( )+2017 Sponsorship Package

Please join us at our hackathon for a creative, innovative, and exciting weekend of fast-paced team work and creative problem solving.

By sponsoring our Saskatoon-based hackathon, your organization will have unique opportunities to grow your brand and see talented people in action. We are creating a platform where healthcare professionals, technology builders, and business leaders can form interprofessional teams who would otherwise never meet. We don’t want to teach surgeons how to write code, and we don’t want to teach coders to interpret heart murmurs—we are bringing together people with the different skills needed to solve problems in healthcare. Together, these teams build their solutions in a friendly competition over a weekend. Not only will you have a chance to see their creations unfold, you are the one with the power to make this all possible.

In this sponsorship package, we are going to tell you more about what we are doing, and help you discover the opportunities are available to you. Please help us to remove all barriers to imagination.

Med.Hack(+) is a competition where people from different fields brainstorm and solve problems in the healthcare industry within 48 hours using technology.

We were formerly known as Hacking Health Saskatoon, but we took a new direction as a non-profit corporation.

Our planning team is comprised of hardworking and dedicated students from across multiple colleges and student groups at the University of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

We have a Board of Directors comprised of members of the business community and from support foundations to help guide us.

What is a hackathon?

Hackathons bring people together to intensively work on projects. Teams can focus on both software and hardware development. They occur over a few days, and usually have a theme, with the goal being to create a prototype. Hackathons challenge people to imagine what might be possible, and gives them a chance to make it a reality.

We give our participants just 48 hours to develop their ideas, with hopes that some will develop into viable businesses. Starting Friday night when the problems and ideas are pitched and teams are formed, and ending Sunday afternoon, each team will build a prototype and present their work to the judges and the audience at the end.

Once a month leading up to the hackathon, a Med.Hack(+) Salon will be held in Saskatoon, and will alternate with Regina on a bi-weekly basis. These are informal networking events, and will feature a guest speaker on topics related to technology, healthcare, and innovation. These events are free to attend and open to the public.

Please follow our social media and sign up for our mailing list if you want to know when the next salon is being held.

PatientPrep was a project that was developed at Hacking Health Saskatoon in 2014. The technology allows patients to enter their medical history and current concerns directly into their electronic health record in a user-friendly way. In the two years since, the team has won the University of Saskatchewan Tech Venture Challenge, the Wilson Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence i3 Idea Challenge, and they were accepted into the Blueprint Health accelerator in New York. Recently, their company sold the Canadian rights to their technology to QHR Technologies for $500,000 (QHR Technologies was a sponsor of the 2014 hackathon, where they first met this team while mentoring).* Over 7500 physicians will now have access to the PatientPrep platform.

The cofounder had had the idea for a long time about how to make his family practice work better—he just needed someone with the skills to help him build it.

* We are not endorsed by QHR Technologies, the University of Saskatchewan, the Wilson Centre, Blueprint Health, nor TrueVation at this time.
