LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENTWelcome Kankakee Community

College student athletes, parents, Cavalier supporters and fans!

There is excitement and energy as we prepare for another year at KCC, and we are so happy to have all of you along for the journey. Each of our men’s and women’s teams had a successful year in 2014-2015, and a few had extraordinary accom-plishments. Cavalier teams and players from last year experienced successful winning seasons, national (NJCAA) rankings and tournament appearances, All-Americans and Ac-ademic All-Americans, a MLB 2015 draft pick, numerous All-Tournament players, a NJCAA Hall of Fame induction, a National Tournament MVP, and our KCC women’s soft-ball team was your NJCAA Division II National Champi-on. It was an amazing year for KCC, our teams, and our players. Even more amazing was watching the continued development, academically and personally, of our student athletes.

The 2015-2016 year also promises to be an exciting one for our teams and our players. I am proud of the role KCC plays in the overall growth of our student athletes, and equally proud of how our Cavalier teams represent our excellent institution. The student athletes of KCC live

our motto to Start Here – Finish Anywhere. It is my firm belief that education is the key to all of our life successes, and I remain com-mitted to our mission to develop leaders. Our athletic program, and each sport, begin with the strong dedication of our complete coach-ing staff and are supported by the KCC Board of Trustees and our community. As parents and educators, we pledge to join your efforts to provide encouragement and support to our student athletes.

I wish our student athletes success both as a student and an athlete at Kankakee Com-munity College. It is an honor to be part of

the Cavalier family, and I would like to thank the parents of our student athletes, each member of the coaching staff, and the members of our Cavalier Club who help to support our athletic teams. Please join the Board of Trust-ees, myself, faculty, staff and all Cavalier fans in wishing each of our teams and coaches a successful season. I challenge everyone to come out and watch our teams play.

Go Cavs!

John Avendano, Ph.D. President

THE FACTS

2016

For 2016, the Cavaliers return five players who are looking to go back-to-back following the 2015 NJCAA Division II National Cham-pionship.

“Five returning players, one transfer and a great group of freshmen should again lead us to anoth-er great year,” said Cavaliers veteran Head Coach Dennis Clark. “I always expect big things from my returning soph-omores, I feel they will lead us, along with the talented freshmen, toward our 21st NJ-CAA Region IV Championship and an opportunity to defend our National Championship.”

“Its great to have our starting infield back,” said Clark. The returning Cavs are led by NJCAA All-American 2B Bailee Porter. Bailee hit .474 with 98 RBI (2nd in nation) in 2015. “Bailee is just a pure hitter, she hits to all fields, I expect her to have another great year,” said Clark. Also returning is NFCA All-American SS Brittany Hay. She hit .503 with 13 home runs and 68 RBI last year. “Brittany is an unbelievable athlete--a great

defensive short stop,” said Clark. Brittany was voted best defensive player at the NJCAA National Tournament in 2015.

The Cavs also return 3B Lindsey Snyder. She hit .433 last year with 15 doubles. Lindsey will also do some catching this spring. Another

returning starter is 1B Kyleigh Payne. Kyleigh hit .395 with 11 home runs in 2015. “Both Lindsey and Kyleigh play good defense at the corners and both have the ability to drive the ball out of the park” said Dennis Clark.

Another returning player is OF Ashley Adermann. She hit .318 last year in a reserve role. “Ashley had a good fall season--I expect her to battle for a starting outfield spot this year,” said Clark.

“This team has a good combi-nation of speed and power throughout the line-up and (we) have a number of players that can play multiple positions,” he said.
