Message from the President and Executive DirectorFamily Counselling and Support Services for Guelph-Wellington (FCSSGW) is proudly celebrating its 30th Annual General Meeting! Volunteers and staff are thrilled with this year’s accomplishments and know there are many more coming—all while keeping Guelph-Wellington residents as our top priority.

Sandra Ellis President

Joanne Young Evans Executive director

As executive director, I want to share some of the many achievements of, and accolades received by, FCSSGW in 2016-2017:

• Winning the Best Community Support Services Centre for South West Ontario;

• Achieving Living Wage Champion status; • Winning the Elizabeth Manson Award for

Clinical Excellence from Toronto SickKids Hospital by one staff member;

• Receiving the Attorney General’s Victim Services Award of Distinction for 2016;

• Speaking at two national conferences in Ontario and Nova Scotia;

• Piloting two new programs:

• expanding the Breaking Free program to include both male and female students;

• collaborating with the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington in a Targeted Walk-In Service (TWIS);

• Partnering with the Mount Forest Family Health Team to provide mental health therapists;

• Expanding hours of operation to include a fourth weeknight and Saturdays;

• Opening a satellite office in Fergus; • Expanding the Intern program; • Securing an increasing number of private

donations; • Growing partnerships across the county…and

the list goes on.This has been a tremendous year as new connections and opportunities have been forged and valued partnerships expanded.

The Board of Directors’ membership has changed this year as two members finished successive terms and, in accordance with the agency’s bylaws, completed their service. Their dedication, passion, and knowledge will certainly be missed. Relocation from the Guelph-Wellington area by other members also resulted in changes to the board membership; however, the board is pleased to welcome new members and will surely benefit from their expertise and enthusiasm. (See page 8.)

The board bylaws and policies were reviewed during the year and necessary updates were included, with final revisions being made over the next few months. Much deliberation occurred throughout the year as the board investigated new office space to accommodate growing programs and services and the needs of clients and staff.

The Board of Directors would like to recognize the zeal and diligence of our executive director (ED) and the leadership team. We are also proud to acknowledge the ED for being one of the Guelph YMCA-YWCA 2017 Women of Distinction Award honourees. Regular reports provided to the board regarding the collaborative work within the community and the wide variety of high quality programs and services have been extremely helpful to inform agency governance.

Several special events and announcements occurred over the course of the year in which board members had the honour in participating, including a presentation to the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network (WWLHIN), the opening of the Fergus office, an award ceremony at the Provincial Legislature, anniversary celebrations, and funding announcements.

The board would like to sincerely thank everyone at FCSSGW for their hard work, passion, and commitment to the Guelph-Wellington community.
