지속가능한 미래를 꿈꾸는열린 과학의 장으로 여러분을 초대합니다

국립광주과학관은 자라나는 청소년들에게 과학적 호기심과 창의력을 키워주고

성인들에게는 과학기술의 중요성을 알려주는 호남거점 과학기술문화 중심기관입니다

2017년 국립광주과학관은

4차 산업혁명 등 급변하는 대내외 환경에 대비하는 능력을 갖추고

지속가능 성장 모멘텀을 튼튼히 다지는 한해였습니다

국내최초 360deg 특수영상관인 lsquo스페이스 360rsquo이 개관하였고

천체관측 및 소외지역 과학캠프를 위한 lsquo천문교육숙박동rsquo을 건립하고 있습니다

9월에는 누적관람객 200만 명을 돌파하였으며

국립법인과학관 최초 공동특별기획전인 lsquo미래도시 2030rsquo을

국립광주과학관이 중심이 되어 기획 개최하였습니다

국내외 기관협력을 통한 최신 과학기술 전시 교육 사업을 추진하고

지역사회와 소통하는 lsquo지역밀착형 후원회rsquo를 활발하게 운영하고 있습니다

국립광주과학관은 미래의 창의인재 육성과 첨단융합 과학기술 전파기관으로

자리매김 할 수 있도록 끊임없이 노력하고

지역민들과 함께 체험하고 토론하는 창의적인 공간으로 발전해 나가겠습니다

2017년 9월 12일 누적관람객 200만 번째 주인공이 된

허대환 씨(42세 광주광역시 광산구 송정동) 가족은 두

아이와 부모님 3대가 함께 과학관을 찾았다가 행운의

주인공이 되었다 허대환 씨는 ldquo어릴 적 과학잡지를 보

며 과학의 꿈을 키웠었는데 아이들이 나처럼 과학의 꿈

을 키울 수 있는 시설이 광주에 있어서 기쁘다rdquo는 소감

을 전했다

국립광주과학관은 누적관람객 200만 돌파를 통해 지역

과학문화 확산 중심 기관으로서의 저력을 보여주었다

9월 12일 누적관람객 200만 돌파

국립광주과학관-한국수력원자력의 협력으로 구축된 국내최초의 360도 영상관인 lsquo스페이스 360rsquo이

2017년 9월 25일 본격적인 운영을 시작했다 외부는 은하계 모양을 본 딴 지구 1100만 크기의 구체

형이며 12대의 프로젝터에서 투사된 영상과 111채널 오디오 시스템이 어우러진 영상관 내부는 관람

객들이 유리다리 위에서 3차원의 몰입형 가상현실을 보다 효과적으로 체험할 수 있도록 설계되었다

스페이스360은 관람객들에게 lsquo우주의 신비rsquo와 lsquo미래의 에너지rsquo영상을 선보여 5점 만점에 428점이

라는 높은 만족도를 얻었으며 우주선 모양의 국립광주과학관 건물과 조화를 이루면서 광주의 새로운

상징으로 자리 잡았다

2030미래도시

Wonderful New World

다가올 2030년 4차 산업혁명 시대를 스마트 홈(Smart Home) 안전한 거

리(Safe Street) 지속가능한 삶(Sustainable Life)이라는 3개의 큰 주제로

풀어낸 2030미래도시 특별전은 관람객들에게 첨단 과학기술로 변화될

미래를 상상해보고 꿈을 키울 수 있는 기회를 주었다

3개(광주 부산 대구) 국립법인과학관 최초로 공동기획한 이번 전시는

개막에 앞서 lsquo2030 미래에서 온 뉴스 공모전rsquo을 진행 선정된 우수작품을

전시하여 관람객 참여를 이끌어내는 한편 5차례의 특별강연과 각종 초청

행사(소외지역 학생 스리랑카 교직원 지역 유관기관 등)를 진행하여 관

람객들의 큰 호응을 얻었다

국립법인과학관들의 모든 역량을 결집시킨 2030 미래도시 특별전은 국

립광주과학관을 대외적으로 알리고 지역 거점과학관으로서의 위상을 높

이는 계기가 되었다는 점에서 큰 의미를 지닌다

교육숙박동건립 착공

국립광주과학관은 지역민의 접근성과

과학교육의 수혜성을 높여 지역 과학문화

중심기관이 되는 것을 목표로 천체관측시설과

숙박시설이 어울려진 교육숙박동 건립을 위해

2017년 12월 착공에 들어갔다

우주선 모형의 과학관과 은하계 모형인 스페이스

360과 조화를 이루어 우주정거장 형태로 건립될 예정인

교육숙박동에는 천체관측동과 강의실 실험실 및 122명이

수용 가능한 숙박시설이 설치된다

국립광주과학관은 2018년 12월 완공예정인 교육숙박동 건립을 통해

유관기관과 연계하여 다양한 과학프로그램 개발 및 운영으로 지역민에게 한

발 더 나아갈 예정이다

2016년 7월 창립된 국립광주과학관 후원회는 2017년 설

립 2년차를 맞아 본격적인 모금과 회원 친목 도모 등에 박

차를 가했다

먼저 2017년 2월 8일과 3월 22일에 각각 운영위원회와 정

기총회를 개최하여 2016년도 후원금을 결산하고 2017

년도 사업계획과 예산안을 의결middot확정하여 후원금을 활용

한 lsquo과학문화 소외지역 어린이middot청소년 초청 사업rsquo이 2017

