In thispresentation, Anne will personally explain those checklists to conference attendees. Attendees will each receive a supplementary booklet that explains each checklist requirement, and upon request, Anne will e-mail the checklists to individual attendees. This will enable the attendee to save each checklist to his or her word processor (or bank network) and print as necessary. These colorful and easy-to-use checklists are designed to chronologically lead len-

ders and processors through the various compliance requirements, and bankers who properly use the checklists can virtually eliminate compliance errors. The checklists include guidance on the following compliance requirements:

With the downturn (especially in oil and coal), what is the plan now? What is this ENDOW initiative that the legislature allocated $2.5M towards? Josh will review what the ENDOW initiative is, how the Wyoming Business Council fits into this plan and some potential companies/projects that may be coming to the State. 11:15 – 12:00 noon “Update on Two Multibillion-Dollar Energy Investments in Wyoming” Power Company of Wyoming is developing a wind energy project in Carbon County near Rawlins, with up to 1,000wind turbines. TransWest is developing a direct current electricity transmission line to connect Wyoming renewable energy resources to the Desert Southwest market, where there is a demand for renewable energy. Both companies are part of The Anschutz Corporation, a longtime developer of natural resources in Wyoming and across the Western U.S. Learn more about these companies’ efforts to invest $6 billion in Wyoming and how these energy projects can benefit Wyoming, including helping to diversify the state’s economy. tainty. The uncertain news, involves a big change in math, and how credit scores will be calculated. The big change in math, is creating significant uncertainty in the lending arena. Effective July 1, 2017 a change in how credit scores are calculated is going into effect. During this portion of the presentation participants will get a firsthand understanding of this change and the effect it will have. Specifics include:

As for the great news, it is an excellent time to borrow. During a portion of this presentation ideas will be presented to ex- pand the loan portfolio. From working with customers before they are sitting at a dealer, to innovative loan products that

Finally, a relatively new type of lending will be introduced that not only increases the loan portfolio with quality loans, it grows account relationships. Specific topics during this portion include: Staff Involvement What Must Be Done / Innovative Loan Strategies / A Newer Type Of Lending Called Lifestyle Lending

This portion of the presentation will provide participants with ideas to grow the loan portfolio, and at the same time retain existing business and increase the best type of marketing, positive word of mouth advertising.

8:00 – 12:00 noon “CONSUMER CREDIT – A CONSISTENT AND COMPLETE ANALYSIS PROCESS” Banks play a vital role in the shaping of the local, regional, national and the World Economy. The purpose of banks

rests chiefly on our role as financial intermediaries. Banks drive the flow of investment capital throughout the

marketplace and the chief mechanism of this capital allocation in the economy is through the lending process.

As such, banks are Arbiters of Risk by performing credit analysis to gauge the risk of default among Consumer, Commercial, Other Financial Institutions and Governmental Borrowers. This segment of the Wyoming Bankers Association Conference will focus upon the Consumer Borrower.

Lending is a process that requires discipline adherence to several phases for a financial institution to be successful in lending. Those phases include: Regulation/Application/Investigation/Evaluation/Decision/Documentation/

Administration/Collection. We will explore three of these important phases including the Application, Evaluation and Documentation. APPLICATION—The Application is a legally enforceable document to communicate the financial status of the potential borrower to a financial institution. This document should not be thrown together in an unorganized manner by a consumer seeking financing nor should it be based solely upon the whims of a bank that may require un-necessary or illegal information about the consumer. Rather, the Application is a document that is highly regulated by the regulating authorities. Therefore, it is vital for banks to know the rules to stay within the law while obtaining the required information banks require. This portion of the Conference will cover the following areas regarding the Application:

Purpose of the Consumer Loan Application ● Effective Questions During the Loan Interview Best Practices During the Application Phase ● Regulatory Requirements Governing the Application Process Analyzing the Application for Consistency

EVALUATION—The second step in the Lending Process is the Evaluation phase. This is where the heavy lifting is performed to determine the creditworthiness of the consumer borrower. The principles utilized over the past years are still quite valid today in analyzing the Consumer Borrower. In this phase a determination of the consumer’s Character, Capacity to pay, Collateral to be pledged as a secondary source of repayment and the Condition of the borrower’s earnings continuation will be presented. DOCUMENTATION—The final step in the Lending Process is the Documentation phase. Consumer Loan documenta- tion is the process of preparing loan documents, obtaining signatures, examining the documents for accuracy, and filing/ recording collateral documents with the proper authorities. Proper documentation is essential for the bank to protect its investment and ensure that customers fully understand the loan product they have selected. Failure to properly document loans can leave banks exposed to litigation, losses and costly compliance violation penalties. The five steps in the Documenta- tion Process will be explored including:

