Signs For Lost PetsAnyone who has ever had a pet, as
a member of his or her household, knows it would be devastating if it were lost.
The knee jerk reaction is to do everything possible to insure its safe return. Recently, there have been a lot of fliers placed on stop signs and light poles throughout the community asking for help for the return of their dog or cat. This has become a real problem. There have even been as many as two or three fliers attached to the same post.
The fliers become rain-soaked, wind blown and unreadable and make the whole community look unkempt. Furthermore, the people who put
up these fliers hardly ever remove them, leaving their removal up to other residents and the Management Company.
Signs of any kind, on our common areas are against our Deed Restrictions. This includes realtors’ Open House signs and political signs. Any signs that show up on our common areas are regularly removed.
Up until now, we have been lenient when it concerns a lost pet, but we can’t leave these signs up for an extended amount of time.
A much better option would be to place lost pet notices on the Greatwood Facebook page. You can also place
them on the HOA web site by sending the information to Nikkole Luna at the Greatwood Office ([email protected]). The HOA web page has the capability of sending email blasts to anyone who signs up. Go to: www.mygreatwood.com and sign up for this service.

Get ready, make plans to attend this year’s Spring Fling. We will hold Spring Fling on Saturday, April
12, 2014 from 11am - 4pm. All the festivities will be held at Rec Center #1. We have a great event planned for all our Greatwood residents. If you are interested in having a booth, please contact Julee Gracey at [email protected] or Cynthia Rendon at [email protected] for more information. We are always looking to add booths to our event. Look for more information on Spring Fling in the April newsletter and on the Greatwood website.
Have you wondered how your Board of Directors arrives at the amount of your annual assessment? Each year
the Board of Directors must set a budget and approve it for the following year. The Board takes in to consideration the expenses spent the prior year. As we all know, there is always inflation. To simplify the process; we thought a breakdown of your annual assessment would help:
The 2014 annual assessment is $725.00, this includes the following:
If you add these totals per property, it amounts to approximately $760.00 which is $35.00 less than what you are paying.

Welcome Back Greatwood Gators! It’s going to be another great summer of swimming and fun with your fellow team mates with
a small twist! Your Gator Board has been hard at work preparing for another season of excellence in the water. Over the off-season, the
Houston Aquatics League (WHALe.) This change in leagues will provide a great number of changes and challenges and we are very excited about our new league!
The Greatwood Gators’ goal is to provide a structured and safe learning environment through fun and exercise in a competitive spirit while promoting a positive role in the community. Our team focuses on good sportsmanship with an emphasis on improving individual strokes and times and we are very proud of the sense of community within our team.
Registration: If you are interested in registering your swimmer, please visit our web site at www.GreatwoodGators.org. Inquiries can be emailed to the team registrar, Maryellen Greene at [email protected]. The West Houston Aquatics League has no cap for swimmers on a team but new swimmer registrations will be added to the team based on age and gender group needs. So if you are interested, register now!
Minimum Requirements: All swimmers MUST meet the following requirements to swim on the team.
the bottom of the pool or on the lane ropes
or coach in the water
Practice: Practices will begin at the end of April and will be held after school Monday through Friday until school is out. At which time practices will be held in the morning. The date for the practice meet has been tentatively set for Monday, May 26th.
Meets: Dual meets have been tentatively scheduled for May 30th, June 5th, June 9th, June 14th, and June 21st. The Meet of Champs are scheduled for June 27th and June 28th. The All Stars Meet is scheduled for June 30th. The schedule is subject to change.
Sponsorships: The Gators are looking for sponsors for our wonderful team of swimmers. If you, or anyone you know would like to get in on the action and sponsor the Gators this season, please contact Kim Keast at [email protected].
Thank you to the Greatwood community for your continued participation and support of the Greatwood Gators Swim Team. For more information about the Greatwood Gators, please visit our web site at www.GreatwoodGators.org.

