WELCOMEFROM YOUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
@DECAPaw
This year was such a success – Leadership Passport participation was up, social media impressions broke records, membership grew, more businesses and colleges continued to join our National Advisory Board, and attendance was up at conferences! It was, in a word, truly epic!
We challenged you to continue your success and Be Epic; once again you took Collegiate DECA to new heights. Membership continued to grow, participation at the Collegiate Leadership Academy (CLA) broke a record, and #beDECAepic trended throughout the year.
We are excited to welcome nearly 1,500 epic DECA members here to the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., for Collegiate DECA’s 55th International Career Development Conference. Washington is the perfect location for our conference because it values hospitality, entrepreneurship, finance and marketing as much as DECA does. Like DECA’s own growth over the past years, Washington continues to grow as one of the premiere destination cities in the world. There is so much to do, and most of it is free and within walking distance or a quick cab ride.
The DECA staff works hard to continually improve our programs and opportunities for all DECA Members. This year Collegiate DECA launched its first Virtual Business Challenge, focused on Hotel Management, as well as the new Stock Market Game, making competition available to all students as part of their membership. DECA’s partnership with Disney also expanded by connecting students to Disney Professional Internships.
DECA adjusts its competitions to be sure students are using the current terminology and formats in business. You saw changes in the entrepreneurship events with the LEAN business model canvas. If our advisors feel something is getting dated, we revise, just as you did with your projects. DECA strives to be at the forefront of industry trends as we wish to continue to provide our members real-world opportunities and authentic assessment.
Powerful people make important decisions in this city every day – you can, too, by making the decision to get the most out of your conference.
Learn as much as you can at the professional development academy sessions; network all you can; work hard for your competition. You can say it all started in Washington at the 55th annual Collegiate DECA ICDC! Congratulations on your path to get here and good luck!
