ADMINISTRATIONGeneral Warranty Information

Toro Serial Number Format

Starting with Model Year 2017, Toro-manufactured equipment will have a new serial number format. We will begin utilizing SAP to generate and control a serial number for each individual unit, which represents an industry best practice that:

• Delivers enhanced tracking and control by unit • Standardizes the number assignment process across all Toro manufacturing plants

SAMPLE SERIAL NUMBER: 400010500

See Administrative Service Bulletin (July 20, 2016) for more details.

No Warranty Charges

Under no circumstances should a customer be charged for repairs which are covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. A dealer must not charge a customer a fee for filing the warranty claim. Toro discourages charging a customer for diagnostic time. If a dealer charges a diagnostic fee as a condition of providing service, it MUST be returned upon completion of repair if the repair is covered under warranty. Except for electrical diagnostics on certain products, a separate diagnostic fee can’t be claimed when filing a warranty because the Toro Standard Repair Times include diagnostic time.

Residential Use or Commercial Use?

The warranty period varies depending on the use of the machine. Below is a clarification between residential and commercial use.

“Residential Use” warranty coverage applies to residential and LCE products owned by an individual and used exclusively at their place of residence.

“Commercial Use” warranty coverage applies to any application other than individuals at their place of residence. This coverage is automatically applied to products registered to any business or institution.

ADMINISTRATION

Defective Parts

Stock parts, parts determined to be defective prior to sale or installation, should be claimed in accordance with your parts source.

Parts installed on a machine or sold to a customer carry different warranty periods (see chart below). Claims for defective parts should be filed in PRW using the “Parts Warranty” claim type. Please see the warranty statement in the Operator’s Manual for certain part warranty exceptions.

Residential CommercialLandscape Contractor 1 year 1 year

Product Registrations

Warranty claims can not be submitted without the product being properly registered in PRW. Registration changes that involve the customer’s name or address can be done by the dealer.

Dealers can request the following changes to registrations in PRW by using the “Return to Stock” button in the registration:

1. Delete an entire registration

2. Change a purchase date

See the PRW User Manual for complete instructions.

Hold Parts for 30 Days

Remember: Do not throw away any part claimed on a warrant. Keep them for 30 days after the warranty claim has been paid. RGA documentation is computer generated through the PRW system.

Prior Approval

Prior Distributor Service Manager (or Toro Technical Service Representative in Direct Service Markets) approval is required for claims involving:

• Out of warranty repairs • Complete engine replacement • Replacement of any hydraulic pump, wheel motor, or hydrostatic transaxle/transmission

ADMINISTRATION

Email Address must be Maintained

Toro uses email to communicate warranty and service information. It is important to inform us if you change your email address. Updates can be made in the Toro Dealer and Distributor Portal on the home page by clicking, “Update My Info.”

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

In the United States, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act requires that the contents of the warranty statement be made available to consumers prior to their making a purchase. Some retailers have been fined for non-compliance with the pre-sale availability requirement, and it should not be taken lightly.

Acceptable forms: • Loose-leaf binder • Wall poster • Hang tag • Statement affixed to product

Product Warranty Coverage

The Toro Gateway Parts and Service Center, (accessible from the Toro Dealer and Distributor Portal), is the best resource for finding applicable warranty terms for all Toro products. Click on “Product Reference,” type in the model number, click search, select the appropriate unit and scroll to the bottom for warranty coverage.

What is Gateway?

Gateway Parts and Service Center is accessed through the Dealer and Distributor Portal. It covers a variety of service information including Master Parts Viewer (a free parts lookup tool for all equipment dating back to 1960), Product and Model Reference, Publications Search, Service Bulletins, manuals (operator’s, parts and service), and other service education and reference materials.

Rear Wheel CoverA new rear wheel cover and wheel for 2017 will prevent debris from entering the wheel gear area. In addition, the cover will not protrude from the wheel and that will prevent wheel cover wear and damage. A kit to install this assembly on 2014-2016 machines is available and includes a new bolt for the bearing retainer. Kit 136-5850 contains one wheel, one wheel gear cover, and a new bolt with a thinner head for the bearing retainer.

TURFMASTER™To improve performance on hills, an adjustable transmission stop bracket has been added to the TURFMASTER™. This stop should be adjusted to just barely touch the transmission. If it applies pressure to the transmission it will dramatically shorten the life of the transmission. A kit to add this stop to 2014-2016 machines will be available for the 2017 season (P/N 136-7055).

