Code of Conduct FBLA has an excellent reputation. Your conduct at every FBLA function should make a positive contribution to extending that reputation. Listed here are rules of conduct for the State Leadership Conference. Professional behavior is expected at all times. All Advisors are responsible for the supervision of all delegate conduct. All participants will be expected to: 1. Behave in a courteous and respectful manner (especially at the elevators),

refraining from language and actions that might bring discredit upon themselves, their school, other delegates, Advisors, or upon FBLA.

2. Obey all local, state, and federal laws. 3. Avoid conduct not conducive to an educational conference. Such conduct

includes, but is not limited to, actions disrupting the business-like atmosphere, association with non-conference individuals, or activities that endanger self or others (i.e. running in the hallways or conference sessions, standing on chairs, using laser pointers during workshops, bodysurfing, throwing items from balconies and windows).

4. Keep your Advisors informed of your activities and whereabouts at all times. Accidents, injuries and illnesses must be reported to the chapter or state Advisors immediately.

5. Observe the curfews as listed in the conference program. The hotel has quiet hours beginning at 9:00 pm. Chapter and State staff, as well as security personnel, will enforce curfews. Curfew is defined as quietly being in your own assigned room by the designated hour.

6. Act as guests of the hotel and all conference facilities. Participants must obey the rules of these facilities. The facilities have the right to ask a delegate or delegates to leave. Remember, there are other guests in the hotel that have rights as well. Trash (this includes pizza boxes, bottles, cans, etc.) must be placed in the proper receptacles and not left on guest room or meeting room floors. Individuals or chapters responsible for damages to any property or furnishings will be responsible for charges for repair or replacement.

Disregarding or Violating the Code of Conduct Participants who disregard or violate this code will be subject to disciplinary action, including, but not limited to disqualification from competitive events, forfeiture of privileges to attend further events, confinement to your hotel room, and dismissal from the conference and being sent home at your own expense. Parents and/or guardians will be notified and FBLA reserves the right to notify school administrators and law enforcement.

Don't make plans, make options.

Patrick Perez. Patrick is a combination of Latino pride, American drive, rhythm and caffeine. He has performed to over 300,000 people across the USA, Canada, Mexico and Germany. He has even danced in a mall food court much to the embarrassment of his friend. In 2012 his programs were named “Best Practice’ by the Louisiana

Air National Guard Family and Youth programs. Both his books ‘Mad Skills for Student Success’ and ‘Bully Breakthrough’ have been assets to teens across the country. He is currently working on a third book entitled ‘From Me to We’ in collaboration with Dr. Raphael Travis from Texas State University. When not traveling Patrick is busy rock wall climbi8ng, checking out hole-in-the-wall restaurants, kayaking, driving his friends crazy

with board games, dancing it up in Salsa clubs and trying to get married so his mom will quit harassing him!

Friday’s Workshops 8:00 am – Regency Ballroom East 1 – “Young But No Fool.” Knowing Your Own Rights and Avoiding Legal Trouble at Work - Elizabeth Pratt - Contrary to common myth, the fact that Texas is an “at will” employment state, does not mean that anything goes at work! This interactive workshop briefly reviews the principle laws that govern Texas workplaces and focuses on the key laws younger employees need to know to keep themselves out of trouble. The workshop will educate participants concerning their own legal rights, so they will have a better understanding of when an employer may be treating them in an illegal manner. Know your rights – and those of your fellow employees!

Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.

Nido Qubein, President, High Point University

Yes, you can be a dreamer and a doer, too, if you will remove one word from your vocabulary:

IMPOSSIBLE R. Robert Schuller

TX FBLA SLC 2017 – Page 17

If you placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in an on-line test only event, you are eligible to represent your chapter and Texas in the Awards Program at the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim in June. If you placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in a presentation event, you are also eligible to compete on the national level. If a higher-placed winner cannot attend, subsequent winners (through 5th place) will be offered the opportunity to compete instead until our Texas slate of competitors is filled. Advisors from chapters with an eligible NLC competitor should download all materials and monitor our state and national websites (fblatx.org and fbla-pbl.org) for information on deadlines and entry procedures. Follow the NAP guidelines for national competition. See YOU in Anaheim this summer!

IMPORTANT! April 11 (Monday) – Deadline date to notify the State Office if you WILL or WILL NOT attend the NLC and compete. Please respond as soon as you know one way or the other so that other potential competitors will have time to make a decision.
