     April2016Knits That Breathe author, Julie Turjoman will be teaching:

    Air ConditionedKnitted Garments

     You’ll learn how to takea plain knitted tunic pattern(which Julie will provide toclass students) and maximize

    it for comfort by using lace,open work, drape, andinsertion panels.

    Key to Julie’s approach towarm weather comfort is embracing the specialproperties of plant bers and

    understanding how thesebers will behave once the

    garment is o the needles.

     Although there will be some inclass knitting, this class willbe more about seeing the manypossibilities for air-conditioning

    knitwear. These possibilities willbe captured for you in a veryextensive class handout.

    She’ll be bringing along a

    trunk show of pieces fromKnits That Breathe.

    Don’t miss this chance to learn

    engaging teacher and designer.

    You’ll work 3 pieces to create yourthree dimensional ower: the outer

    petals, the rose center, and the leafTraditionally this type of crochetwould have been worked in veryne cotton or linen. Your learning

    piece can be worked in a smoothsport weight cotton or wool. Laurawill provide a pin back or hair clipso that you can wear your classcreation. Students must be verycomfortable working chain, single,double and half-double crochet.

    Laura lives close by in Indiana.She’s had many articles publishedin PieceWork  and Knitting Tradition

    magazines and loves to help peopllearn from, and be inspired by ourknit and crochet cultural heritage.

    Crochet Hankie

    BJ’s original hankie edgingdesigns are perfect for inter-mediate level crocheters look-ing for a challenge. You’ll workwith a size 1.00 mm hook andsize 20 cordonet cotton threadto embellish the edge of a cot-ton hankie blank. First-timers tohankie class will work a simplifieddesign, providing a gentle intro-duction to the art of hankie mak-ing. Experienced hankie makerswill work the Five-Leaf HemicycleEdging Handkerchief and enjoy

    the challenge of working buillionsand cluster stitches.

    EntrelacEntrelac is one of the greattricks of the knitting world. Isit woven? Does it involve a lot

    of sewing? None of the above.You'll work with self-stripingyarn, creating the illusion thateach small section is made froma separate yarn source, when infact you'll be working with onecontinuous strand. It's also agreat opportunity to try the optionof “knitting back backwards”so that you can work with theright side of the piece facing youat all times. Choose the wide

    shawl version or a narrower scarfversion and nish with an elegant

    Horseshoe LaceTopHorsehoe Lace is a traditionalShetland lace pattern. The secretbehind many traditional patterns

    is that they really are very easy.You'll learn to love this simplelace pattern while knitting thefront and back panels. After youare comfortable with the lace,we'll make the A-line side panelsby adding extra stitches betweenlace repeats and graduallydecreasing those extra stitches.This piece will give you practice inbasic lace knitting and mattressstitch seaming.

    knitting. We'll begin the scarf byfollowing row by row directions.Then, when you are comfortablewith the basic pattern, Debbiewill give you the opportunity toknit the Irish way. Debbie hasstudied extensively with RosaleenHegarty, who manages a groupof production knitters in Ireland.This method teaches you to seethe ow of your stitches freeing