년 처음으로 시행되었다 또한 후원회원 멤버십 카드 발행

2030미래도시 특별전 초청 후원감사의 밤 개최 등

후원회원 간 친목을 도모하고 소속감을 가질 수

있는 다양한 행사도 개최하였다

2017년 신규 회원으로는 기업회원 1곳과 개인회

원 2명이 참여해 후원회원은 51명(개인 16 기업

32 단체 3)으로 늘어났고 후원금은 61000000원

이 모아져 후원회 창립 이래 총 176000000원의 후

원금이 적립되었다

인공위성 기술이 지구를 보존하기 위하여 어떻게

활용되는지를 알리고 지구의 환경을 유지하기 위

하여 함께 고민해보고자 기획된 우주의 물 특별전

은 국립광주과학관이 소장하고 있는 우주 관련

전시품을 비롯하여 프랑스 툴루즈박물관 및 항공

우주과학관 한국항공우주연구원 나로우주센터

우주과학관 국립과천과학관 등으로부터 후원받

은 전시품 등으로 다채롭게 구성되었다

우주과학기술특별전

신화에서 과학으로 넘어오는 시대변화를 이해시키

고 고대 그리스 과학기술의 중요성 전달 및 과학적

체험의 기회를 제공하기 위하여 현대 과학의 근간이

되는 고대 그리스 과학middot기술 특별전이 기획되었다

그리스 코스타스 코사나스 박물관의 고대 그리스 과

학기술 복원middot복제품 44점과 국립중앙과학관의 체

험전시품 10점에 자체 콘텐츠를 더하여 콘텐츠를 강

화함으로써 딱딱하고 어려울 것만 같던 고대 그리스

과학의 이미지를 탈피하려는 시도를 하였다

신화를 넘어 과학으로

고대 그리스 과학middot기술 특별전

최첨단 기술의 집약체인 로봇과 인간의 공존 및 미래 상호관계를 제시

하기 위해 기획된 로봇+특별전은 lsquoDream+rsquo lsquoCity+rsquo lsquoEnjoy+rsquo

lsquoArt+rsquo lsquoepilogue 로봇과의 해피투게더rsquo의 총 5개 전시 주제로 구성

되었다 로봇 피규어 등 청middot장년층의 관심을 불러일으킬 수 있는 콘텐

츠를 비롯하여 인터렉티브 메시지 보드

등으로 로봇에 관한 의견을 공유 할

수 있도록 하여 관람객들의 호평을

얻었다 전시 이외의 lsquoIheartsRobot 콘

테스트rsquo lsquo휴머노이드 로봇 마술

공연rsquo 등의 연계 행사를 통해 관

람객들에게 풍부한 볼거리를 제공

하고 기관홍보에 기여하였다

4차 산업혁명의 중요성을 알리고 첨단 과학기술과

함께 도래할 미래를 상상하고 꿈을 키울 수 있도록

광주 부산 대구 3개 국립법인과학관이 처음으로 공

동기획한 2030미래도시 특별전은 미래의 집(Future

House) 미래의 거리(Future Street) 미래의 산업

(Future Industry) 세 가지 종류의 전시구성으로 곧

다가올 2030년을 전시하여 관람객들의 큰 호응을

얻었다

더불어 lsquo2030 미래도시 특별강연rsquo을 통해 전시에서

해소하지 못한 궁금증을 풀어내는 시간을 마련하였

는데 컴퓨터공학자 로봇공학자 전기공학자 정보

기술(IT) 전문기자 국회의원 등 각 분야의 전문가

를 강연자로 초빙하여 미래에 변화될 모습을 다양한

관점에서 통찰할 수 있는 계기를 마련하였다

기획전시

광주지방기상청과 공동주관하여 추진된 2017년

기상middot기후 사진전은 2017년(제34회) 기상middot기후

사진 공모 입상작 40점을 무료 전시하여 기후middot

환경변화에 대한 관람객의 관심과 이해 증진에

기여하였다

단순 사진전에서 탈피 lsquo일기도 그리기rsquo lsquo소망

나무rsquo 등의 체험과 이슈로 떠오른 미세먼지에 관

한 인포그래픽 전시 광주지방기상청 재능기부

강연을 추가하여 관람객 만족도 향상은 물론 광

주지방기상청과의 향후 협력기반을 마련하였다

어린이들이 그린 상상 속의 자동차를 실제

로 만들어 전시하는 세상 유일의 모터쇼를

국립광주과학관에서 개최하였다 현대자

동차와 공동주최한 제1회 브릴리언트 키즈

모터쇼는 공모전을 통해 선정된 어린이 디

자이너들의 상상 속 자동차를 실물로 제작

하였으며 사막middot하늘middot숲의 세 개의 존으로

구성되었다 총 4대의 상상자동차와 더불

어 현대자동차의 무상 제공차량도 함께 전

시하여 관람객들에게 미래의 자동차에 대

해 생각해 볼 수 있는 계기를 제공하였다

청소년들이 미래에 대해 상상하며 ICT 기반 융복합 기

술 및 첨단과학기술을 체험 할 수 있는 첨단과학기술

관인 Fureka존이 신설되었다 Future와 Eureka의 합성

어로 lsquo미래를 발견하다rsquo라는 의미를 가지고 있으며 전

시 컨셉은 과학(Science) 미래(Future) 인간(Human)