Transmission Stop Bracket Kit #136-7055

A larger diameter spring is used on the BBC cable to provide increased life. Replacement BBC cables for older machines will also use this new spring.

Our preferred oil for hydro models is Toro HYPR-OIL® 500. Please check the machine’s operator’s manual to see what other oils may be used. More frequent fluid changes may be required when using other oils. As with other hydro systems, inform your customers not to substitute automotive oil filters. They are not fine enough to protect a hydrostatic system.

Toro HYPR-OIL® 500 Part Numbers: • 114-4713 HYPR-OIL® 500 (Quart) • 114-4714 HYPR-OIL® 500 (1 Gallon) • 114-4715 HYPR-OIL® 500 (5 Gallons)

UHT Transmission Oil Filter Service InformationWhen servicing models equipped with a UHT transmission you can determine if the initial service maintenance has been performed by checking the unit’s hours and oil filter. The original unit’s UHT oil filter will NOT have a Toro logo on the rim. All service parts will have the Toro logo. This can also be helpful when diagnosing UHT performance issues.

Hydrostatic SystemOur preferred oil for hydro models is Toro HYPR-OIL® 500. Please check the machine’s operator’s manual to see what other oils may be used. More frequent fluid changes may be required when using other oils. As with other hydro systems, inform your customers not to substitute automotive oil filters. They are not fine enough to protect a hydrostatic system.

UHT Transmission Oil Filter Service Information When servicing models equipped with a UHT transmission you can determine if the initial service maintenance has been performed by checking the unit’s hours and oil filter. The original unit’s UHT oil filter will NOT have a Toro logo on the rim. All service parts will have the Toro logo. This can also be helpful when diagnosing UHT performance issues.

TITAN® HD

Features and Benefits (Cont.)New Fuel Pick Up DesignThe fuel tank and fuel pick up design is a new design for riding products. The fuel pick up system is designed to pull fuel from any part of the tank in low fuel situations as well as reducing the affect of debris in the tank. The fuel pick up inside the tank is available as a service part.

Technical Issue ResolutionHydrostatic Drive System Initial ServiceThe first hydro fluid and filter change for the new TITAN® HD hydros must occur prior to the unit having 100 hours on it as they are filled with a break-in oil by Hydro Gear. This oil is not capable of running for extended periods of time without the potential of damaging the internal components of the drives. The first recommended change is requested at the 75-hour mark ± 25 hours. After that it’s every 500 hours if using Toro HYPR-OIL® or every 250 hours if using Mobil 1 20W-50.

Technical Service TipsHydrostatic Drive System Torque Sequence

The proper torque sequence, as outlined below, is critical in avoiding damage to the hydrostatic drive units and the chassis. Pay careful attention to the torque sequence and torque specifications for each fastener location when installing a new hydrostatic drive unit. Install all hardware loosely at first then tighten in the order outlined below. An easy way to remember the sequence is to tighten the cross shaft first, then tighten the bolts from the rear of the machine toward the front.

1. Cross Shaft (Torque to 43 ± 5 ft-lbs or 52-65 Nm)2. Rear Mounting Bolt3. Axle Horn Bolts4. Front Mounting Bolt

Features and BenefitsAttachments/Accessories

Brush Cutter-Flail bladeThe unique flail blade design enhances cutting performance to handle the toughest of jobs. Each flail blade has two separate cutting edges - as the cutting blade becomes worn the blade can be reversed adding to its overall longevity. The flail blade is standard with the machine, a traditional straight blade can be ordered separately through parts.

• Electric Start: Electric start makes starting easy and is a standard feature.

• Electric Clutch: The electric clutch is extremely durable and holds up against forceful blade impacts.

• High-Performing Tires: Sealant-filled, aggressive tread tires provide effective traction for brush removal projects on slopes, ditches or culverts.

• Knuckle Guards: The operator’s hands have added protection with the durable knuckle guards.

• Differentiated Controls: A one-hand control design allows the operator to easily drive the machine in both forward and reverse.

• Pivoting Deck: The pivoting deck allows for easy maneuvering over obstacles and uneven terrain.

• Product Design and Durability: Superior overall product design, including a high-strength steel deck, 1 3/8 in. spindle shaft and large diameter pulleys, optimizes the longevity of the machine.

Technical Issue Resolution30 in. Stand-On AeratorThe hourmeter on the 30 in. Stand On Aerator will operate when the engine has sufficient oil pressure instead of only when the key switch is on. The 30 in. Stand On Aerator is built with a Kawasaki FS541 engine for an increase in HP. The 21 in. Stand On Aerator comes with metal wheel rims. They do retro-fit to older units as long as you order the new bolt and spacer along with the wheel.

