Seven times now Seattle has served as host to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, the most prestigious team tournament aside from NCAA’s. Up through 2008 the tournament was a 16-team invitational tournament. In 2009, qualifying rounds were added to expand the field to sixty-one with the final sixteen advancing to the final site. Washington hosted most recently in 2013. The Huskies have won at least one match all seven times they’ve hosted, and three times they started the tournament with a significant upset. In 1999, UW’s first year hosting, the Huskies opened with an upset of third-ranked Mississippi State. Two years later, UW upset No. 4 Georgia and later beat No. 8 Florida to earn a tie for fifth-place. In 2006, Washington worked its home court magic once again, victimizing sixth-ranked Virginia. All told, the Huskies are 9-12 in dual matches at National Team Indoors.

The eight conference teams in 2012 were seeded based on regular season conference records. The No. 5-No. 8 seeds and No. 6-No. 7 seeds play in the first round, then the winners face the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in the quarterfinals. The top two seeds have byes through two rounds, and play the win-ners of the quarterfinal matches in the semifinals.
