Mark Daigneault Summer League Head Coach

Mark Daigneault (DAYG-nalt) enters his third season as head coach of the Oklahoma City Blue and he is set to make his debut as head coach of the Thunder’s summer league squad. The Blue posted a 19-31 record in 2015-16 and led the NBA D-League in rebounding with 48.1 boards a game. Daigneault joined Billy Donovan’s Thunder coaching staff midseason on Feb. 17 in place of Thunder assistant Maurice Cheeks, who was sidelined for six weeks due to hip surgery. Daigneault remained with the Thunder for the conclusion of the 2015-16 season and entirety of the Thunder’s postseason run to the Western Conference Finals. In his first season at the helm of the Thunder’s NBA D-League team, Daigneault led the Blue to a 28-22 record and an appearance in the NBADL Western Conference Semifinals. Under his watch the past two seasons, the Blue has seen three players called up to NBA rosters (Josh Huestis, Dwight Buycks and Reggie Williams) and four Thunder players assigned (Grant Jerrett, Josh Huestis, Mitch McGary and Cameron Payne). Daigneault came to Oklahoma City after spending his previous four years working under Donovan at the University of Florida, where he most recently held the position of Assistant to the Head Coach. Throughout his four years at Florida, the Gators totaled a record of 120-30 (.800), won three SEC titles and advanced to the Elite Eight each year. In his final season with UF (2013-14), the Gators became the first SEC team to go 18-0 in conference play and went on to win the SEC Championship and advance to the Final Four. Prior to his time at Florida, Daigneault spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Holy Cross. During Daigneault’s tenure, the Crusaders finished as runner-up of the Patriot League Championship in 2008-09. A 2007 graduate of the University of Connecticut, Daigneault served as a student manager with the Huskies under Jim Calhoun from 2003-07. While at UCONN, the Huskies won the 2004 NCAA Championship and claimed three Big East titles, posting a combined record of 103-32 (.763).A native of Leominster, Mass., Daigneault holds a master’s degree in sports management from the University of Florida. Summer Fun: The Oklahoma City Thunder is set to once again return to Central Florida for the 2016 Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League. Oklahoma City’s 2016 summer league squad features Thunder roster players Josh Huestis, Mitch McGary and Cameron Payne, Additionally, the Thunder’s summer league roster includes Semaj Christon, Dakari Johnson, Marcus Lewis, Boubacar Moungoro, Richard Solomon, Reggie Williams, Kameron Woods and Tomislav Zubcic, all of which have previous experience with the Thunder’s development team, the Oklahoma City Blue. Daniel Hamilton, the 56th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, will also compete for Oklahoma City. 2015-16 Quick Recap: The Oklahoma City Thunder enters Orlando Summer League competition just weeks after advancing to the Western Conference Finals for the fourth time in the past six season. After defeating the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs in the opening two rounds of the playoffs, the Thunder took a 3-1 series lead against the Warriors in the Conference Finals, but ultimately, Golden State prevailed after securing a Game 7 victory. The Thunder entered the 2016 playoffs as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference after finishing the regular season with a record of 55-27. Elite Company: Since the start of the 2009-10 season, the Thunder has won five Northwest Division titles, reached the Conference Finals on four occasions and amassed a record of 371-187 (.665). Based on winning percentage, the Oklahoma City Thunder ranks as the second most winning team in the NBA and the fourth most winning team among the four major professional sports (NBA, NFL, MLB & NHL). Playoff Success: After taking the Golden State Warriors to a Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals this past postseason, the Thunder has now won 10 playoff series in the last five seasons. Only the Miami Heat (15) have won more postseason series during this span (San Antonio has also won 10 playoff series). With the Thunder’s opening round series victory over the Mavericks this past postseason, the Thunder advanced to the Conference Semifinals in each of the team’s last five postseason appearances. OKC is currently the only team in the Western Conference to accomplish such a feat. In the last 20 years, the Thunder is one of eight teams to win five straight opening round playoff series. Billy on Board: During his first season at the helm of the Thunder, Billy Donovan became the only first-year NBA head coach in league history to win 55 games after coming directly from the college ranks. Additionally, Donovan became just the third first year head coach in the last 15 years to win 55+ games during his first season (Kerr & Thibodeau). Moreover, Donovan is the sixth first year head coach in the last 20 years to advance to the Conference Finals. On April 30, 2015 Billy Donovan was named