Emergency Medicine Continuous CertificationReview of the 2017 Lifelong Learning

and Self-Assessment Articles

OverviewThis course is designed to help you prepare for the ABEM Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program for ABEM certified emergency physicians. This course covers two of the MOC requirements: Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment (LLSA) and the Patient Safety LLSA. Complete both requirements in one course, or register for an individual session.

Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment (LLSA)The literature review sessions are devoted to 12 articles selected by ABEM for the “2017 Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment (LLSA) Reading List.” These articles will provide the content for the LLSA exam to be administered by ABEM. These articles will be discussed individually in three one-hour-and-fifteen minute sessions. Each faculty member will review and critique four articles to provide attendees with new information and how that information might change their approach to patient care. The key “testable” concepts within each article will also be discussed. At the conclusion of the lectures participants will have an opportunity to go on-line and take the ABEM LLSA exam.

Patient Safety LLSAThe Patient Safety LLSA is an ABEM LLSA activity developed by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) to focus on patient safety issues encountered by the emergency physician. The Patient Safety LLSA is required once during a diplomat’s ten-year certification, usually in the first five years, and also counts as one of the four LLSA tests the physician is required to take in the same five-year period.

Who Should AttendABEM diplomates preparing to meet the Emergency Medicine Continuous Certification Requirements.

Continuing Education Credit This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the American College of Emergency Physicians and New York ACEP. The American College of Emergency Physicians is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
