Kingdom Impact—Look In, Look Up, Look Out!

Hebrews 12:1-2: Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. At one time, I was an avid recreational runner. I enjoyed the time of introspection my mind went through while my body was “pounding the pavement.” Unfortunately, in my 30’s, my knees started having problems and continued to degenerate until I had them replaced. While I’m happy that I am again mobile, averaging 10K steps per day walking, the fact is that I will never again be a runner. I learned that physical activity is important and that there are other rewarding and beneficial physical activities other than running. Are you encumbered in your ministry? Is there something weighing you down? Our work in sharing Jesus’ love through education ministries is often encumbered by challenges. Sometimes we need to change the activity that we are doing. Sometimes we need to take a hard look at what we can control and what is be-yond our control to influence. Through it all, we need to discover what is most important. We can rest assured that when we look to Jesus as the “founder and perfecter of our faith,” our work for the Church WILL have Kingdom Impact. God is blessing your efforts. Yet, our work is an endurance race, with many miles to go before we hit that finish line. We invite you to The 2017 Minnesota Lutheran Education Conference being held at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato on Thursday, October 19, 2017. We pray that the conference will be a time to reener-gize you as you re-discover what is really important in your ministry work in the context of today and be “unencumbered” from whatever is weighing you down. You are receiving the program schedule, description of sectionals, registration form, and hotel information to use prior to the conference. Please note that we have sent only one copy of each to save copying and mailing cost; feel free to copy the materials for your respective personnel and/or share the conference links from our website www.mnsdistrict.org/2017-educators-conference The conference is one day only and includes a light breakfast and banquet lunch. We have partnered with

the Mankato Chamber of Commerce ( Greater Mankato!) to coordinate a badge discount with participat-

ing Mankato businesses. We encourage conference participants to stay in Mankato for dinner with long-

time friends or together with your staff after the conference.

303 After the Trinity Ruling: The New Landscape in Parental Choice in Education Frederic Hinz

In its recent Trinity Lutheran decision, the Supreme Court has reached a landmark decision which

will likely have positive and far-reaching implications for our Church and its school ministries. As a result, the government will no longer be allowed to operate as though there were two different citizenship classes in which basic benefits are granted to some (secular) but not to others (religious) under the cover of “separation of church and state”. In this session we’ll discuss the spe-cific issues dealt with in the ruling and look forward to its practical effects on our schools and churches.

Rev. Fredric Hinz is a former teacher in our Lutheran High School system. He is also a former busi-

ness owner and operator and served for 21 years as a parish pastor. The past three years he has been a member of the Minnesota South District staff acting as the Public Policy Advocate for both Minnesota North and South Districts
