The Evanston Cowboy Days Rodeo Committee wants to thank you for your

Miss Evanston Cowboy Days Queen Contest

Eligibility Age: Contestant must be between the ages of 17 through 21, as of May 20, 2017. Residence: Contestant must reside in Uinta, Lincoln County Wyoming or Rich County Utah and

be a female resident of the United States of America. Marital Status: Contestant must never be married nor be engaged to be married nor will

publicly be engaged to be married during the course of her reign, and have no children. Contestant must not now nor never have been pregnant, nor share living arrangements with the

opposite sex in an intimate relationship. Good Character: Contestant must be of good moral character and has never committed or been

involved in an act of moral turpitude.

No Criminal Record: Contestant must not have been convicted of any crime or felony. A

background check may be conducted. The pageant reserves the right to refuse any contestants

application. If the contestant is refused entry there will be no appeal process. Contestant must not have engaged in any act (not limited to arrests/convictions/charges indecent

exposure, alcohol related incidents) past or present, which if made public, would be reasonably

likely to cause harm or damage to contestant’s reputation or to the goodwill and reputation of the

pageant. Bullying, intimidation, and/or harassment to others will not be tolerated. Infractions

with the law, public notices of questionable moral character, indecent exposure, and/or

inappropriate social media posts may result in the termination of a title. A contestant must not

have had a title revoked for any reason to be eligible for this pageant. Substance Abuse: Contestant must not use any illegal or controlled substances (other than

prescription medications and then only in the manner prescribed.) Contestant must not abuse

alcohol or other dangerous substances. Underage alcohol use will not be tolerated. Public

notices of such violations may result in the termination of a title. Ability to Perform: To the best of individual’s knowledge, there is nothing that will interfere

with her ability to compete in this contest or to perform the obligations of the pageant. Titleholder and Contractual Obligations: Contestant must not be under contractual

obligation which would interfere with her ability to participate in this contest or interfere with

her ability to perform as a titleholder. Contestant must not be a title holder of any other pageant

or be a contestant in any other pageant while holding a title with this pageant. There is no limit

to the number of times an individual can compete as long as all eligibility requirements are met.

Should a Queen contestant win their division they must wait out one year before competing

again. If a contestant is eligible to move up in an age category they may compete immediately.

Attire and Conduct: All titleholders shall dress in appropriate western apparel (including hat,

boots, belt, banners, and appropriate sleeve and skirt/dress length western clothing) for all

functions in which they are representing their title. Shirts/jackets must be at least ¾ length.

Sleeve and long sleeved for all arena appearances. Skirts/dresses must be no less than 3 inches

above the knee. Jeans with holes are not acceptable. Bright unnatural colored hair is not

acceptable. Visible body piercings and tattoos other than in the ears are not acceptable.

Appropriate personal conduct is essential. This includes no swearing, bullying, smoking,

drinking, chewing, drugs or anything of such nature.

Rules and Regulations 1) Contestant must submit the following documents in order to compete in the contest. All documents must be signed by parent/guardian and contestant and be properly completed in

order to be eligible for the contest.

a. Miss Evanston Cowboy Days Queen Contestant application form. b. Four 4 x 6 colored pictures of yourself (a close up in western attire) c. A write up about yourself for the paper. c. Agreement to Abide by Rules and Regulations and Waiver of Liability.

d. Expectation Agreement e. A $200 non-refundable Sponsor donation.

2) Contestants are required to be on time and adhere to the schedule of the contest. Tardiness will

be deducted from judge’s points. 3) Upon arrival to the location of the contest, contestants will be responsible to and under the jurisdiction of the Evanston Cowboy Days Queen Committee. 4) Contestant must have a suitable horse for the rodeo and other related events, but it need not

be the horse used in the contest.

5) Contestant shall be the only person preparing their horse on the day of the contest.

