2016/2017 English Classes – Novels For Sale & College Prep Programs English Class Novels For Sale** Each year, students read novels in their respective English classes. This year, we have changed the timing of this fundraiser and the PFA has included grade level & class specific order forms with these registration materials. Books will be distributed during registration and are only being sold by the PFA during registration. It is a win-win in that it saves your family a trip to the bookstore if you were going to purchase these novels anyway and the PFA gets 20% of the funds raised. Please note: some teachers require specific editions of books. If you are going to purchase novels on your own, visit the English department webpage to find a list of specific ISBN#s. ** Students will be provided the opportunity to borrow these novels from the school; however, novels borrowed from the school may not be written or highlighted in. Mock SAT & ACT Exams Held on a Saturday at OPHS, students have the opportunity to take a full-length proctored Mock SAT and ACT exam to help determine the best College Entrance Exam for them. A professional tutoring company proctors these exams. SAT & ACT Boot Camps These boot camps are two-day programs that are held on the OPHS campus where students have the opportunity to learn, from professionals, the most up to date SAT & ACT test strategies to increase their scores. College Application “Personal Statement” Writing Seminar for Juniors & Seniors “Writing a personal college admissions essay may be the toughest and most-time consuming document to put together.” CollegeView.com. Twice a year, OPHS English Teacher, Kathy Schultheis, conducts a 2-hour writing seminar to help our juniors and seniors get started with their personal statements. She will help you organize your thoughts and show you how to write an effective statement that will get you noticed by the college application readers. This seminar provides guidance to students who are either working on or getting ready to work on their college applications. To take advantage of these programs, please complete the form on page 2 of this document. Pages 3 & 4 must be attached if you are purchasing novels. A portion of the amount you pay for novels, Mock Tests, Boot Camps and the Writing Seminar may be tax deductible and may qualify for Corporate Matching Funds.