이 공존하는 과학기술과 휴머니즘 공간이다 우리생활

과 관련이 깊은 미래 첨단기술을 스토리텔링형으로

전시하였으며 lsquo21세기 르네상스를 이

끄는 3D 프린팅rsquo lsquo편리한 세상을 만드

는 로봇과 인공지능rsquo lsquo새로운 세상을 잇

는 드론rsquo lsquo지속가능한 미래를 여는 에너지

와 환경rsquo 등의 전시물을 만나볼 수 있다

2015년 4월 최초 개관한 전파체험관은 2016년 콘텐츠

보강에 이어 관람객 만족도 제고를 위하여 2017년도

에도 전시관 개선작업을 실시하였다 최신 AR 기술을

이용한 lsquo전파몬-고rsquo의 경우 전국 순회 전시가 가능하도

록 제작 되어 lsquo2030 미래도시 특별전rsquo에 활용되었으며

lsquo전파GUN 으로 우리 집을 지켜라rsquo lsquo전파 스튜디오rsquo lsquo전

파OX 퀴즈rsquo lsquo전파야 놀자rsquo lsquoVR체험존rsquo lsquo전자파 체험rsquo 등

총 6가지의 콘텐츠를 보강하여 관람객들이 더욱 새롭

고 흥미로운 경험으로 전파와 더욱 친숙해질 수 있도

록 하였다

몽골이 품은 생명의 가치를 이해하고 몽

골의 대자연을 만나보는 몽골 대초원의 동

물 특별전은 한국middot몽골 교류특별전이다

전 세계적으로 희귀middot멸종 종인 눈표범 회

색늑대 말코손바닥사슴 등 몽골자연사박

물관 소장 동물박제 28점이 전시되었다

lsquo동물들의 숨은 발자국 찾기rsquo lsquo몽골 알타

이 암각화 체험rsquo 등 3D앱과 증강현실 기법

을 이용한 ICT융합 콘텐츠 등의 최신 과학

기술과 독수리 날개 야생염소 발굽 등 자

연에서 아이디어를 얻은 과학기술로 인간

의 삶을 개선한 사례도 함께 전시하여 관

람객들에게 더욱더 의미 있고 유익한 전시

가 되도록 하였다

비어있던 4D시뮬레이터 외벽에 노벨상 수상자 및 연구분야

를 소개하는 전시물이 만들어졌다 노벨과학상의 연대표를 통

해 노벨상의 시대 흐름을 알 수 있도록 하면서 올해의 노벨상

구역은 패널로 제작하여 매년 갱신할 수 있도록 하였다 비어

있던 공간이 관람객들에게 노벨상의 가치와 의미 인류의 삶

에 미치는 영향을 알려주고 청소년들에게는 미래 과학자의 꿈

과 희망을 심어주는 공간으로 재탄생하게 되어 의의가 크다

관람객들의 효과적인 전시물 체험과 과학적 원리 이해를

도모하기 위하여 2관 1존 lsquo생활 속에 과학관rsquo 내 설치된 야

구 체험 전시물과 스포츠 가상체험 전시물의 개선을 실시

하였다 최신 소프트웨어 및 영상장비로 현실감 있는 화면

을 구현하였고 쉽게 체험하고 즐길 수 있는 체험형 콘텐츠

로 스포츠 체험에 대한 몰입도를 향상시키고 체험 만족도

를 충족시킬 수 있었다

과학관 인기 콘텐츠인 lsquo로봇댄스 공연rsquo에 스스로 사회

를 볼 수 있는 얼굴로봇과 연동이 가능한 댄스로봇이

추가되었다 이를 통해 얼굴로봇이 자체적으로 공연의

사회를 진행할 뿐만 아니라 비트박스 등의 개인기를 선

보여 관람객의 관심과 이목을 더욱 집중시키는 효과를

얻을 수 있었다 더불어 아이들이 좋아하는 5가지 곡을

추가하여 뜨거운 공연 열풍을 이어 나갈 수 있었다

4차 산업혁명의 융합된 힘이 미래의 과학 꿈나무들에

게 희망의 빛으로 나타나기를 기대하는 의미의 메시지

를 전달하는 미디어아트 작품인 ldquo과학 시작에서 미래

까지rdquo가 신규 콘텐츠로 추가되었다 과학과 예술의 융

합 과학적 상상력과 창의력 미래에 대한 도전 정신 고

취라는 스토리라인으로 구성되어 있다

시설물의 전시물화 사업의 일환으로

평범한 계단에 시청각적 재미요소와

빛 middot 소리 과학을 더하여 노래하는 과

학계단을 구축하였다 계단의 아래 부

분은 사람의 움직임을 감지하여 오르

내릴 때마다 LED 빛과 피아노 음계 소

리가 나도록 하였고 계단 전체 중 검

정건반 계단에 원소(원자번호 1번 수

소(H) ~ 35번 브로민(Br))의 선스펙트

럼(Line Spectrum)을 넣어 관람객들

의 과학적 사고와 건강한 신체활동을

증진시킬 수 있도록 하였다

빛과 소리의 실험 공간인 소리 빛 lt3D 홀로그램

체험관gt은 가시광선의 네 가지 색을 추출하여 고

유의 파장과 에너지를 3D 홀로그램 기술로 구현해

직접 느껴볼 수 있도록 구성된 공감각적 체험 공간

이다 홀로스크린에 추출된 일곱 가지 색의 에너지

를 손으로 에어탭(인터랙션)하면 그 색이 가진 파

장의 성격에 따라 소리가 나며 역동적으로 반응하

는 모습을 체험 할 수 있다

현대 과학기술 발전의 근간이 되는 근대과학기술

의 발전사를 한눈에 볼 수 있는 근대과학기술관이

구축되었다 천문학 물리학 화학 생물학 전자기

학 분야의 역사적 사건 및 인물을 소개하는 한편

영국의 과학기술자인 Roger Brown이 기증한 근

대~현대 경도계 및 방독면을 전시하여 과학기술이

발전함에 따라 우리가 사는 세상이 어떻게 변화하

는지 느낄 수 있도록 구성하였다

현대자동차에서 총 9점(상상자동차 7대 전기차(아이오닉)