Exceptions will only be made for persons with physical limitations. This includes grooming, saddling, bridling, and warming-up their horse. This must be done on site and any coaching from the sidelines during these tasks are grounds for disqualification! 6) Parents, friends, and relatives are welcome to attend any or all activities designated and must

agree to abide by all rules and regulations. Please note all spectators attending the

horsemanship must sign a waiver. 7) Only members of the Evanston Cowboy Days Committee, Contestants and Judges are permitted in the arena area during competition. 8) If any problems occur, i.e., a tack failure or a thrown shoe from the horse, the contestant

should stop their pattern immediately and go directly to the judges in order to solve the problem. If you experience any problems and complete your pattern in the arena, the matter

will not be considered. 9) Final decision will be that of the judges; including any matter while the contestant is

competing. 10) Contestants must conduct themselves in a proper, lady-like manner, portray high moral

standards and demonstrate good sportsmanship or they may be disqualified. 11) All contestants are required to dress in full western attire. 12) All contestants are not permitted at any time during the contest or as reigning queen to

smoke, drink, or use foul language. 13) Any problems that arise should be directed to the Evanston Cowboy Days Rodeo Queen

Committee immediately. 14) The perpetual crown, leather banner, chinks, and serape are the permanent property of the

Evanston Cowboy Days Committee and the Queen is responsible to keep them in good shape. If

not when her reign is over she must pay for new ones. At end of reign she will have it dry

cleaned and returned. 15) After the coronation, each contestant, including the new Queen is expected to remain at the event location and demonstrate good behavior and sportsmanship. It is appropriate for contestants as well as the new Queen to show their appreciation for the opportunity to compete, by thanking judges, sponsors, Evanston Cowboy Days Queen Committee members

and other Association officials, who may be present, for their efforts to support and organize the event. 16) Any misconduct may be grounds for contestants to be disqualified from this contest or ineligible for future contests. 17) Any violations of these Rules and Regulations may disqualify a contestant from participation

in this contest. 18) A contestant or any individual with the intent to influence or harass may not approach a judge or

the auditor before or after any event. Action of this type will be reported to the Evanston Cowboy

Days Executive Board and Queen Coordinator and disqualification of that contestant could result and

all prizes will be seized. 19) Evanston Cowboy Days expects each Contestant to display the highest degree of sportsmanship

during the Pageant and particularly following the Coronation Ceremony. Poor sportsman-like

conduct will not be tolerated and could result in the contestant being disqualified and may affect

future eligibility in the Evanston Cowboy Days Rodeo Queen pageant. 20) The Evanston Cowboy Days Queen can only hold her title for one year unless she is under

18 and then she can wait one year and then try out again, and she cannot compete for a second

title during her reign. If you become queen and want to try out for Miss Rodeo Wyoming you

must wait until 2018 to try out. If you do Evanston Cowboy Days Committee will cover the

following expenses. a. Dues to Miss rodeo Wyoming Association

b. Miss Rodeo Wyoming contest fees

c. Transportation costs to and from Douglas, Wyoming (only)

21) Any horses that are deemed dangerous by Evanston Cowboy Days Queen Committee or the

horsemanship judges will not be allowed to compete. Dangerous is defined as bucking, rearing,

running off, or otherwise out of control. 22) Keep in mind that you will be watched at ALL times. Judges are looking for sportsmanship, friendliness and good behavior.

23) the queen director/committee and title sponsor reserve the right to cancel or revise the rules

and/ or contest depending on the number of contestants.

24) The judges are carefully selected and have been instructed to seek contestants exemplifying:

sincerity, integrity, attractiveness inside and out, intelligence, high moral standards, maturity,

public speaking skills, horsemanship ability, and knowledge of rodeo, horse science, and current

events. 25) The judges reserve the right not to award a title to any or all participants who they feel are

not deserving or qualified of being awarded said title. 26) As in all competition, there can only be one winner, but each of you are winners and

enriched individuals for participating. Please remember to practice good sportsmanship as this

should be a learning experience where you will gain skills that will benefit you for the rest of

your life. It is said that it takes a greater person to be a gracious loser than to be a winner. Each

contestant can do a lot to promote the great sport of rodeo and create further interest in the

pageant regardless of their placing.

NOTE: These rules and regulations are designed for your safety and to keep the contest running

properly and in a professional manner. If any grievances arise, either during or after the Queen contest, the matter should be brought to the attention or the Evanston Cowboy Days

Queen Coordinator.

JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL

MISS EVANSTON COWBOY DAYS QUEEN CONTEST JUDGING CATEGORIES

MODELING:

1. Attractiveness 2. Grooming, this should include neatness, cleanliness, fingernails, hair, hat, boots, and other western

apparel. 3. Posture: How the contestant carries herself is very important, the judges will be looking for

contestants to carry themselves straight and tall and exude self-confidence and poise. 4. Poise and ladylike behavior in every situation. Judges will be looking for contestants to handle

each situation that they are involved in with grace and style. 5. Western fashion sense: contestants should pick outfits that reflect fashionable and tasteful western

clothing. Judges will pay particular attention to contestant’s ability to use colors to enhance her

natural coloring and enhance appearance and eye appeal. 6. Proper fit of clothing: above all contestants should pay attention to the fit of her outfit. Outfits

should be figure flattering and altered to fit her personality. In addition, contestants should be

properly fitted for a hat so that it will flatter the face 7. Personality

PERSONALITY and APPEARANCE (on going throughout competition)

1. Intelligence and good common sense.

2. Conversational ability in varied circumstances, with an emphasis on grammar and

enunciation.

3. A good sense of humor.

4. Self-confidence, high moral standards, sincerity, and integrity.

5. Genuine interest in other people and consideration of others.

6. Self-Projection – the ability to project one’s personality, whether it is from the horseback or

appearing on stage before a crowd.

7. A happy outlook on life.

8. Promptness in keeping the pageant schedule.

9. Positive and pleasant attitude

10. Maturity.

11. The ability to clearly express ones educational backgrounds and career goals.

INTERVIEW

The judges will interview each contestant privately. Questions asked will test the contestant’s

knowledge of the pageant, professional rodeo, horsemanship, general knowledge and current

events. You never know what a judge will ask so study, study, study.

HORSEMANSHIP The purpose of this category is to select the young lady who rates the highest in: 1. Horsemanship: Control of mount and the way each situation that may occur is handled 2. Balance- ability to sit in the saddle 3. Position of hands, feet, and seat. 4. Mounting and dismounting 5. Presentation wave 6. The understanding and skill of the contestant will be judged and not the horse or equipment.

7. Each contestant will be interviewed on each of the following categories; knowledge of tack, horse

science, professional rodeo history, rodeo terminology, explanation of standard events, championship

standings, current issues of the pro rodeo circuit. 8. Showmanship - This is how well the contestant projects her personality to the audience from

horseback. The contestants will provide their own horse for the horsemanship portion. Horses will be all

around type horses that know their leads when asked correctly. When choosing a horse for a queen

competition please keep in mind it must be sound, know both leads and be able to stop with a

reasonable amount of contact. Any horses that are deemed dangerous by Evanston Cowboy Days

Queen Committee or the horsemanship judges will not be allowed to compete. Dangerous is defined

as bucking, rearing, running off, or otherwise out of control. There will be two rounds of the horsemanship competition. The first round will be on their own

horse performing the pattern provided to the contestants in the application packet. After performing

the pattern, contestant will walk to the judges and will be asked questions pertaining to

horsemanship. After visiting with judges, you will remount then exit the arena. Tack used on a horse

may not be changed between rounds. The second round of horsemanship the contestants will be

asked to switch horses, this will be done by a drawing. The contestants will be given a few minutes

to adjust stirrup length and get familiar with their tack. After switching horses, contestants will be

asked to compete in a Rail Class as a group, direction will be given by the judges and asked to walk,

trot, lope, reverse, backup etc. Contestants should remember that this will be judged on hands, feet,

seat, how the contestant handles and cues the horse, not the horses’ ability. Following the Rail work on the traded horse, the contestants will be excused to get on their own

horse, readjust their tack and do a presentation ride. When horsemanship begins, all contestants will

be quarantined from friends and family. They will have no contact unless approved by the queen

coordinator. No person other than the contestant may warm up their horse or you will be disqualified

from horsemanship. There will be no coaching from the rail. If judges suspect coaching from the

rail there may be points deducted. 10 points deducted for each violation. You may be asked to saddle and unsaddle your horse depending on the preference of the judges. SPORTSMANSHIP -The Miss Evanston Cowboy Days Queen Pageant committee expects each

contestant, parents, friends, and relatives to display the highest degree of sportsmanship

during the pageant and following the coronation. Each contestant should be mindful that they

are representing the Evanston Cowboy Days and the Sport of Professional Rodeo.

Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Unsportsmanlike conduct could result in

disqualification and affect further eligibility to compete, Sportsmanship is conformance to the rules, spirit, and etiquette of sport. Being a "good sport"

involves being a "good winner" as well as being a "good loser" Etiquette is a code of behavior that influences expectations for social behavior according to

contemporary conventional norms within a society, social class, or group. Rules of etiquette are

usually unwritten, but aspects of etiquette have been codified from time to time. Rules of etiquette

encompass most aspects of social interaction in any society, though the term itself is not commonly

used. A rule of etiquette may reflect an underlying ethical code, or it may reflect a person's fashion or

status.

RELEASE AGREEMENT

By my signature on this application, I hereby certify that I have read the regulations

governing the MISS EVANSTON COWBOY DAYS PAGEANT, and that I acknowledge

these regulations.

That I hereby grant permission to the EVANSTON COWBOY DAYS RODEO to verify

any information contained on my application.

That I hereby release the EVANSTON COWBOY DAYS from responsibility of injury or

loss to persons or property, involving me or persons, relative to my contest

appearance, sponsors, commercial and private, or the contest and all officers,

directors and member individuals and groups of the contest.

That I hereby release title, claim, and rights to photographs and/or public relations

materials involving me to the contest for use in contest promotion.

That I hereby certify that I have never been married, nor had an annulment or been

pregnant or given birth to a child.

Failure on my part to disclose this information to local officials will automatically

disqualify me from participation in any pageant. Prizes of any kind, which I may

receive, will be returned to the contest. The EVANSTON COWBOY DAYS will be

released from any and all liability resulting from my actions.

That in the event I receive the MISS EVANSTON COWBOY DAYS title, I will complete

the tenure of my title in accordance with the aforesaid regulation and in the claims

relating to the title upon the naming of my successor.

CONTEST

Check in time is 8 a.m. at the Machine Shop in Evanston (8 a.m. SHARP – ready

to go, wear something comfortable, you will change for contest at 9:30)

During this time, we will go over some rules expectations, and then have a get

together fun and learn something fun for the evening. Remember this is supposed

to be fun and not stressful. You will also draw for numbers.

At 9:30 girls will be able to get ready for competition.

10:00 Contest will begin (For this part of the contest you can wear anything you

feel comfortable in) Pants, skirt, dress….it just must be western attire no fashion

boots, must have boots and hat. NO leather or pleather allowed.

The contest will begin with introductions. Then, each girl in turn from their

number will model. After all girls have modeled they will all come back up front

and impromptu questions will be given. After the impromptu questions, the judges

will interview each contestant privately. During the interviews the other

contestants will take a basic rodeo knowledge test. These tests will only be used in

case of a tie.

After interviews the girls will have lunch with the judges and other contestants.

At this time we will know when horsemanship will start.

After lunch you will be excused to go change and warm up your horse for the

horsemanship part of the contest. The dress for this portion is black or blue jeans

without embellishments on the pockets, and a white shirt with a collar.

Horsemanship will be at the Carlson’s Arena. (Directions will be given –

anyone going to horsemanship MUST sign a release.

After horsemanship you will be dismissed until needing to be at the Machine

Shop for the coronation ceremonies.

Expectation Agreement

This expectation Agreement is between the Evanston Cowboy Days Rodeo Committee,

hereinafter referred to as the “ECDR” and ____________________________________ a Miss

Evanston Cowboy Days Rodeo Queen contestant, competing for the honor of being selected as a

Miss Evanston Cowboy Days Rodeo Queen or attendant, hereinafter referred to as “QUEEN”.

The purpose of the Expectation Agreement is to make both parents and CONTESTANTS are

aware of their responsibilities in the event a contestant is selected as QUEEN or a member of her

court. If I am selected as QUEEN or a member of her court, I agree to abide by the following

expectations during my reign. 1. I will send thank you notes to all sponsors, judges, and appropriate ECDR officials within 7 Days of the date I am crowned.