Identifying the Consumer Borrower ● Attaching a Security Interest (Collateral) Classifying and Valuing the Collateral ● Perfecting the Security Interest (Collateral) Evidencing the Debt

About The Speakers For over thirty years, Anne Lolley has been simplifying compliance issues for bankers. After earning her law degree from the University of Kansas, she joined the Kansas Bankers Association, where she developed its successful legal department and gave compliance-related seminars. She cur-rently works with Bank Management Services, where she continues to provide webinars to Kansas bankers. Anne frequently provides webinars for Total Training Solutions, and also assists two banks with audit and compliance matters. Anne’s expertise at simplifying the complex and creat-ing user-friendly reference manuals has made her a popular instructor. Josh Keefe graduated from the University of Wyoming with degrees in both Accounting and Finance. He was a community banker for 9 years doing both commercial and consumer banking. He is currently the Economic Development Finance Manager at the Wyoming Business Council, where he helps start and expand businesses through grants and loans, deals with bonds, tax credits, and other financial programs the State has to offer. Josh lives in Cheyenne, has a wife of 9 years, two kids, a business, likes to volunteer in his community, attend UW athletic events, and is cur-rently working on completing his MBA. Kara Choquette, Director of Communications, Power Company of Wyoming LLC and TransWest Express LLC. Choquette joined the companies in 2009 after 11 years of leading various corporate internal and external communications and outreach programs. She previously directed corpo-rate communications for a division of CH2M HILL, a global engineering and construction firm, where she focused on water and wastewater utili-ties and public-private partnerships. Earlier in her career, she was a business reporter and news/copy editor for local and national newspapers, and she then worked in corporate public affairs at high-tech firm Xerox Corporation. She grew up on a family farm/ranch that her parents con-tinue to operate in south-central Nebraska. John Baptista’s experience combines over 35 years in the financial industry, including 30 years in management, and over three decades as a trainer and consultant. His lifetime of customer relations and ‘real world’ experiences, provide a new learning dimension to each of his programs and training seminars. He is an alumnus of the University Of Southern California and the University of San Diego. As the youngest branch man-ager in the history of one of the largest California Banks John recognized early the importance of customer service. From over 2000 employees, he was ranked in the top 10% for providing the best in customer service. His training style is described as, “down to earth”, “refreshing and engaging with a practical approach to teaching”. This style allows individuals to learn skills they can readily put to use. A client writes "John is an excep-tional communicator and facilitator, and was great in keeping the attendees engaged. He not only knows his stuff, but is able to target his message to a variety of levels and personalities simultaneously! Perhaps the informality of his training helps to make it more enjoyable and easier for eve-ryone to stay focused and engaged. He uses great “real world” examples to emphasize key points”. John brings laughter, fun and most of all his ability to get others to learn.” Jamie Buzzerio is a senior risk management consultant at Sageworks and is responsible for working with financial institutions with their ALLL and stress testing processes. Jamie has twenty years of experience in the financial industry, and has served in a VP role for several positions as an impairment manager, credit administration manager and portfolio manager within the state of Florida, where his primary focus was on the ALLL for banks, credit structure and overall credit quality. Before relocating to Florida, Jamie worked for institutions in Rhode Island as a small busi-ness lending manager and SBA Analyst. Jamie received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Rhode Island College. Jeffery W. Johnson started his career with SunTrust Bank in Atlanta as a Management Trainee and progressed to Vice President and Senior Lend-er for SouthTrust Bank (a large Southeastern Regional Bank) and Senior Vice President and Commercial Banking Division Manager for Citizens Trust Bank of Atlanta (Community Bank). Most of his career has been spent in Credit Administration, Lending (Commercial, Consumer and Real Estate), Business Development, Loan Review, Management and Training & Development. He has managed loan portfolios representing a cross section of loan types including: Large Corporate, High Net Worth Individuals, Middle Market Companies, Small Businesses, Real Estate and Non-Profit Organizations and managed several loan officers with portfolio management responsibilities. Mr. Johnson is now a training professional in the banking industry by leading various seminars covering important topics relating to issues in banking. He teaches actively for twenty two state banking associations in the United States, Risk Management Association. (RMA) and individual banks nationwide. He co-authored a training course entitled “Lending to Service and Other Professional Organizations” for RMA in 2001. Mr. Johnson earned a B.A. Degree in Accounting from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA; a MBA in Finance from John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio; Banking Diploma from Prochnow School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Graduate Certificate in Bank Management from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