가솔린차(아반떼))의 전시middot교육용 차량을 기증받았다 이 기

증품들은 2018년 1월부터 시작될 제2회 브릴리언트 키즈

모터쇼에 무료로 전시될 예정이다 아이들의 상상력으로 그

린 자동차를 실물로 제작해 관람객이 직접 타보고 상상자동

차에 숨겨진 과학적 원리를 체험 할 수 있도록 하여 미래자

동차 관련 과학기술 인재발굴을 위한 전시물로 활용할 예정

이다

점을 비롯하여 약 5천여점의 다양한 국내middot외래

종 건조 곤충표본을 김원기(기증자)씨로부터

수증 받았다 향후 과학기술자료로 전시 교육

행사 등에 활용될 예정이며 lsquo곤충생태관rsquo 건립

등 과학관 역할 강화와 과학기부문화를 활성화

하였다 점에서 매우 의미가 깊은 수증 건이다

로봇을 활용하여 청소년들의 컴퓨팅 사

고력과 창의력을 향상시켜주는 교육프

로그램이다 4차 산업혁명의 핵심 기술

인 ICT(정보통신기술)을 lsquo레고 WeDorsquo lsquo엔

트리rsquo lsquo레고 마인드스톰 EV3rsquo로 쉽고 재

미있게 배울 수 있어 큰 인기를 얻고 있

다 ICT랩 교육은 당일 및 정규과정으로

운영되고 있다

바이오 약학 생명공학 분야의 기초지식

을 배울 수 있는 교육프로그램으로 교육

생들이 직접 실험기구를 이용하여 약물

의 기능 및 효과 딸기 DNA 추출 및 분석

등의 실험을 체험할 수 있다 교육생들은

평소 쉽게 접하기 힘든 첨단 의약생명공

학 분야를 경험해 볼 수 있다

국내 과학관 중 유일하게 범죄수사공간을 가상

구축하여 과학수사에 활용되는 여러 과학적 원

리를 학습하는 교육프로그램이다 교육생들은

사실적으로 재현된 사건현장을 방문 과학수사

의 과정과 원리를 이해하고 체험해 볼 수 있다

2017년에는 자외선 지문 족적 혈흔 등을 주제

로 구성한 lsquo출동 CSI 과학수사대rsquo 정규과정을 운

영하였다

ICT랩 바이오랩

가시광선 적외선 자외선 등 다양한 빛의

종류와 성질을 재미있는 실습과 수업을 통

해 이해하고 알아보는 교육프로그램이다

2017년에는 간이분광기 편광상자 제작 망

원경 등의 다양한 실습을 통해 빛과 가까워

질 수 있는 탐구학습 교육 프로그램을 운영

하였다


손이 베이지 않는 안전한 톱날이 탑재된 소

형 목공기계를 이용하여 나무합판을 잘라

공작해보는 공방형 테마교실이다 LED 무

드등 똑딱똑딱 시계 태엽자동차 등 다양한

목공체험 프로그램을 운영하였다


창의공작소

빛탐구실

CSI 과학수사대

의학 및 관련 기초과학에 대한 흥미를 일깨

우고 과학자의 꿈을 키워주고자 개발된 교

육프로그램이다 정교하고 실감나는 인체

모형이 비치된 수술실을 테마로 하여 순환

계 호흡계 골격계 등의 인체 시스템에 대

해 배우고 심장 치아 등의 신체기관을 주

제로 한 의학 기초지식을 습득할 수 있다

무한상상실

최근 제4차 산업혁명으로 각

광받는 3D프린터의 작동원리 및

종류 활용사례를 알아보고 구글

스케치업 프로그램을 사용하여 아

이디어를 모델링으로 구현하고 설

계물을 출력해보는 프로그램이다


잉크 대신 가느다란 플라스틱이 나오는

3D펜을 이용하여 공간에 그림을 그려

3D 작품을 만들 수 있는 교육프로그램

으로 액세서리 장난감 등을 누구나 손

쉽게 만들 수 있다

분야의 콘텐츠로 기획middot운영하였다

3D프린터 3D펜 목공 교육을 융합한

STEAM형 주제를 팀 프로젝트 방식으로 해

결하여 협동심을 배양하는 동시에 창의적이

고 다양한 아이디어를 발굴하고 공유할 수

차이는rsquo 등의 프로그램을 진행하였다

첨단과학기술에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히고 이공계 관련 진로 분

야에 대한 심화 탐색을 통해 미래과학기술인재로 거듭날 수 있

도록 돕는 견학형 멘토링 프로그램이다 직접 연구소를 방문하

여 교수 강연부터 이공계 대학 선배와의 만남까지 한번에 경험

할 수 있는 종합middot심화프로그램으로 이공계 진로를 꿈꾸는 학생

들에게 도움을 주고 있다

현장에서 활동하고 있는 연구원을 직접 만나 관련 전공 및 직업

에 대해 알아보고 기초과학 분야 실험middot실습을 해볼 수 있는 프로

그램이다 이공계 분야의 진로에 대한 궁금증을 가진 학생들이

진로선택에 대한 흥미와 이해의 폭을 넓힐 수 있도록 하여 좋은

반응을 얻고 있다

물리 화학 생명공학 전자공학 로봇공학 등 각 분야의 이공계

박사들과 함께하는 심층 과학탐구활동으로 과학에 대한 이해와

4월 과학의 달 기념으로 청소년 및 온가족이 함께 즐기고 체험할 수

있는 봄 계절과학축제를 개최하였다 61점의 식물 middot 곤충표본 멸종

위기 나비 middot 야생화 사진 등의 전시와 쌍별귀뚜라미 갈색거저리 애

벌레 등 식용곤충을 시식해볼 수 있도록 구성하였다 또한 스마트폰

현미경을 이용한 식물과 곤충의 프레파라트 관찰하기 트레싱지에

봄 식물 그리기 등의 체험행사로 생물다양성 보호와 가치의 중요성

을 제시하였다

개관 4주년을 맞이하여 과학과 문화 middot 예술이 복합된 가을 과학문화

ldquoThe Romantic Science 별+우주=미래를 보다rdquo

크리스마스를 맞아 뮤지컬 「베티의 과학여행」 공연을 상영하였다

관람객들이 뮤지컬에 직접 참여하여 뉴턴의 운동법칙이 우리 일상

과 어떤 관계가 있는지 체험할 수 있도록 구성되었으며 과학을 주

제로 한 뮤지컬 공연은 지방에서는 흔치 않기 때문에 관람객들에게

과학축제

과학과 발명을 친근하게 느낄 수 있도록 전시 강연 교육 등 다양한 프

로그램으로 구성된 1일 과학문화체험 행사를 광주 지역 시민을 대상으

로 2일에 걸쳐 진행하였다 lsquo작은 씨앗의 무한한 잠재력을 찾아서rsquo를 주

제로 한 전문가 강연 lsquo2030 미래도시 특별전rsquo 관람 lsquo반짝 마법의 가로

등 점핑 창의력rsquo 등의 체험프로그램으로 구성된 행사에서 200명의 학

부모 학생들이 함께 즐거운 과학체험의 기회를 가질 수 있었다

2017 광주과학발명아카데미

lsquo꿈이 시작되는 과학문화 미래를 디자인하다rsquo를 주제로 개최된 2017 광

주과학문화축전은 학생과 시민들에게 생활 속 즐거운 과학체험 기회를

제공하고 과학문화를 전파하는 과학체험의 장이 되었다 lsquo과학체험middot놀이

마당rsquo 다양한 탐구와 실험에서 가족 간 협력을 통해 과학 원리를 경험하

고 터득하는 lsquo더불어 탐구마당rsquo IT퓨전 국악과 전자바이올린 등의 다채

로운 행사를 선보인 lsquo공연마당rsquo 등 총 6개 영역 130여개 부스에서 다양

한 행사를 운영하여 학생과 학부모 시민들에게 큰 즐거움을 안겨주며

참여자들에게 큰 호응을 얻었다

2017 광주과학문화축전

한국방송통신전파진흥원과 공동주최한 lsquo2017전파EXPO -

세상을 연결해 주는 전파rsquo는 미래의 주역인 청소년들에게

전파를 체험 할 수 있는 다양한 기회를 제공하여 전파에 대

한 이해와 탐구심을 고취시켰다 사전행사였던 lsquo청춘氣UP

토크콘서트 『청춘해』rsquo에서는 김경진 국회의원 민형배 광

산구청장 이흥노 GIST 연구원장 조숙경 과학문화전시본

부장이 패널이 되어 lsquo알면 쓸모 있고 신기한 4차 산업혁명

(알쓸신사)rsquo을 주제로 토크콘서트를 진행하여 청춘들에게

큰 호응을 얻은 한편 본 전시에서는 전파 관련 교육 middot 전시

middot 공연 등 총 44개의 다채로운 프로그램이 진행되어 다양

한 연령대의 공감을 얻으며 과학적 지식을 전파하는 과학

문화 교류의 장 역할을 훌륭히 수행하였다

국립광주과학관은 국가를 위해 희생 middot 공헌하신 분들의 공훈

과 나라사랑 정신을 선양하고 보훈문화를 확산하기 위하여 6

월 호국 middot 보훈의 달을 맞아 광주지방보훈청과 공동으로 「과

학+ 나라사랑 페스티벌」 행사를 개최하였다 lsquo태극기 나라사

랑 큰나무 부채만들기rsquo lsquo손도장 찍기rsquo를 비롯하여 3D펜 증강

현실 색칠 등의 여러 체험프로그램을 운영하여 보훈문화를 과

학과 함께 풀어내었다

관람객들이 천체관측차량인 스타카에서 도심 속 밤하늘 별

자리와 태양계 행성을 관측할 수 있도록 lsquo야간 천체관측 프

로그램rsquo을 운영하였다 망원경을 이용한 천체관측방법 계

절별 별자리 설명 등의 이론과 실제 천체망원경을 통한 달

태양계 행성 및 별자리 등의 관측이 어우러져 관람객들의

천체에 관한 관심과 흥미를 높였다

찾아가는 천체관측

다양하고 쉬운 주제의 과학강연으로 지역 과학문화 확산에 기

달과 동기 부여를 위해 개최된 과학스쿨은 2008년 GIST에서

처음 개최된 이후 10년째 이어진 강연이다 2017년은 국립광

주과학관과 GIST가 공동주관하여 상상홀(국립광주과학관)과

