nd , 2017. We need your help to promote the WSM17 and, by doing so, raise awareness of the world scou>ng movement. Here are some tac>cs that you can do to promote the Moot: 1. Council Email - put a blurb in your Council email about the Moot. See below for suggested copy. 2. Facebook – post about the Moot and World Scou>ng on a monthly basis. See below for BSA and WSM Facebook pages that from which you can copy/repost. 3. Register to receive more informa>on (see >nyurl below) and check “receive informa>on” on the form. You will be put on our email list and you can post details about registra>on, expedi>ons and con>ngent updates throughout the year. 4. Suggested copy for email and ini>al post: Go to Iceland for the World Scout Moot in 2017 Join the BSA Con>ngent to the World Scout Moot in Iceland next summer. A Moot is a mini- jamboree for young people aged 18 and 25 inclusive. Par>cipants will hike, climb and kayak with Scouts from other countries on a four-day expedi>on, then gather for five days of ac>vi>es and dialogue.