Transmission and Cogged Belt Idler Pulley Additional Warranty

PRODUCT: TurfMaster 30” Mowers UNITS AFFECTED: Model Number(s): Serial Number(s): 22200 313000000 – 314999999 SUBJECT: The transmission and cogged belt idler pulleys in 2013 and 2014

machines may not meet customers’ expectations for durability and life. The design implemented on transmissions and pulleys for 2015 machines (and replacement parts for 2013 and 2014 machines) provides significantly longer life.

CORRECTION: Effective immediately, all 2013 and 2014 Turfmasters will have a two

year warranty on the transmission and cogged belt idler pulleys. The additional year of warranty coverage for commercial users will begin on the original date of purchase and cover both parts and labor. This bulletin does not affect products sold to residential customers as they already carry a two year warranty. All registered commercial owners will be sent a copy of the attached letter informing them of the additional warranty coverage. If you have any unsold inventory of the affected units you should add a copy of the attached letter to each machine.

WARRANTY: For transmissions and cogged belt idler pulleys that fail within the

additional year of warranty coverage, a warranty claim should be submitted for parts and labor (same as if the failure occurred in the first year).

The normal warranty claim process should be followed.

Pick-up and Delivery: N/A PARTS: See Toro Master Parts Viewer for the most up to date part numbers.

Parts covered are the transmission, and the two idler pulleys for the cogged belt.

Heavy Duty 21” – 2016 Product Improvements PRODUCT: 2016 Heavy Duty 21” Mowers WARRANTY: Information only. Warranty does not apply. PARTS: All 2016 product improvements mentioned below will also be made to

replacement parts for 2014 and 2015 machines. SITUATION: In 2014, we introduced the new 21” Heavy Duty mower to replace a design that

had been in production for over 25 years. Over the past two years, we have made several improvements to the new design and we will continue to do so in the coming years. This bulletin is to advise you of improvements made for 2016 models of the 21” Heavy Duty Mowers. These improvements are also covered in the 2016 Residential Product Updates and the 2016 LCE Product Updates.

Transmission Differential – We replaced the spring-loaded ratchet assembly with a rocking key design, similar to the one used on the 2013 and older Heavy Duty mowers. The new no-maintenance design will be located inside the transmission to protect it from dirt and keep it lubricated. Testing has shown that this proven design is much more wear resistant. Once wear occurs, this design continues to provide drive much longer than the 2014 & 2015 design.

HEAVY DUTY WALK ROTERIES #57 February 23, 2016 Wheel Gears – Both the wheel gears and the pinions which drive them, have been changed to a harder metal to improve wear resistance. Occasionally lubricating the gears with anti-seize grease after cleaning is recommended. This recommendation to remove the wheel, and clean and lubricate the gears has been added to the 2016 Operator’s Manual.

Bearing Retainer Assembly (number 17 below) – The bearings will have a double lip seal (vs. single lip seal) which will do a better job of keeping moisture, mud, and other debris out of the bearing. This seal change will result in noticeably longer bearing life and this will help prolong wheel gear life by maintaining correct gear mesh.

Wheel Bearings – Improved rear wheel bearings will provide longer bearing life, and help maintain proper wheel gear mesh, resulting in longer wheel gear life. This will be the same new bearing (with double lip seal) used in the Bearing Retainer Assembly.

HEAVY DUTY WALK ROTERIES #57 February 23, 2016 Height of Cut Key – The key has been switched to a harder material for increased strength and wear resistance. New keys will last longer and be much more resistant to breakage due to impact. New keys can be identified by the darker color and the threaded hole.

Brake/Zone Start Cable, Adjustable – Beginning mid-year 2016 we will introduce adjustable brake cables for all Honda powered zone-start units. This will allow you to adjust for worn components rather than replacing them. Adjustment will be at the operator end of the cable, similar to what was offered on our old Heavy Duty mowers. Kawasaki powered units will receive this change in 2017. Pivot Arm, Rear – Switching from ¼ inch regular steel, to ¼ inch high-strength steel for increased resistance to bending. This will help keep the wheels aligned, improve drive gear mesh, and reduce gear wear. The pivot arms will appear identical to the 2015 version. Rear Wheel Tire – The tire material has been improved to provide increased abrasion resistance, resulting in longer tread wear. Wheel Cover –We will continue to work on this area to improve the durability and the ability to keep debris from entering the wheel gear area. A redesigned wheel and cover is under development and we expect this improvement to be introduced for 2017 machines.
