Innovative, unique and beautifully handcrafted UrbnRok by USP is a material with an ethical heart. The urban landscape is mined for raw materials to make these unique and dazzling surfaces.

Granite and other stone may appear to deliver the beauty of nature, but the earth will never recover from the devastation this industry leaves behind.

UrbnRok is founded on a desire to create high value surfaces from by-products that would otherwise go to landfill. UrbnRok is made in the UK; we source and process all materials ourselves to ensure their quality and recycled status and never use alternatives. Other manufacturers also claim to use recycled aggregates, but this tends to be on a “where possible“ basis.

The glass is mixed with specially developed solvent-free resin and cast into solid panels. The surface is then polished to reveal the embedded glass with creates a beautiful, modern and timeless feature for any space.

The development of UrbnRok recycled products originated with an idea of turning waste products into high quality surface that are at the cutting edge of architectural design and eco-manufacturing.

USP Designs has a genuine commitment to the eco market and its customers.The aggregates are sourced and processed in the UK, ensuring that virgin materials are never used. We collect all our raw materials from towns and cities close to our factory, picking up bottles from pubs, restaurants and urban recycling co-operatives (it takes up to 150 beer bottles to manufacture a square meter of UrbnRok).By using clear glass and mirror off cuts from glazing companies, we reduce waste to landfill.

The worktops are made at our factory that follows the company ethos.The process requires very little electricity, the molds are reused, timber of-cuts fuel the factory heater and a water recycling system minimises usages. The resin cures at ambient temperature so ovens are mot required.

UrbnRok has already been recognised for its ethical stance. Our eco manufacturing model has resulted in industry recognition including Grand Design Green Product 2010, One Planet Product winner and the National Recycling Award.

The company values people. It is important for us to provide employment in this sector for benefit of the UK economy and we aim to further this through training and develop-ing for all skill levels.

We believe that our business model, making a consistent, high quality recycled prod-uct, using local labour and re-using local waste, is a regional solution to a global problem.

The Process

Sourcing/ CollectingGlass bottles are collected and sorted by colour into clear, blue,

brown, mint and olive. Flat glass is separated into

clear and mirror. TV glass and seashells are sourced from

local processors.

ProcessingThe bottles are washed, steri-

lised and de-labelled, shells are washed are sterilised and glass

sheets are cleaned.Material is then crushed in 100kg batches, sieved to 6

standard aggregate sizes and stored in 900L quarantined

batches.

Site Survey and

TemplatingWhen you order is received, we book a site survey. During this visit our team will discuss your requirements such as the po-sitioning of sink and hob, take detailed measurements and

produce templates or drawings.

Drawing createdAfter the order is confirmed, we create CAD drawing from the templates and measurements

of your project. This is then sent to the client for confirmation.

ManufacturingOnce an order is confirmed, a slot in the manufacturing pro-gramme is allocated, drawing are forwarded to the joinery

department for the molds to be made.

The molds are sent to the pour-ing area where the process of

filling takes place.The mold is then taken to the temperature controlled curing

room.

CaibrationThe material is de-molded

before calibrating both sides of the surface to within 1mm of

required thickness.

PolishingThe slab now is ready for

manual or automatic polishing depending on the pattern. This

can take up to 12 grades of polishing abrasive.

Edge polish and

fabricationThe slab goes for fabrication, where the edges are polished and any specified cut-outs or

features are added. Finally, the finished worktop is stored or packaged for delivery

and fitting.

Delivery and InstallationAfter 10-15 working days from the initial site survey, we return

to install UrbnRok surfaces.To ensure the quality of our

installations, we DO NOT use sub-contractors.

We make the best recycled surfaces because UrbnRok has always placed research and development at the centre of its strategy. We have invested time and effort into perfecting our surfaces, with ongoing research into all aspects of the service; from glass collection, raw material processing with our bespoke designed machinery, our patented manufacturing system and our unique installation method. It is this investment that sets us apart from other manufactures and enables USP Designs to exploit uniqueness of the product.
