TERMINOLOGYFR Flame Resistant refers to the ability of a garment to self-extinguish after being exposed to an

ignition source.

HRC The Hazard Risk Category rating relates to level of arc flash clothing protection required for specific position and correlates to the ATPV value of the garment. There are four HRC levels. A higher value provides greater protection.

ATPV The Arc Thermal Performance Value refers to the level of incident energy in calories per centimeter squared that a garment can withstand before allowing a second-degree burn to the wearer. A higher value provides greater protection.

UL Underwriters Laboratories is an organization that certifies garments to meet the protection standards required for a specific position.

NFPA® The National Fire Protection Association is an international nonprofit organization that develops and publishes codes and standards to help minimize fire, electric, and other work related hazards.

NFPA® 2112 A specific set of guidelines for flame resistant garments as it relates to protection from flash fires. Garments are tested and certified to meet or exceed NFPA® 2112 standards by UL.

NFPA® 70E A specific set of guidelines for flame resistant garments as it relates to protection from arc flash fires. Garments are tested and certified to meet or exceed NFPA® 70E standards by UL.

Dual-HazardDual-Hazard refers to a single garment providing both arc protection and flame resistance. To be considered Dual-Hazard, a garment must have an ATPV rating over 8 cal/cm² meeting NFPA® 70E with an HRC-2 level or higher in addition to meeting the flash fire requirements of NFPA® 2112.