the third head coach in Thunder history after enjoying an incredibly successful college coaching career which spanned more than two decades. During the past 19 years as head coach at the University of Florida, Donovan led the Gators to two National Championships and four trips to the Final Four while amassing a record of 467-186 (.715). In his last year at Florida, Donovan became the second youngest coach in NCAA history (Bob Knight) to claim 500 wins. Boards are the Barometer: The Thunder finished the 2015-16 season as the leading rebounding team in the NBA (48.6 rebounds per game). OKC finished the year going 46-16 when outrebounding the opposition. Moreover, the Thunder’s 8.4 rebounding differential represented the fourth largest margin since 1950, when rebounding first became a statistic. There were 44 instances this past season in which OKC outrebounded the opposition by 10 or more. No other team in the NBA history has ever accomplished such a feat. OKC also led the league in offensive rebounding (The Thunder controlled 31.1% of its offensive rebound chances, which is the highest percentage for any Thunder team). Near or at the Top: The Thunder concluded the 2015-16 season ranking among the top of the NBA in several statistical categories. Oklahoma City wrapped-up the year ranking second in the NBA in scoring (110.2 ppg) while ranking third in field goal shooting percentage (.476 FGs). Additionally, OKC led the NBA in rebounding (48.6 rpg) while ranking fourth in blocked shots (5.94 bpg). This past season, the Thunder registered 23.0 assists per game, which represents the highest assist total during the Thunder era. Furthermore, the Thunder posted a 7.6 net rating this past season (represents the second highest during the Thunder era and the ninth best of any team in the last five years). Starting 5: The Thunder’s starting lineup (Westbrook-Roberson-Durant-Ibaka-Adams) was incredibly effective and efficient this past season. The Thunder starters scored 113.3 points per 100 possessions, which actually topped the Warrior’s league-best offense (112.3 points scored per 100 possessions). On the other side of the court, the Thunder starters allowed just 95.6 points per 100 possessions, which was better than the Spurs’ league- best defense (96.5 points allowed per possession). The Thunder starters outscored their opponents by 17.8 points per 100 possessions. To put some perspective on this, the OKC starters outscored opponents by 292 points this season, which is 126 more points than the next best lineup. Division Champs: This past March 20, the Thunder solidified its fifth Northwest Division title in the past six years and by accomplishing the feat, OKC became just the seventh team in NBA history to win five division titles in six seasons. Additionally, the Thunder became just the third team to win five out of seven division titles immediately following a season with 23 or fewer wins. The first two were the St. Louis Hawks from 1953-54 to 1960-61, and the Baltimore/Capital Bullets from 1966-67 to 1973-74. Finally, since the start of the 2008-09 season, the Thunder is one of two teams (San Antonio) to win a division title in five of six seasons. 50 wins: On March 24, the Thunder claimed a 22-point home victory over the Jazz and in the process, OKC recorded the team’s 50th win of the season. Oklahoma City has now finished with a winning percentage of .610 (equivalent to 50 wins) six times dating back to the 2009-10 season. Only the San Antonio Spurs (seven seasons with .610 winning percentage), have reached that benchmark more during this period. Offensive Efficiency: This past season, the Thunder registered a 113.2 offensive rating, the highest during the Thunder era. This represents the second highest offensive rating in the past five years (only the 2015-16 Warriors were better at 114.6). This was in part due to the team’s ability to generate more efficient shots. OKC generated 8.3% of its shots from the corner 3 (the most ever in the Thunder era and the 5th most in the NBA this season). Home Cooking: Since arriving in Oklahoma City in 2008, the Thunder has always taken pride in defending its home court. Oklahoma City finished the 2015-16 season with a home record of 32-9 (tied for 4th best home record in the NBA). Included in that, OKC went an impressive 23-3 at Chesapeake Energy Arena this year when facing Western Conference opponents. Dating back to the start of the 2009-10 season, OKC has gone 212-67 (.760) at home (2nd best home record in the NBA during this span). OKC is Fan Friendly: The Thunder once again played in front of a packed-house during the entire 2015-16 season as fans continued to fill Chesapeake Energy Arena. After registering sellouts during all 41 home games in each of the five previous seasons, the Thunder has recorded sellouts in 212 consecutive regular season home outings and 256 games overall when including the postseason (as of start of 2016 playoffs).

Best Records Since 2009-10 season (NBA, NFL, MLB & NHL)

New England Patriots .753 (85-27)

San Antonio Spurs .721 (401-155)

Green Bay Packers .692 (77-34-1)
