2017-2018 Faith Christian School Annual Report Overview This has been quite a year! Time flies when you are having fun, and we had a great time this year. This report was put together to give you a review of what happened last year and a glimpse at what is coming this year. A financial sheet has been included, so you have an idea of where your tuition dollars were spent. If you have any questions about anything after looking over the material, please feel free to ask. Preschool It has been another great year for Preschool at Faith! We have grown from 52 students enrolled to 58 students enrolled in our preschool program this past school year with five K4 classes. Our preschoolers and families have enjoyed the annual Fall Fun Day, Christmas Program, Easter Egg Hunt and Moving-Up Ceremony! They all have especially enjoyed the Bike-A-Thon and the rewards of a successful “Foundations of Faith” fundraiser. We have welcomed three new teachers as some teachers have transitioned out to enter into their next season. Looking forward, we are so excited to have new flooring installed in the remaining two classrooms. Our preschool building will be refreshed inside and out with the help of our awesome families and staff. We are praying for continual improvement throughout our school, the Lord’s favor and guidance as we move into another year at Faith. Elementary The elementary division of Faith Christian School consists of kindergarten - 5th grade students. It is our faculty’s desire that all of our students come to know Jesus as their personal Savior so that they can know who they are in Him and the plan that He has for their lives. Each day we teach Bible stories and lessons in the classroom and have weekly chapel lessons where we sing worship songs, hear Bible lessons, and play games. Chapel services are led by our faculty and children’s pastors. We teach all of our academic lessons from a Biblical worldview using Christian curricula as well as a variety of teaching methods to engage all of our learners. Teachers bring technology into the classroom through interactive whiteboards and tablets. Each week our students have the opportunity to experience art, music, library and physical education. It is our desire that through these special area classes students have the opportunity to demonstrate some of the unique gifts and talents God has given them. In December we celebrated our Savior's birth through the musical presentation “The Really, Really, Really Good News. Our Christmas celebration continued with a “Whoobillation” complete with games, snacks, stories and visit from the Grinch himself. In January, 8 students participated in the SCISA Regional Spelling Bee; two of our students placed in the top two for their divisions and went on to compete at the state level. In March, 8 of our elementary students competed in the SCISA Literary Meet in storytelling and poetry; with one of our students placing 3rd. Our students celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a week of fun activities and dressing up. We challenge our students daily to earn accelerated reader points to receive special incentives. For the 2017-2018 school year our students collectively earned 2792.4 points. In addition to academic and artistic activities, we also offer our students the opportunity to help our school and serve our community. This year our PTF hosted our annual bike- a- thon where students raised money for school improvements. Each of our elementary classes was involved in serving our community in a variety of ways: singing at senior centers, sending cards to our service men and women and those who are hospitalized, and saving and collecting money to buy service type animals to help those in impoverished countries. This year we hope to expand these activities in order to continue to teach our students how important relationships and service are to our community. We concluded our year with an elementary talent show giving our students an opportunity to share their gifts and talents on the stage, a special chapel ceremony and prayer time for our 5th grade students who will be moving up to middle school, and awards chapel honoring our students who achieved academic and character milestones.

Each year we look forward to meeting new families and reconnecting with our returning families. It is our desire that all of our families feel welcome and part of our FAITH family.

Middle School Middle school was full of activity. The students participated in two service projects that included a trip to the Lowcountry Food Bank where we filled apple bags for the hungry, and we also made Christmas Cards for Operation Gratitude. The Jr. Beta Club sponsored a toiletries collection for a homeless shelter for the holidays. The 6th grade class partnered with senior Will Lipka and created an outdoor learning space. Several middle school students ministered at the Dorchester Senior Center, Horizon Nursing Home, and participated in a Dr. Seuss party with senior citizens. Students were offered an introductory French class, a computer class, and clubs, such as photography, cooking, health and fitness, drama and teacher assistant this year. The club program culminated this year with a photography showcase, a food tasting and drama performance. Clubs will expand this year with parent volunteers adding new club options. The middle school will relocate to building one this fall as we are growing and need to add a teacher and create a real middle school atmosphere. We are looking forward to a great year in the middle school and discipling our students to be engaged by Christ and engage the world for Christ.