오룡관(GIST)에서 각각 6회씩 개최되었으며 올해에는 11월

특별강연을 더하여 총 13회 진행되었다

지역 과학기술계 현안을 논의하고 대안 모색을 위해 개최된 필 사이

언스 포럼은 2017년 한 해 lsquo청색기술rsquo과 lsquo노벨과학상rsquo을 주제로 2회

에 걸쳐 열렸다 제5회 lsquo청색기술 비전과 함께 하는 광주의 미래rsquo에

서는 청색기술 주창자인 이인식 문화창조아카데미 총감독의 기조

발제와 문승현 GIST 총장 이강세 광주MBC 사장 등 지역 연구계와

언론계 정책산업계 인사들이 토론에 나섰다 처음으로 지자체(광주

광역시)로부터 예산을 후원받아 지역 과학기술단체(과총 광주전남

지역연합회)와 함께 개최한 이번 포럼에는 박주선 국회 부의장과 윤

장현 광주광역시장 등이 참석해 눈길을 끌었다

제6회는 lsquo호남 노벨을 만나다rsquo라는 주제로 임경순 포스텍 과학문화

연구센터장의 기조발제와 이석봉 대덕넷 대표 박정환 광주광역시

미래산업정책관 등의 토론으로 진행됐다 이 날 토론에서는 우리나

라에서 노벨과학상 수상자가 배출되지 않는 이유에 대해 교육 사

회 문화분야 등에서 다각적인 분석과 대안이 제시되어 열띤 토론을

펼졌다

권 28개 과학관 중 전남과학교육원과 전북과학교육원에

서 과학강연과 라이브공연을 진행하였다 12월 16일에는

크리스마스 특집으로 과학관에서 산타선물나눔 페이스

페인팅 팝페라공연 등을 운영하여 볼거리 풍성한 연말을

연출하였다 2017년 처음으로 기획된 필 사이언스 콘서트

는 호남권 과학관 교류협력 강화를 위한 국립광주과학관

제1기 홍보소통단 lsquo청소년 루체스타rsquo

국립광주과학관 개관 이래 최초의 청소년 홍보소통단

인 lsquo루체스타rsquo는 과학관 인지도를 높이고 소통하는 과학

관으로서의 인식 제고를 목표로 기획되었다 홍보소통단

의 명칭인 lsquo루체스타(lucestar)rsquo는 광주 지역 특성화 테마

인 lsquo빛rsquo을 의미하는 luce(it light)와 별을 뜻하는 Star의 조

합어로 lsquo빛나는 별rsquo을 의미하며 과학과 예술적 소양을 갖

춘 융합형 인재를 상징하고 있다 모집된 총 28명의 청소

년(초등~중학생)들은 홍보소통단으로 약 3개월 동안 활

동하면서 총 355건의 홍보활동(온middot오프라인) 실적과 과

학관 각종 행사에 87라는 높은 참석률을 보였다 홍보

소통단에게는 가족 구성원을 포함한 전시 무료 입장 단

기 과학교육 할인 등의 다양한 혜택이 제공되었으며 우

수 활동 단원을 선정하여 활동 인증서 및 상장이 수여되

었다

2017년도과학문화소외지역어린이ㆍ청소년초청사업

2016년 7월 창립된 국립광주과학관 후원회는 설립 첫 해년도 모

금된 후원성금을 토대로 2017년 8월 본격적인 과학문화 확산사

업을 시작했다 지리적 middot 재정적 여건 등으로 인하여 상대적으로

과학문화 기반이 취약한 전라남도 5개 지역(강진 신안 완도 진

도 해남)을 선정하였고 해당지역 교육지원청으로부터 추천된 7

We invite you to an open stage of science where we dream of sustainable future

Gwangju National Science Museum is a central institute of Honam for scientific technology education and culture that fosters scientific curiosity and creativity of growing youths and teaches importance of science to adultsIn 2017 Gwangju National Science Museum achieved two million cumulative visitors in September by hosting the first joint special exhibition of three national science museums called lsquoFuture City 2030rsquoWe have prepared the groundwork to become a central museum of science and culture by opening the nationrsquos first special 360-degree screening center called lsquoSpace 360rsquo and constructing Education and Accommodation Building for stellar observation and science camp in neglected regionsWhile constantly working towards an institute that shares advanced and convergent scientific technologies with the future generation in the coming era of fourth industrial revolution Gwangju National Science Museum will provide a space for experience discussion and creation of local residents

Highlight 2017

Achieved two million cumulative visitors on September 12th

On September 12th of 2017 Dae-Hwan Heo (42 years old Songjeong-dong Gwangsan-gu Gwangju) became the lucky two millionth visitor when he brought his two children and parents Mr Heo said ldquoI remember reading science magazines as a child and I am very glad that Gwangju has such a museum where children can build science dreamsrdquoGwangju National Science Museum showed its strength as a central place for science and culture by achieving two million cumulative visitors

Nationrsquos first 360-degree screening center lsquoSpace 360rsquolsquoSpace 360rsquo was opened on September 25th 2017 as the nationrsquos first 360-degree screening center built by collaboration of Gwangju National Science Museum and Korea Hydro amp Nuclear Power Corporation Its exterior has a spherical shape that resembles the galaxy about 11000000th the size of Earth The interior has 12 projectors for screening and an 111-channel audio system designed to allow visitors have more effective experience of intense 3-dimension virtual reality while standing on top of a glass bridge Space 360 has received a high average score of 428 on a 5-point scale from visitors by screening videos like

lsquoMystery of the Universersquo and lsquoFuture Energyrsquo It has become a symbolic place of Gwangju that creates harmony with the spacecraft-shaped building of Gwangju National Science Museum

