Our academic streams are aligned with the University of Melbourne’s New Generation Undergraduate degrees, to give students an idea of where their future studies might take them.

Students have the opportunity to attend classes on the University of Melbourne campus, study with university lecturers and prepare for tertiary study.

YLP WEEK ONE (26 JUNE – 3 JULY) ARTS For students interested in studying a Bachelor of Arts degree, this stream gives insight into Arts majors such as Psychology, Media and Communications. Students will investigate the psychology behind how we persuade others for our own benefit, and how such techniques can influence our interactions and the decisions we make. Having the opportunity to dissect media industries and their impact on politics, society and culture affords students the opportunity to learn in real-life settings.

Students will visit law courts and partake in workshops where they attempt to fool a lie detector, conduct psychological experiments, and learn about subliminal messaging in advertising.

YLP WEEK ONE (26 JUNE – 3 JULY) COMMERCE Explore the fields of accounting, business, finance, management and marketing.

Be introduced to corporate social responsibility, civil and contract disputes and the developing area of green economics. The course gives students an insight into life in the world of business with interactive workshops and excursions to see business models in action.

YLP WEEK ONE (26 JUNE – 3 JULY) SPORT DEVELOPMENT & MANAGEMENT For students who are interested in the various disciplines that the sports industry has to offer, this stream is the perfect introduction to get the practical advantage.

Students will participate in interactive workshops as well as visit the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and the National Sports Museum to understand the history and marketing that goes into creating large-scale events.

Learning from industry professionals in the areas of exercise science, social change and community development will help students discover first-hand the opportunities that this innovative field has to offer.

YLP WEEK ONE (26 JUNE – 3 JULY) ENGLISH INTENSIVE: DRAMA & COMMUNICATION This drama based program is designed to empower students to creatively and confidently converse and communicate in English.

Move beyond understanding English and learn to manipulate the language for more effective communication in and out of school.

This intensive language program looks at the ‘performance’ of English as a unique tool.

Take part in a series of lively, stimulating and enjoyable drama-based activities, and oral presentation workshops that will enhance and improve communication in English.

YLP WEEK TWO (3 JULY – 10 JULY)

FINE ARTS Interested in a Bachelor of Fine Arts? This is the stream for you! Discover a diverse range of art forms, some traditional, some unique to contemporary Melbourne, including performance & visual art, movement and music, writing and public speaking.

The principle theme of ‘finding your voice’ helps students build confidence, develop personal identity and enhance their leadership in various situations. Gain an understanding of the benefits of private creativity, public expression, and analyse the role of art in our society.

YLP WEEK TWO (3 JULY – 10 JULY)

BIOMEDICINE Explore the fascinating world of medicine and medical research including genetics, human physiology, human structure and function – discover what the Bachelor of Biomedicine is all about.

Students will investigate the issues pertinent to our world today and look at the rapidly changing areas of genetics and bioethics.

Students will perform dissections of an eye and kidney, and visit the renowned Anatomy Museum at the University.

YLP WEEK TWO (3 JULY – 10 JULY)

LEADERSHIP FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE This program develops leadership skills associated with grassroots movements for social justice, such as equality, democracy and transformation in young people.

The week tackles key issues in today’s society including sustainability, global poverty and human rights. With world class leaders in social justice, hands-on excursions, workshops and discussion groups, students will discover how just one person can make a difference.

Take an excursion to Parliament House and participate in a role-play debate to experience life as a political leader. This stream is a great foundation if you’re thinking about stepping in to a leadership role at your school or beyond.

YLP WEEK TWO (3 JULY – 10 JULY)

THE LAW AND JUSTICE - NEW For students interested in a career in any field of law, this is the perfect introduction.

Find out how the law affects our daily lives and how we interact with it. Covering the areas of corporate, civil and criminal law; through dispute resolution and negotiation simulation, juvenile justice and advocacy.

Students will experience first-hand, case studies, meet professionals in the field, and take part in their very own practice moot court where they argue imaginary cases.

Get the competitive advantage in the industry, where knowledge is the key to success.

YLP WEEK THREE (10 JULY – 17 JULY)

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT – FUTURE LEADERS (NEW) Leadership is the keystone of the Young Leaders Programs. This fascinating new stream is for students who want to build leadership skills, currently hold, or are thinking of taking up various leadership positions in their school, sports team or club, drama or debating groups and any other type of extra curricular activity where leadership is essential.

Students will take a challenging and rewarding journey through the week, focusing on understanding and developing personal values, situational leadership and boundaries, effective communication and discover ways to cope with stress in and out of school.

Students will learn tips, tools and tricks to speak confidently in public and be able to set and create structured, manageable and achievable goals. At the end of the week, students will have acquired necessary skills to put practice into action and have meaningful impact in their local community.

YLP WEEK THREE (10 JULY – 17 JULY) ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY – COASTAL DISCOVERY PROGRAM

The concept of sustainable living is at the core of this program, allowing students to explore how we can minimise our impact through changing behavioral patterns to positively influence the natural environment.

For students who would like to learn about sustainability whilst exploring the beauty of the Victorian coastline, this program is a great introduction. Students will travel to Waratah Bay, before heading to Phillip Island to take part in a volunteer project.

With sustainability as the fastest growing aspect of business and education in the 21st century, from commerce to engineering, law and social justice, having an understanding of the natural world will position you as a global leader in your field.

•  24 hour security to ensure student safety

•  Males and females will be on separate dorm floors

•  Each floor is supervised by at least two Mentors

•  On each floor there is a shared bathroom and laundry

•  Trinity College: Twin Dorm (where possible); same gender

•  Waratah Bay: Bunk Rooms of 4-6 students; same gender

Who will pick the students up from the airport? •  Our mentors will meet students at the arrival gates

Do students need spending money? •  Yes, for buying souvenirs and gifts for family and friends

What visa is required? •  Tourist/travel visa. NOT a student visa

What about travel and medical insurance? •  Compulsory for all international students; approx. $10 per week

YLP WEEK TWO (4 – 11 DECEMBER) SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

If you’re thinking about a Bachelor of Science, this stream gives you a taste of engineering majors – chemical and civil systems, electrical systems, mechanical systems, mathematics, statistics and physics.

Take a look at how society is progressing in the world of technology and outer space, and discover the amazing innovations made in astronomy and engineering.

Students will visit the Melbourne Museum, participate in a robotics workshop and make their own solar cells and rockets.

Who knew someone could learn so much in one week, not only academically, but about themselves?

The Young Leaders Program was an absolutely amazing experience that has opened my eyes to the world ... I have learnt vital leadership skills and in the process made some life long friends from all over the globe.

The sports management and development stream is perfect for anyone who is interested in the sports industry. It is an all round incredible experience that I would highly recommend to anyone who is given the opportunity.
