Dr. Kamalakar completed his residency at Newark Beth Israel in 1973, and joined the Medical Staff in 1978. He immediately took up the cause of starting pediatric hematology and oncology services at The Beth.
Dr. Kam personally lobbied Newark Beth Israel to become home to a ValerieFund Children’s Center in 1983.
Over the past 30 years, with improvements in early detection, new protocolsand the expertise of his team, Dr. Kam has seen survival rates for his pediatriccancer patients improve from 20 percent to above 80 percent. The ValerieFund at Newark Beth Israel is also home to the largest sickle cell pr ogram inNew Jersey, helping thousands of children and young adults to manage theeffects of this debilitating disease with hope and dignity.
Dr. Kam’s passion and influence have shaped the pediatric cancer programsat The Beth and touched the lives and futures of thousands of children.
He and his team provide compassionate, state-of-the-art clinical care to theyoungest residents of New Jersey while prioritizing the emotional needs ofthe children and families who rely on them.
Under his leadership, the pediatric hematology oncology team ensures the best experiences and outcomes for every patient and family who has entrusted them with their healing process.