2030 Future City Wonderful New WorldThe 2030 Future City Special Exhibition used three themes namely Smart Home Safe Street and Sustainable Life to present the coming era of fourth industrial revolution in year 2030 This was an opportunity for visitors to imagine drastic future changes that would come with the advancement of scientific technologies This exhibition was jointly conducted by three national science museums (Gwangju Busan and Daegu) lsquo2030 Future News Contestrsquo took place prior to starting of this exhibition to display selected works On the one hand five special lectures and various invitational events (students in the neglected region teaching staffs from Sri Lanka related institutions in the region etc) received favorable response from visitors The 2030 Future City Special Exhibition is a meaningful event that combined capabilities of all national science museums and elevated the status of Gwangju National Science Museum as a central science museum of the region

Construction of Education and Accommodation BuildingTo become a central institute for science and culture by increasing accessibility of residents and benefits of science education Gwangju National Science Museum commenced the construction of Education and Accommodation Building in December 2017 This building is comprised of stellar observation facility and accommodation facility The building resembles an international space station to match the spacecraft shape of the science museum and the galaxy shape of Space 360 The building will include a stellar observation facility lecture rooms laboratories and an accommodation facility for 122 guests Through the construction of Education and Accommodation Building expected to be completed in December 2018 Gwangju National Science Museum plans to develop and operate various science programs in connection with other institutions

Operation of Gwangju National Science Museum Aid Association in 2017Founded in July 2016 Gwangju National Science Museum Aid Association started to raise fund and promote membership events during the second year The operation committee and general meeting were held on February 8th and March 22th of 2017 to settle the donations of 2016 and decide the budget plan for 2017 lsquoProject on invitation of children and youths in neglected regions of science and culturersquo was launched in 2017 Various other events were hosted for members such as issuance of membership cards invitation to the 2030 Future City Special Exhibition and Supportersrsquo Night One company and two individuals joined as new members in 2017

increasing the number of members to 51 (16 individuals 32 companies and three organizations) Annual donation of 61000000 won was added to make total donation of 176000000 won ever since the foundation

The Robot+ Special Exhibition was planned out as an opportunity to exhibit and experience robots made using cutting-edge technologies to present the possibility of coexistence and mutual relationship with human beings Five themes of the exhibition included lsquoDream+rsquo lsquoCity+rsquo lsquoEnjoy+rsquo lsquoArt+rsquo and lsquoEpilogue Happy Together with Robotsrsquo Contents like robot figures videos and dioramas attracted attention of the young age group and visitors loved the participatory communication space (interactive message board) where they shared opinions on robots Many related events such as lsquoIheartsRobot Contestrsquo lsquoSF Taehu Man-controlled Robot Road Showrsquo and lsquoHumanoid Robot Magic Showrsquo offered great visual attractions to visitors

Water in Space ndash Earth Looked from a SatelliteKorea-France Special Exhibition on Space Science and Technology

The Water in Space Special Exhibition was intended to show how artificial satellites are used to preserve Earth and think about how to protect the environment This exhibition displayed various space exhibits of Gwangju National Science Museum as well as exhibits provided by Toulouse Museum and Air and Space Museum of France Space Science Hall in Naro Space Center of Korea Aerospace Research Institute and Gwacheon National Science Museum

Beyond Mythology to ScienceSpecial Exhibition of Ancient Greek Science and Technology


The Special Exhibition of Ancient Greek Science and Technology was prepared as an opportunity to understand timely transition of mythology to science inform the importance of ancient Greek science and offer an experienceOriginal contents were added to 44 restored and reproduced exhibits from the Kostas Kotsanas Museum of Greece and 10 experiential exhibits of National Science Museum attempting to deviate from the rigid and difficult image of ancient Greek science