Greatwood Geysers Set Their SightsOn Another Great Season!
Swimmers take your mark…! The Greatwood Geysers swim team is preparing for another summer of swimming and
excitement! In our 12th year as part of the Southwest Houston Recreational Swim League (SHRSL), the Geysers continue to emphasize good sportsmanship, team pride and competition with an emphasis on having fun along the way.
Coach Derek and his crew will be back to lead the Geysers to another fun filled season. Practices begin the first week of May and are held after school Monday through Friday until school is out. Summer practices are also held in the afternoons but times will change slightly. Swim meets will be on Mondays starting on June 9th through July 14th. The dates for championship meets will be announced soon. This schedule is subject to change.
Registration for Returning Swimmers: All returning swimmers should have received an email in February about pre-registration. The deadline for returning swimmers to re-register is March 14th. If you swam with the Geysers during the 2013 season and have not received registration information, please contact team registrar, Terri Edwards at [email protected].
Open enrollment for new swimmers*: New swimmer registration will be Sunday, April 6th. Please go to www.greatwoodgeysers.org for updates and more information and registration documents including medical release forms. The SHRSL limits teams to 200 swimmers total, so new swimmer registrations are added based on space availability based on age and gender.
*Note: Membership is open to all swimmers through 18 years of age. Although there will be no try-outs for returning swimmers, siblings and new swimmers are required to demonstrate the ability to swim the length of the pool with little or no assistance (per SHRSL rules, www.shrsl.org). Tryouts are tentatively scheduled for May 1st and 2nd.
$125 for the first swimmer and $100 for each additional family member.
The Geysers are looking for businesses to sponsor this terrific team of swimmers! If you or anyone you know would like to sponsor this group of swimmers, please contact Charlie DeVega at [email protected]. Family and parking spot sponsorships will also be available. We hope you will consider supporting our team!
Contact Geyser President, Marvin Hogan at 832-703-8709 or [email protected] or check our website regularly for updates at www.greatwoodgeysers.org.
Thank you to the Greatwood community for your continued support and participation with the Greatwood Geysers Swim Team. We are looking forward to an awesome 2014 swim season! Go Geysers!

Apparently there have been a lot of “critters” that have come out with the warm weather. This is a reprint of an article that was in last July’s newsletter. Hopefully this will be helpful to our residents who are having problems.
Greatwood is a heavily wooded community, backing up to the Brazos River and Rabbs Bayou. It’s not surprising that we
have critters, of all sorts, sharing our yards and common areas. Occasionally, they become a nuisance, digging up plants, walking on our roofs, gnawing on fascia boards and, in the case of skunks, being carriers of rabies to say nothing of the smell. If you find that you have chronic issues with the wildlife there are methods you can try to help resolve the problem.
1. Don’t leave garbage out overnight in plastic bags.2. Make sure you don’t leave dog or cat food outside.3. Do not feed feral cats. These become a real problem.
If you still have problems the only solution, that we’ve found that works, is trapping the animal. You can call Animal Control and they will let you borrow a trap for a refundable deposit or you can buy your own. We got ours at one of the big Home Improvement stores off 59. They’re about $50.00 We’ve caught three skunks, three possums and a raccoon the last couple of months. Animal control will come out and take them out of your trap. They will kill the skunks before removing them, as they are a big carrier of rabies. The other animals they take and release. They will also take the feral cats that you trap. Don’t set your traps over the weekend. Animal Control won’t come out. Set them on Sunday evening through Thursday evening. They come out Monday - Friday. They come pretty quickly. Within an hour or two.
Here’s the contact number. They’re opened from 8:00 am-5:00pm

You can help the school earn money and recycle at the same time. In the parking lot at the back of the school, there are two green and yellow paper recycling receptacles. The school earns money based on how much paper is recycled. Instead of recycling your paper at the curb, make a weekly trip (or whatev-er fits your schedule) to the school and recycle there. You can recycle newspaper, junk mail, school pa-perwork and even bags of shredded documents. One suggestion is to have a box in your home office or garage just for this purpose. Then grab the box when you’re doing errands and make a stop at the school on the way. This is an easy way to help the school and our planet!
Also, please have your children bring to school empty glue sticks
calculators, and iPads/tablets/eReaders. All your efforts will help us earn money for our school!

It’s that time of year, when the weather gets nicer, and we can spend more time outside. Of course, playing or watching baseball.
Why do they call it America’s pastime? It’s been around for years,
Major League game. It’s a beautiful sight to see a homerun as it soars out of the park, and no one could do it better than the “Babe”. There have been many talented baseball players, but back in the day, Babe Ruth was a legend, who played larger than
baseball fans.
Why baseball? In 2000, I just so happened to be in New York when the Yankees and the Mets were playing in the World Series...
Thank you for letting us be a part of your neighborhood.