2. I will promote the Evanston Cowboy Days Rodeo and the sport of rodeo in a positive manner

at all times. 3. I will always demonstrate honesty, good sportsmanship and good behavior & etiquette. This includes but is not limited to use of Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc.

4. I may be chaperoned at my events by either parent(s), Evanston Cowboy Days Rodeo adult

member (adult is 21 years age or older) or approved chaperone. 5. I will treat animals humanely.

6. I will have a horse and appropriate tack suitable for use in the Evanston Cowboy Days Rodeo

Grand Entries, Parades, and other special events.

7. I will wear my banner, crown and proper western attire whenever I make public appearances as QUEEN, this includes the entire rodeo which you visit.

9. I will represent the Evanston Cowboy Days at local functions and fundraisers. 10. I will keep in close contact with my coordinator and will notify them if I am unable to

meet any of my obligations as QUEEN or if any problems arise. 11. All appearances must be approved by Evanston Cowboy Days Queen Coordinator. 12. I will work with all other members of the royalty together as a team; I will work closely with

the Queen Coordinator and the other royalty members to make sure we represent Evanston

Cowboy Days throughout the year. 13. I will represent the Evanston Cowboy Days in a positive and lady-like manner. No Drinking,

Smoking or Drugs. 14. No cell phones will be carried and used at official Evanston Cowboy Days events.

15. I will be able to promote and be available from September 1, 2017 through September 4,

2017, as requested. 16. I will help find prizes and help out at the next Queen coronation unless competing. 17. I will help with putting on a queen clinic sometime during my reign. 18. I will take good care of any Evanston Cowboy Days things given for the duration of my

reign; this includes but is not limited to the traveling tiara, chinks, leather banner, and serapes. 19. If I am unable to fulfill my duties as QUEEN or if I do not adhere to this Expectation Agreement, I agree to forfeit my title and return all Evanston Cowboy Days property and all

prizes I receive. 20. I will represent Evanston Cowboy Days at least 6 other rodeos, 2 other parades, and at least

3 other activities not including Cowboy Days throughout the year. If I attend another rodeo

during and Evanston Rodeo Series Rodeo I will make sure there is an Evanston Cowboy Days

representative there. 21. If I need help with expenses I will either find another sponsor or will have a fund raiser,

either to be approved by the Queen Coordinator.

22. I will available to work with the queen coordinator to help represent Evanston Cowboy Days

throughout the year. 23. If I do not follow any of these expectations, the first will be a warning and a talk with the

President of Cowboy Days and the Queen Coordinator, the second will be a special meeting with

the entire Cowboy Days Committee and the third will result in having my crown pulled and all

of my queen prizes returned including belt buckle, crown, and saddle. 23. All complaints by contestant and/or parents will be submitted in writing along with a check

in the amount of $50 to the Evanston Cowboy Days Committee, Box 458, Evanston WY 82931,

within 2 days of the contest.

As parents or guardians of the above queen contestant, I have read over all of the rules and regulations

herein and agree to abide with them and to make sure that my daughter also abides with the rules and

works with the queen coordinator and Queen. I will make this a positive experience and will abide with

the judge’s decision. Any breakage of these rules could result in my daughter relinquishing her crown or

if she did not get in and there is bad mouthing about the contest she may never be able to try out again

at the discretion of the Cowboy Days Committee.

Mission Statement

The pageant competition selects individuals to serve as official spokespersons/ambassadors

who will promote rodeo, our Agricultural Industry and our Western Traditions. A primary

outcome of the process is to provide learning opportunities for young women who compete in

the pageant and to groom young women of today for the leadership positions of tomorrow.

Important Things to Know

You MUST turn in thank you notes for all prizes you won at the contest within seven (7) days of

the contest. (May 30, 2017) These must be turned into the queen coordinator.

There will be a required meeting following the pageant location and date to be announced, will

want you dressed in queen attire with banner and crowns at this time so we can take a group

picture.

You must have a write up and picture for the program turned into the queen coordinator before

July 1, 2017.