The splendor of cloud wind and sunlight2017 Weather and Climate Photo Exhibition


The 2017 Weather and Climate Photo Exhibition was jointly conducted with Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration This was a free exhibition of 40 exhibits that received an award at the 2017 (34th) Weather and Climate Photo Contest The exhibition enhanced interest and understanding of visitors in climate and environmental changes Instead of simply being a photo exhibition various other events like lsquoDrawing Weather Chartrsquo and lsquoTree of Hopersquo experiences particular matter infographics display and gift-sharing lecture of Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration were added to increase satisfaction of visitors and prepare the groundwork for future collaboration with Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration

The 2030 Future City Special Exhibition was the first joint exhibition planned by three national science museums in Gwangju Busan and Daegu for the purpose of informing the importance of fourth industrial revolution and imagining the future of advanced science and technology Three exhibition themes including Future House Future Street and Future Industry received favorable responses from visitors The lsquo2030 Future City Special Lecturersquo was offered to resolve curiosity of visitors Experts of different areas including computer engineers robot engineers electrical engineers IT reporters and members of the National Assembly were invited as lecturers to provide an insight into the future from various perspectives

lsquoImaginary Vehicles of Child Designers into RealityrsquoSpecial Exhibition at 1st Brilliant Kidsrsquo Motor Show

Gwangju National Science Museum hosted the one and only motor show in the world that displays vehicles made from imaginations of children The 1st Brilliant Kidsrsquo Motor Show was jointly hosted with Hyundai Motor Company Award-winning imaginary vehicles of child designers were made into actual vehicles and the exhibition took place in three zones including desert sky and forest In addition to four imaginary vehicles free exhibit vehicles were provided by Hyundai Motor Company Visitors had a chance to think about future vehicles

Meeting Value of Life and Grand Nature of MongoliaSpecial Exhibition of Animals in the Great Plains of Mongolia Return of Eagle No 106

The Special Exhibition of Animals in the Great Plains of Mongolia was a special exchange between Korea and Mongolia intended to understand value of life in Mongolia and meet its grand nature Animal stuffed specimens of 28 rare species owned by Mongolian Natural History Museum such as snow leopard gray wolf and moose The exhibition was more meaningful and beneficial to visitors by presenting ICT contents combining augmented reality technique and 3D apps called lsquoFinding Hidden Footsteps of Animalsrsquo and lsquoMongolian Altai Rock Carvingsrsquo and examples of scientific technology based on ideas found in nature such as eagle wings and wild goat hoofs

Fureka Zone was newly created as an advanced scientific technology hall where youths can imagine the future while experiencing convergent ICT and advanced science Fureka is a compound word of Future and Eureka and thus means lsquoDiscovering the futurersquo The exhibition concept is a humanistic storytelling place where science future and human beings coexist and advanced future technologies deeply related to our daily lives are exhibited There are exhibits like lsquo3D Printing that Leads the 21st Century Renaissancersquo lsquoRobot and Artificial Intelligence Making Convenient Worldrsquo lsquoDrone Connecting to the New Worldrsquo and lsquoEnergy and Environment for the Sustainable Futurersquo

Radio Wave Experience Hall was first opened in April 2015 After adding contents in 2016 improvements were made on the hall in 2017 to increase satisfaction of visitors lsquoWave-mon GOrsquo was made using the latest AR technology for nationwide tour exhibitions and used during lsquothe lsquo2030 Future City Special Exhibitionrsquo Six new contents including lsquoProtecting My House with Radio Wave Gunrsquo lsquoRadio Wave Studiorsquo lsquoPropagation OX Quizrsquo lsquoLetrsquos Play Radio Waversquo lsquoVR Experience Zonersquo and lsquoElectromagnetic Wave Experiencersquo were added to offer new and exciting experiences to visitors

A dance robot was added as a link to the face robot which plays the role of an MC during lsquoRobot Dance Performancersquo in Science Hall The face robot not only works as the MC of the performance but also shows off its talents like beatboxing attracting greater attention of the audience Five favorite songs of children were also added to further increase the excitement of the performance

Phil Science Art WallldquoStart and Future of Sciencerdquo

A new media art work titled ldquoStart and Future of Sciencerdquo was added This work delivers a message that wishes for power of fourth industrial revolution to influence future scientists It has a storyline that includes convergence of science and art scientific imagination creativity and challenging mind towards the future

Improvements on Sports Experience Exhibits


Improvements were made on baseball experience exhibits and virtual sports experience exhibits in lsquoLife Science Hallrsquo of Hall 2 Zone 1 to help visitors effectively experience and understand scientific principles Realistic screens were made using the latest software programs and video equipment Experiential contents helped visitors get immersed into sports experience and gain satisfaction

Singing Science Stairs

As a part of the project aiming to transform facilities into exhibits Singing Science Stairs were made by adding visual and auditory elements light and sound to ordinary stairs Bottom parts of stairs were made to detect footsteps of people and create LED light and piano chord sound Line spectra of elements (Hydrogen (H) of atomic number 1 ~ Bromine (Br) of atomic number 35) were added to black colored stairs to enhance scientific thinking of visitors

Meet Nobel the City of the WorldLocation Hall 2 Zone 2

A new exhibit introducing Nobel Prize winners and their research areas was made on the outer wall of 4D simulator that used to remain empty The timeline of Nobel Prizes in Sciences displays the timely flow of Nobel Prizes and there is a special panel to display Nobel Prizes of This Year This is meaningful because an empty space was transformed into a space that informs visitors about the value meaning and influence of Nobel Prizes in human life and offers dream and hope to future scientists

Sound and Light3D Hologram Experience Hall


lt3D Hologram Experience Hallgt is a space to conduct experiments on light and sound This synesthetic experience space used 3D hologram technology to create unique wavelengths and energies by extracting four colors from visible light You can make different sounds and dynamic responses according to wavelengths of 7 colors of energy shown on the hologram screen by tapping (interacting with) each color

Modern Science and Technology Hall

Modern Science and Technology Hall was built to present the development history of modern science and technology which set the groundwork for contemporary science and technology Historical events and famous figures of astronomy physics chemistry biology and electromagnetics are introduced here Modern and contemporary hardness testers and gas masks donated by an English scientist named Roger Brown are displayed to show how our world changes according to the development of scientific technologies

