Teaching Peabody College EDUC 1690: (Spring, 2014)
Explores contemporary horror fiction which has its literary roots in Gothic Literature and contains many of the same elements that made Gothic literature popular; it is designed to induce dread or fear, it includes elements of the supernatural, and a “mystery” to be solved. Young adult horror fiction provides an avenue for questioning representation of gender and sexual identity as this genre of literature frequently pushes against restrictive expectations of masculinity, femininity, and sexuality. Monsters such as vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and zombies can be viewed as cultural outsiders and this course focuses on engaging with the idea of the “other” and the cultural representations in literature and media.
EDUC 2310: Teaching in Secondary Schools (Fall, 2008)
Explores the general skills and principles of teaching and learning in secondary schools, including curriculum organization and patterns, teaching methods, and professionalism. The course provides an overview of research-‐based managerial, organization, and instructional strategies for secondary teachers. It also emphasizes understanding youth, the culture of middle and high schools and determining how to establish an effective classroom culture through planning, implementing, and maintaining effective classroom strategies.

Program Development Coordinator, English Education In 2008, I became Coordinator for the English Education program. In this role, I helped redesign the English Education program to include digital and multimodal literacy practices. This redesign is in response to current changes in literacy practices, new media, and culture that have a direct impact on adolescent literacy learning and is explicitly designed to address the changing literacy learning conditions for adolescents. I maintain the instructional integrity of the courses and sequencing. I am currently developing a web site for our program. The web site will launch in 2012. Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) In addition to the work that I do at Peabody for the TPA, I am also scorer and a scorer-‐trainer for the TPA. I have trained faculty, graduate students, and teachers to score the assessment. I have also created and shared instructional materials for the TPA with faculty on both the state and national level. I participated in the 2012 edTPA Benchmarking Conference in San Antonio and am working on creating training and resource materials for faculty and scorer training. National Service
