    Around Hicksville

BobbyThis is Jerry Gardner class of 66. Would you send out a mass mailing

on my behalf and maybe a note in the newsletter? With all my cross country moves I've lost my high

school yearbook. It would mean a great deal to me. I'll pay including postage. By any chance can it befound on line? I realize this is an usual request and I hope you can help. Kind regardsJerry

    Gardner 1966

Thank you very much for the card. I enjoy the newsletter very much...especially the old pictures of

Hicksville. I am a 1983 graduate and grew up 1 block behind Bethpage Road (and could see Sears fro

my bedroom window and the Mid Island Bowl) and would love to see more pictures of the north side

    Today, January 13th

, 2016 would have been my father's 97th birthday. He was a good father, a good

    husband and a good man

In this photo, please note the books next to him. He Loved to read. He had a beautiful singing voice, a

he sang a lot. He also whistled...whole songs, in key. One of my earliest memories was of him carryin

me up Ryerson street where we lived. It was a cold night, and the bare limbs of the trees cast eerie

shadows. Frightened, I tucked my head into his shoulder. He whispered in my ear, "Look, the moon."

looked up and saw the full moon beaming in the sky, making the silica in the brownstone houses

shimmer. I have been watching the moon and the night sky ever since. Thank you, Daddy. For

    everything. I love youFran Tallarico1959

Hi BobHappy New Year! I enjoyed viewing the latest Newslett

& when I saw the St. Ignatius class picture I did some quick math & realized it was my husband's cla

picture, too. I printed out a copy of the picture & I numbered the children. Then, I put #'s 1-59 on a

yellow pad and gave it to my husband to write down, to the best of his ability, the names of the kids th

he could remember. I'm a detective at heart and Rich (#14) is used to me coming up with puzzles likethis to unravel. During the day as he remembered certain kids he regaled me with funny stories of his

youth with his pals. That Mickey Madden (#28) & his dad were a RIOT!! Anyway, and this is curiou

Rich remembered #56 as maybeRita Love, and the name Elaine Grecz (#56) did not spark a memory

The woman who submitted the photo identified herself as Elaine, though. Oh well ...I hope this is use

and again, Happy New Year! Ginnie Becht Moore, Class of 1971PS - I went to Our Lady

    Mercy in Hicksville.

...in 1903, Guglielmo Marconi, the Italian inventor of

wireless telegraphy, arrived on Cape Cod hoping to make history. The night was cold but perfectly

clear, and the first trans-Atlantic radio transmission, a message from President Theodore Roosevelt to

King Edward VII, was carried directly from Wellfleet to England. The lifesaving value of this new

technology was first evident on January 23, 1909, when the ocean liner Republiccollided with anothe

the call and alerted other ships in the area. Almost all the passengers were rescued, and Marconibecame a popular hero. He won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1909.