In September 2017 the museum received donation of about 5000 domestic and foreign dried insect samples from Won-Gi Kim (donor) including 7 entities of Korean jewel beetles (natural monument no 496) The donated samples will be used for exhibitions education and events in the future Significance of this donation is that it strengthened the role of science museum and helped vitalize science donation culture through construction of lsquoInsect Ecology Hallrsquo

Donation of Exhibition and Education Vehicles by Hyundai Motor Company

Hyundai Motor Company donated 9 vehicles for exhibition and education (7 imaginary vehicles an electric vehicle (Ionic) and a gasoline vehicle (Avante)) These vehicles will be exhibited at the 2nd Brilliant Kidsrsquo Motor Show that starts in January 2018 Imaginary vehicles drawn by children were made into actual vehicles so that visitors can take a ride and experience scientific principles hidden in imaginary vehicles They will be used as exhibits to foster scientific talents for future vehicles

CSI Crime Scene Investigation


This is the one and only education program among science museums of Korea that teaches various scientific principles used during scientific crime investigation Participants visit reproduced crime scenes to experience the process and principle of scientific investigation A regular course titled lsquoCSI Crime Scene Investigationrsquo featuring UV ray fingerprint footprint and bloodstain was operated in 2017

Medi + Lab


This is an education program developed to foster dreams of children to become scientists and help them get interested in medical and basic sciences With a themed operation room equipped with realistic human body models participants can learn about human body systems such as the circulatory system respiratory system and skeletal system They can also gain basic medical knowledge related to body organs like the heart and teeth

Bio Lab


This is an education program that teaches basic knowledge in the fields of bio pharmacy and bioengineering Participants can conduct experiments on functions and effects of drugs and extraction and analysis of strawberry DNA using experimental apparatus They can access advanced medical pharmaceutical and bioengineering technologies that cannot be found easily in daily life

This is a themed crafting class that makes crafts by cutting plywood using small wood working machines with safe blades that do not cut hands Various wood working programs were operated namely LED mood light tick-tock clock and self-moving spring car

Spring Science Festival was hosted for youths and families to celebrate Science Month of April exhibiting 61 exhibits of plant and insect samples and photos of endangered butterflies and wild flowers Tasting of edible insects like two-spotted cricket and mealworm was also included There were other events showing the importance and value of protecting biodiversity such as observation of plant and insect preparat using smart phone microscope and drawing spring plants on tracing papers

lsquo2017 Radio Wave Expo ndash Radio Wave Connecting the Worldrsquo jointly hosted with Korea Communications Agency inspired understanding and inquisitiveness of youths in radio wave by offering various experiences The preliminary event called lsquoYouth Energy Up Talk Concert Cheongchunhaersquo was a talk concert on lsquoUseful Things to Know About Fourth Industrial Revolutionrsquo The panel was comprised of Gyeong-Jin Kim a member of the National Assembly Hyeong-Bae Min the Head of Gwangsan-gu Heung-Noh Lee the Director of GIST Research Institute and Suk-Gyeong Cho the Head of Science and Culture Exhibition Headquarters The main exhibition involved 44 education exhibition and performance programs related to radio wave which aroused sympathy of different age groups and played the role of spreading scientific knowledge

Phil Science Forum intended to discuss the current issues of the regional science community was held twice in 2017 on topics of lsquoBlue Technologyrsquo and lsquoNobel Prizes in Sciencersquo The 5th forum on lsquoFuture of Gwangju with the Vision of Blue Technologyrsquo was started with the keynote speech by In-Sik Lee the General Director of Culture Creation Academy and an advocate of blue technology Regional research press and policy personnel participated in the discussion including Seung-Hyeon Moon the President of GIST and Gang-Se Lee the CEO of Gwangju MBC This forum was hosted with a regional science organization (Gwangju and Jeonnam Federation of KOFST) and funded by the local government (Gwangju) for the first time Ju-Seon Park the Vice President of the National Assembly and Jang-Hyeon Yoon the Mayor of Gwangju participated in the event The 6th forum on lsquoHonam Meeting Nobel Prizesrsquo was started with the keynote speech by Gyeong-Sun Lim the Director of POSTECH Science Culture Research Center The discussion included Seok-Bong Lee the CEO of Daedeok Net and Jeong-Hwan Park the Future Industry Policy Officer of Gwangju Participants showed heated discussion on reasons why Korean scientists have not been receiving any Nobel Prizes in science providing multilateral analyses and perspectives in the fields of education society and culture

lsquoVisiting Phil Science Concertrsquo was hosted at science museums in Honam region as a part of the joint project on network expansion of science museums in Honam Live performances combining science lectures and music concerts were held in Jeollanamdo Science Education Institute and Jeollabukdo Science Educatoin Institute among 28 science museums of Honam region On December 16th Christmas events such as gift sharing of Santa Claus face painting and operatic pop performance were operated Phil Science Concert was first planned out in 2017 as a new attempt of Gwangju National Science Museum to strengthen the Honam science museum network through exchange and cooperation of science museums

lsquoLucestarrsquo is the first youth public relations and communication group formed ever since the opening of Gwangju National Science Museum This group was intended to increase and improve public awareness of the science museum The name of the group lsquoLucestarrsquo is a compound word of luce (light) and star Meaning lsquoshining starrsquo the group name symbolizes convergent human resources with scientific and artistic knowledge The group selected 28 youths (elementary and middle school students) who participated in 355 public relations activities (online and offline) and showed 87 participation rate in various events hosted by the science museum Members of the group received various benefits such as free admission to exhibitions including family

members and discount on short-term science education programs Outstanding members were awarded with a certificate

Gwangju National Science Museum Aid Association founded in July 2016 started the project to spread science and culture in August 2017 using its donations collected during the first year Five regions (Gangjin Sinan Wando Jindo and Haenam) of Jeollanam-do Province were selected as regions scientifically and culturally neglected because of geographical and financial conditions Students attending 7 schools recommended by the regional offices of education were invited to the science museum Starting in August 2017 a total of 399 students and teachers visited the science museum for two months to experience Permanent Exhibition Hall special exhibitions education programs and science performances