High School The high school has been very active this year. This was our first year to participate in the Chick-fil-a Leader Academy. Students from 9-12 grade participated in monthly leader training sessions and outreach projects culminating in an event called Hoops for Homeless raising $520 for Dorchester County Community Outreach. All students had the opportunity to serve the community with the Beta Club leading several community service projects and fundraising for several organizations. The 9th and 10th grade classes also served in the community through their Bible class. Our senior class participated in missions by either serving in Bulgaria or here in the area at local organizations. By December of 2017 the high school was able to go 1:1 with Chromebooks for all 9th - 12th grade students to use for classwork and projects that focused on a Biblical worldview. Our freshman and sophomore classes had the opportunity for off campus learning on our spring trip to Washington DC. In April, the Fine Arts department presented the musical The Music Man. The high school choir also participated in a music festival at Dollywood the first weekend in May where they scored the highest rating of superior; Julie Min was also recognized as the most outstanding accompanist of the competition. FCS graduated 15 students in May who were awarded over $275,000 in scholarship money, and eighty-five percent of them will be pursuing a post-secondary education. In the coming year, community service will continue to be stressed. Faith will continue to participate in the Chick-fil-a Leader Academy. We will be adding new elective options for high school students including a Freshman Success Class. This first semester class, required for all 9th grade students, will help make the transition to high school a smooth one setting these students up for a successful high school career. Our 9th - 11th graders will travel to TN/KY for our spring trip while our seniors go on their mission trip to Nicaragua to work with the Doutt family. The students will continue to have opportunities to excel in the arts with a spring musical and excel in athletics. Through these opportunities, we are discipling our students to be engaged by Christ and engage the world for Christ.

Athletics Faith Christian School athletics saw quite a few successes this past season. Most notably, Solomon Brown won state championships in 100 meters and 200 meters events and was given the title of A-AA Track Athlete of the Year by the High School Sports Report. Rachel Morrison placed second in 100 meters and 200 meters events. We also had a relay team win a championship in track and field. We had players participate in the SCISA North-South All-Star games in football, basketball, and volleyball. This coming year, the athletic department has a new athletic director, Steve Guerry, while retaining the assistant athletic director, football coach, girls basketball coaches, and track coach. The immediate goals are to bring stability to the program. Increasing our numbers of participation in our current teams and being able to field teams that we have traditionally had are priority. Another point of emphasis is to raise the visibility of the program in the area. This will be done by constant communication with local media and promotion of our athletes and programs. The football team will be competing with Ridge Christian to form one combined team. This will be a temporary measure to rebuild the football program while providing the team with a safe number of participants. We anticipate competing with just our students in the following season.

PTF The FCS Parent-Teacher Fellowship is a volunteer group of individuals who have come together to provide opportunities for parents to serve and encourage the faculty and to support the ministry of Faith Christian School. This year we were able to fund flooring for two of our preschool classrooms, purchase Spelling City for our elementary teachers, and a new water fountain in the gymnasium as well as bottle fillers in the high school and elementary buildings. We accomplished this through the support of our families with the Bike-A-Thon, and SCRIPS

sales. We also enjoyed hosting a few meals for our faculty and staff, helping Mrs. Turner host a Whobilation Christmas party, organizing a high school funday, providing and setting up refreshments for our preschool “Moving Up” ceremony, decorating for Dr. Seuss Day, putting together a science night, math night, and a scavenger hunt for our kids, and showing our teachers how much they are loved during Teacher Appreciation Week.

The new school year is quickly approaching and we are looking forward to a great one! The PTF is a great way for you to get involved. We will be holding elections for open positions in September. If you are interested you can fill out a ballot form on Meet the Teacher night August 13, 2018. Even if you don’t wish to be an officer on the board we can still use your help with special events, fundraising etc. This year our main fundraiser will be held in the spring. The PTF board would love to have your help! If you would like to get involved, please fill out a volunteer application in the office. We are looking forward to a wonderful year and will be in prayer for all our students, teachers, staff and families to grow in knowledge and faith!

Foundations of Faith Fundraising Campaign We held our second annual Foundations of Faith fundraiser this fall. Through the generosity of Faith friends and family, we were able to raise close to $9,500. This money was used to increase security by adding a key card door and remote opener to the admissions/gym building. Some of this money was used to purchase a class set of Chromebooks for the freshman class; the whole high school is now assigned a Chromebook for their classes. We look forward to keeping tuition affordable by making improvements on facilities and technology using money from our main fundraiser for the school.

Teachers We have the best teachers on the planet! They love your kids and love teaching them. We are always trying to improve what we do and how we do it. In order to do that, our teachers took advantage of several learning opportunities. One of these opportunities was to read either The 5 Love Languages of Children or The 5 Love Languages of Teens by Gary Chapman to help us to be able to reach each student better. As a staff, we read and discussed how to use the information in Schools of FISH! by Philip Strand and others. As a staff, we attended the ACTS Conference and picked up some ideas to improve our teaching and classroom management. To deepen our relationship with God, we read and discussed Rooted: The Hidden Places Where God Develops You by Banning Liebscher. This summer, we are reading the book The Fred Factor by Mark Sanborn to help us bring our best every day. We have adopted a new Bible curriculum that we feel will be more hands-on and stronger in Biblical application. We are looking forward to getting the new year started and seeing everyone in August!
