Dear Chess for Success supporters,
In 2016-2017 Chess for Success had a year of growth and expansion. The organization’s reach now extends south to Grants Pass and east to Hermiston, including a high school there. Locally, Chess for Success now has a partnership with Latino Network and a club at the Rockwood Community Center. A school new to the program this year is Serendipity Center, a therapeutic school for students who need more assistance than a traditional classroom setting provides. The reach of this organization continues to grow and diversify.
In addition, over 450 students came to participate in the 50th Anniversary Oregon State Chess Tournament at the Oregon Convention Center. More than half of the teams in the K-5 tournament were Chess for Success clubs. Our clubs have never been so well represented.
We are grateful for the support of our program from corporations, foundations, and individuals. All over the state, chess is part of students’ lives, thanks to the generous contributions of our donors.
Chess for Success is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. We look forward to many exciting things to come this year.
Thank you for your generosity,
Julie YoungExecutive Director
P.S. I hope you enjoy the chess club t-shirt designs on the cover and below. The t-shirts are student-designed, and every child in the program recieves a free t-shirt.
