ma;er will be final.

If a par#cipant, parent, volunteer, etc. has a complaint they shall follow the procedures

in the aforemen#oned paragraph. In the event that a par#cipant’s behavior becomes

disrespecVul (yelling, swearing, throwing items, etc.) the par#cipant will be asked to

the par#cipant may be prohibited from all ac#vi#es at the fair and/or banned from the

OOen we get “ideas” by observa#on of other’s works of art, craOs, recipes, etc. It is

very important to give credit to those individuals or companies who have created

materials, resources, logos, trademarks, photographs, etc. that you may want to

incorporate into a 4-H exhibit for a county fair. In many cases reques#ng permission

can do this.

The next page provides a sample le;er, which you should modify to meet your

par#cular need. This permission is needed when an item made by you is going to be on

public display. GGGGeeeeKKKKnnnngggg ppppeeeerrrrmmmmiiiissssssssiiiioooonnnn ttttoooo uuuusssseeee ssssoooommmmeeeeoooonnnneeee’’’’ssss wwwwoooorrrrkkkk ooooOOOOeeeennnn ttttaaaakkkkeeeessss aaaa lllloooonnnngggg ####mmmmeeee.... AAAAcccctttt

You will want to send two copies of your le;er to the person or company from whom

you are reques#ng permission. They will keep one copy and return the other to you.

You should also send a self-addressed, pre-stamped, envelope to aid in their

convenience to respond to you. RRRReeeemmmmeeeemmmmbbbbeeeerrrr tttthhhheeeeyyyy ddddoooo nnnnooootttt hhhhaaaavvvveeee ttttoooo ggggrrrraaaannnntttt yyyyoooouuuu ppppeeeerrrrmmmmiiiissssssssiiiioooonnnn,,,,

It is important to remember that giving credit to someone else is very important in any

area of your work. In wri;en papers, it may be through the use of footnotes; with

exhibit items, credit and permission are included in the accompanying folders. As you

put your ideas together, be sure to keep a list of where you get your ideas. If it is a

book, magazine, or other printed material, include the name of the publica#on, the

issue, volume, year, and page number from which it was taken. This type of

documenta#on supports your efforts to give credit to the original individual or source.

Remember, when in doubt, ask permission.

Pinterest to Original Source in 3 Easy Steps: 1. Find item/recipe on Pinterest – “Wow, that cheeseburger casserole really looks

good!”. Click on the image.

2. Clicking on the image brings up a page just for the cheeseburger casserole. S#ll on

a Pinterest page – but wait! Scroll the mouse over the casserole picture and a

“Visit number-2-pencil.com” icon pops up below the image. Now we’re geKng

somewhere that’s star#ng to look like an original source. Not Pinterest, but

number-2-pencil.com . (We could live with ci#ng number-2-pencil.com as the

source, but we can do be;er.) Click on either the image of the casserole or on the

“Visit number-2-pencil.com” icon.

3. Voila! A new window pops up on a page from the original website of the

recipe – number-2-pencil.com. Scrolling down even tells us that Melissa at

number-2-pencil.com is the author and there’s even a bu;on to print the recipe

for our recipe book. Now we’ve actually found the original source.
