Please join us in welcoming our 2017-2018 Student Vice-Presidents,
Anna Gardner, a double major in Film, Photography, and Visual Arts
and Art History, and Amy Pildner, a Psychology major with a minor in
Counseling. Anna and Amy will serve on the chapter’s Executive
Committee and attend meetings and events. Phi Kappa Phi student
members voted to elect Amy and Anna as Student Vice-Presidents after
a self-nomination process. Student Vice-Presidents must have good
communication skills to represent Phi Kappa Phi at events on campus,
must be well connected to the campus, and must be creative to bring
new ideas from the student's perspective. We are excited to welcome
our new Student Vice-Presidents!
Each year, the Ithaca College chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa
Phi invites outstanding seniors to apply for selection as the chapter’s
candidate for one of the prestigious Phi Kappa Phi National Fellowships
for the first year of graduate or professional study. This year, the IC
chapter of Phi Kappa Phi received many outstanding applications for
consideration. The selected application was submitted by Cailin Harro, a
senior Biology student. We wish Cailin well as her application competes
in the society-wide competition!

The Presidential Scholar Awards are given to students who exhibit the highest level of academic achievement, as well
as exceptional interest and community service. The awards are named after the first four presidents of the Ithaca College
Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi: Shirley O. Hockett, John M. Bernard, John B. Harcourt, and M. Raquib Zaman.
Timothy Conners
Communication Studies
SHIRLEY HOCKETT SCHOLAR
Timothy is a senior studying
Communication studies in the
School of Humanities and
Sciences at Ithaca College. He
is also minoring in Finance at
the School of Business. Aside
from being an exceptional
student, Timothy is also
extremely active in both cam-
pus activities as well as outside
volunteer work. He is a current
Ithaca College Diversity Peer
Educator and serves as the
president of the debate club. In
spring 2016 Timothy was
named Ithaca College’s top
fundraising individual at its
annual Relay for Life event.
Timothy also routinely partici-
pates in Paige’s Butterfly Run
5k, which seeks to fight
pediatric cancer through
donations and funding. More
than his volunteer and
on-campus work, Timothy is
also a published author, a
celebrated motivational speaker
giving speeches all over the
country about perseverance
and service leadership, and he
plans to climb Kilimanjaro
after graduation.
Margaret Butler
Anthropology
JOHN BERNARD SCHOLAR
Margaret is a senior at Ithaca
College studying Anthropology
at the School of Humanities
and Sciences as well as minor-
ing in Environmental Studies. A
consistent member of the
Dean’s list at Ithaca College,
Margaret has presented
research at many prestigious
conferences. During her junior
year she worked on paper
focused on the John Hopkins
Fetal Collections where she
conducted research on 112
fetal skulls to determine their
identity and origin. The
research was then presented at
Ithaca College’s Whalen
Symposium. Currently Marga-
ret is working on her senior
thesis titled “Breast is Best:
Women in Ithaca, NY Reveal
the Complexities of Choosing
to Breastfeed.” The thesis aims
to research the nutritional
benefits associated with breast-
feeding for both infants and
their mothers as well as looks
at the different factors that go
into a women’s choice to
breastfeed. Margaret also
serves as both a teaching and
research assistant on campus.
Christina Tudor
Writing and Politics
JOHN HARCOURT SCHOLAR
Christina is a Writing and
Politics major in the School of
Humanities and Sciences at
Ithaca College. She is also a
Women’s and Gender Studies
minor. Christina brings with her
a wealth of experience in
writing and social justice both
on campus as well as off cam-
pus. On campus she is a
writing tutor in the writing
center at Ithaca College as
well as a contributing writer to
Ithaca’s Buzzsaw Magazine,
writing about anything from the
objectification of women to the
2016 Presidential election. Off
campus though Christina
currently serves as President
of Planned Parenthood
Generation Action in Ithaca,
NY. One her main activities in
this role is organizing events
on reproductive justice and
sexual health on campus and
in the Ithaca community. Her
previous internships include
stunts with The Institute for
Public Accuracy in Washington
D.C., as well as serving as a
political intern for Counselor
Kevin Bonavia in London.
Carson Mohler
Occupational Therapy
RAQUIB ZAMAN SCHOLAR
Carson is an Occupational
Therapy student working
towards her masters in the
School of Health Sciences
and Human Performances.
She is also a Health Policy
and Management minor. She
currently serves as the secre-
tary of Ithaca College Project
Generations. Carson is also a
committee member on the
Ithaca College Senior Class
Cabinet. During the summer
of 2015 Carson served as an
international student clinician
at Centro de Rehabilitacion,
Educacion, Capacitacion,
Estudios y Recursos, Inc. in
Ecuador. She provided Occu-
pational Therapy services
under the supervision of Itha-
ca College Occupational
Therapy Faculty and worked
hands on with Occupational
Therapy clients ranging from
age 3 to 80+ with diagnoses
of Autism, Cerebral Palsy,
Alzheimer’s, and other life
altering conditions. She has
also been named to the
Dean’s list every semester at
Ithaca College.

Spring 2017 Student Induct ion Ceremony
On March 23, 2017 we added 107 new student members to Phi Kappa Phi at the 40th Annual Spring Induction
Ceremony. At Ithaca College, the deans of each school are invited to nominate undergraduate and graduate
students for consideration. In accordance with the chapter by-laws, inductees must be of good character and
possess notable academic achievements. Juniors inducted must be in the upper 7.5% of their class, seniors
inducted must be in the upper 10% of their graduating class, and graduate students must be in the upper 10%
of all graduate and professional students.
At this year’s induction, we played two recorded messages from Phi Kappa Phi alumni, past student VP
Lisa Famularo ‘16 and 2005 Presidential Scholar winner Dominick DiOrio ’06, who offered congratulations and
shared the benefits of PKP membership with the new inductees and their families. We are very proud of our
new members, and are thrilled to welcome them to Phi Kappa Phi!

Third Annual Phi Kappa Phi Book Dr ive
This year, the Ithaca College chapter of Phi Kappa
Phi hosted its third annual Book Drive. The drive
began on Tuesday, March 7 and lasted until Friday,
March 31. During that time, 10 bins were placed
around campus in locations where students, faculty,
and staff were able to make donations. All books
collected this year were donated to the local non-profit organization Friends of Tompkins
County Public Library, whose proceeds benefit the Tompkins County Public Library,
the Finger Lakes Library System, and organizations working for literacy in Tompkins
County. In total, 356 books were collected and donated. Keep an eye out for the 4th
annual book drive, which will be held in March 2018!
